Starting thinking about painkillers during labour, especially the epidural. I'm not 100% sure if I want it as I've heard mixed views about it. I want to try n just do it on gas n air but I don't know if I will be capable of handling the pain.
Anyone had good experiences with the epidural? Heard it can cause permanent back ache afterwards

Some antenatal classes cover pain relief so in about ten weeks or so you can speak to the midwife running the class about your worries and what other options are available. My second class is next & I'd really like to know about diamorphine

@sweetsesame, thank you I didn't even think of that. So many things to think about in these 9 mths, my brain can't cope 😂

my epidural was awesome @missy84 , it gave so much relief from the horrendous pain that was caused from my son turning back to back during labour and pressing on nerves in my back x

Its extremely rare to have permanent nerve damage, don't worry about it!

I was so against the epidural because I was scared of being paralysed and didn't wanna have drugs in my body but was the best choice I made! I didn't feel a thing I slept the entire time I only pushed for a short time as well even though I couldn't feel down there the only down side is you have to have a horrid catheter in for a bit after and you'll need help moving around xx

It's hard because everyone's experience is different. I was open to try anything I felt I needed however when I did ask for it it was too late 😂 I did however have a spinal injection after giving birth while they fixed my tear & I hated being bed bound for half a day & having the catheter. My backs plays up now & then but I think that's just part of giving birth/getting older 😂 I'm going to try & not have one this time as I want to be able to walk around, get out of bed to hold my baby myself ASAP 😊

I'm going to try without the epidural (as I'm afraid of having a catheter and not being able to move) however if I decide at the time I really need it I'm open to having an epidural. Birth plans never go as planned anyway so keep your options open 😊 xx

I've decided that I do not want one! I keep telling myself that I'm not gonna have one unless absolutely necessary! But I've also said if I'm struggling to cope I'll consider it! I just keep running it through my head trying to convince and train my brain that I don't want it!! Haha.x
