I'm struggling with my parents seeing and respecting me as a parent. Originally they were going out of town this weekend. My husband and I planned to enjoy an Easter themed brunch, a basket for our sweet girl and fun ways to "hide" eggs for a one year old. Today my dad called to say they had decided to stay to spend the holiday with our baby. He demanded we drive an hour to be at his house both tomorrow and Sunday. I still feel like a child with him so I caved. I don't know how to change or stand my ground.

I feel the same way with my parents and being a single I have to balance my side and my sons fathers side

My daughters grandparents started doing that. They started to act like they was my daughters parents. If I was you I would kindly and respectfully decline. You're a mommy now and you are your daughters voice. Eventually they'll catch on and stay in their place (not in a mean rude way)

People only do what you allow them to.

I definitely agree with @kaylamoye1, just respectfully decline and let them know how you had already planned to spend the holiday. 😊

One thing for sure, they will continue to take over and as your daughter get older she will think they have the last say so and not you. I'm super close to my parents too but have had to go against them after I became a mom for the sake of establishing a parent child relationship with my son. I'd tell my son no and my mom will tell him yes. If you don't make it clear to them and the child that you're the parent early on it will cause issues with your child later on.

@kaylamoye1, @kimny, @sharaelopez, @natchimom1111, You're all right and I appreciate the encouragement. My relationship with my grandparents was so special to me that I think I let too much slide sometimes. Even having my daughter so young, I can't imagine ever seeing her as an adult, someone who know more than me or someone who has final say. I guess life is funny and full of constant change.

Transgender children So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are your thoughts on the matter? Do u think the parents are behind this? Idk because I haven't met the parents or children. I just think at 5 it's very young for children to really understand. What do u ladies think?
