Bump for my rearfacing 5 year old

Scarlett...it takes some using and it gets easier. I don't actually loosen them though.
deleted-user·
I didn't even know they made car seats for kids that old
deleted-user·
I find the straps impossible to tighten while rear facing! Any tips? I avoid driving my Durango bc I don't want to fight with this seat!!!
deleted-user·
Respect- does this kid look 25 to you? Do you ever have something good and not overly exaggerated to say?
deleted-user·
@respect, I never said you aren't a good parent. I'm sure you are. I also never said that keeping kids rf longer determines whether or not you're a good parent. I said that she's doing everything she can to keep her kids safe. Which is good parenting. Just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it excessive.
deleted-user·
I think this is awesome! If everyone rear faced their children as long as they can then kids would be sooo much safer! I'd rather be "excessive" then have my child get seriously injured or possibly die in a car accident and wonder whether they could have lived if I had kept them rear facing!
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
She's clearly miserable ?????? lol
deleted-user·
It's not excessive. Most seats are made to rear face until 40 pounds now. That's because it's recommended. My son will rf as long as the seat allows, he's 14 months and 22 pounds so that could be a while. Doing everything you can to keep your kids safe is far from excessive, it's good parenting.
deleted-user·
Wow, I actually think this is amazing. I definitely need some info to back up extended rf.... Dd is only a couple weeks old but I better get started now! Lol I want her rf as long as possible. I don't understand why so many people find it weird. Your kids are safe and that's how it should be.
deleted-user·
Wow....my one year old is 40 inches and 40 pounds. I never realized how big he is. We have the radian rxt, so he's good for a little while longer.
deleted-user·
I have the keyfit now and live it. I emailed chicco USA and asked but received no response.
My 6 month old is only 12lbs so I can wait it out for awhile!
deleted-user·
Cute smile :)
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
I don't silly. They haven't released a Canada release date or if they will even go to Canada. The KeyFit is there so if I had to GUESS I would say that it's coming. I just don't know when. It requires additional testing to meet your standards.
deleted-user·
Squishy- so you know when this seat will be available in Canada?
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Bump for people wanting see an older child RFing
deleted-user·
OMG your so lucky. My 2 year old is 34 ibs.
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
I honestly don't know Sarah. I've only installed it with latch.
deleted-user·
How is seatbelt install? I need a second seat and like this seat but I won't be able to install with latch.
deleted-user·
A 5 yr old that weighs 30 pounds jeez my 18 month old weighs 32 pounds and he kills my back. He sits forward facing because his legs would definetly be crunched if he sat rear facing.
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Willow...the headrest is reinforced so they can go taller then the actual shell because the headrest goes up farther then the actual shell edge.
deleted-user·
An it boosters until 120 lbs.
deleted-user·
Britax has shorter shells, the tallest shell on the market in us is graco size for me / mysize collection, then the radian and this one, the foonf too. My size is tallest but has the lowest weigh range and the radian harnesses until 80lbs
deleted-user·
Laughingwillow we have the radian and love it, the thing with the straps is that it's a ratcheting tighten. So you do a lot of tiny pulls. Not one big one. I actually find it easier.
deleted-user·
So they can be taller than the shell of this seat? My 2.5 year old is getting close to the 1 inch under the shell limit of her Britax Marathon. I've also been thinking about a Diono Radian. I've heard both it and the Nextfit have trouble with harness tightening though, so I'm not sure.
deleted-user·
I also middle position it. I worry a lot with the air bags.
deleted-user·
Cute car seat. But I LOVE my Graco My Size 70. It's cute looking and has so many amazing features.
deleted-user·
I think people think because they are against the back of the seat they can break easier, which isn't true. Forward facing the second most common injury is broken legs.
deleted-user·
Whys everyone so worried about her legs? Kids can and do cross their legs. Front facing is worse on the legs than rear facing. Cramped legs is better than a broken neck or a dead child.
deleted-user·
I LOVE this!
deleted-user·
Looks like a safe comfortable 5 yr old :)
My kids are average, so I'm sure dd will get to 4-5 in the radian
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
And yes I have IG...squishymommy
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Erica there is a fantastic study on the BMJ about rearfacing until 4. Also NHTSA, Safekids even the AAP recommend until the limit of the seat.
deleted-user·
For being 5 that's awesome, yeah I want to see the picture for sure, do you have an ig? If I ever have another baby this will be the seat because most seats are from 5lbs but you can't safely put a 5 lb baby in a convertible typically
deleted-user·
Didn't read through all the comments but just wondering where you get your RFing stats from? Hubs has wanted to turn DS forward since he was 1. He will be 2 in July and I'm not ready to ff...need some info to back me up though
Btw we have the diono radian. Love it!
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
I'm gonna go take a picture for you with it down all the way and the insert with a doll
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Yes they really do. It's literally the keyfit in a convertible when it's down all the way. I attended the Chicco webinar last week and the Chicco rep said flat out "this seat will get 99% of kids rearfacing until 4 years old...based on the national average of most 4 year olds being on average 40 lbs"...so, yes? Lol she's on the 4th out of 7 harness positions and the headrest can go all the way up while rearfacing.
deleted-user·
Do the slots really go that low? I love the purple, I'm sure once it gets popular they will have out the colors like the keyfit. I love the 9 reclines too. How high is the top harness realistically going to last for kids of average height
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Also it's fairly bigish. It's definitely wider then a Radian but not as wide as a Britax I would say...but will fit small cars front to back.
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
It was $299 at babiesrus. This is the Gemini color which is purple and grey (I think this color is only available at BRU). They also had light grey and light grey, dark grey and light grey and black and grey I think?. SUPER easy to install with latch. If you install this seat wrong with latch you shouldn't have children and I don't know how you feed yourself :P ...literally THAT easy. Haven't belt installed it yet....it has lockoffs which I love. 9 recline positions and bubble levels on both sides. Automatic width adjusting harness...2 position chest clip and literally can fit a preemie. When it's down all the way with the insert its the same as the smallest setting on the keyfit.
deleted-user·
On a side note how much was it and what color combos did they have, easy instal? Big seat or pretty standard,
deleted-user·
Wow! I've never seen a kid that old rear facing! My son was 36 inches at 1 years and was forward facing at that age---this was 3 1/2 years ago when it was ok to turn them around at 1. BUT good for you!!!
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
I don't even know what I would do with a giant kid lol...I've never had one ?????
deleted-user·
This makes me sad, not the r.fing thing good job on your commitment but the fact that your 5 yr old weighs 30 lbs and is 38 inches tall. My two year old weighs 34 lbs and is 38 inches tall. Why must I have such a huge kid that is determined to grow way too fast?!? ? Sorry I'm having a self pity party today realizing my baby isn't a baby anymore. ?
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Oh yeah, my kids are carseat lovers dreams! My oldest whose 9, is only 60 lbs (and harnessed in a Regent) lol
deleted-user·
She is tiny though, you're lucky! my 15 month old is 26 pounds and 34 inches, I really hope we can make it until at least 4
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
I doubt she'll be within the limits at 8 (my 7 year old is just now 40 lbs and exceeded his rearfacing seat last year in height) but if she was...yes I probably would. I buy seats with the highest rearfacing capabilities so that they can rearface for as long as possible.
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
She's definitely not to big! Once she reaches the rearfacing limit though she will be ;).
deleted-user·
She looks far to big to be rear facing still.. but she is adorable and I love that carseat!
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
The height limit is 50 inches...she's 38 inches. There has never been 1 documented case of broken legs while rearfacing...there have been numerous cases of broken legs while forward facing. Broken leg...cast it. Broken neck...casket.
deleted-user·
Yeah her legs look a little cramped :/
deleted-user·
Well you learn something new everyday! My daughter is 5 and in a booster seat with just the seat belt.
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Absolutely there is a RFing limit which is 40 lbs for this particular seat. She's 30 lbs ;)
deleted-user·
She's 5?
deleted-user·
Lauren, a lot of seats are made to ERF for older kids now, since we are learning more about the developing spine's need for protection and the high likelihood of internal decapitation in accidents with forward-facing LOs.
deleted-user·
Pp all carseats have different weight limits! :)
deleted-user·
Im jealous!! My son could use a new one!!
He has the Graco My ride 65 now and he just turned 2.
deleted-user·
I'm all for extended rear facing, but isn't there like a 40 pound weight limit for rear facing and then they need to be turned around? Not being mean, just curious!
deleted-user·
I'm putting this in the running for when our Combi Coccoro gets outgrown :) Yay for RF and safe LOs!!!
deleted-user·
Our her feet up like that cuz she cant stretch them out
squishymommy1·
Многодетная мама (5 детей)
Mydaughtercharli...she just turned 5
deleted-user·
yeah thats luxury lol
yay for extended RF!
deleted-user·
Love it, and extended rearfacing, wish it was out 3 months ago when I bought two new seats
deleted-user·
I want it sooo much:/
deleted-user·
That looks big enough for me!!!! :)
