For many parents out there, especially first-timers, naming their baby can be both stressful and hard – there are just too many names to choose from! So we asked the mom.life community for some tips on naming babies and how they named theirs. We hope some of these stories will give you just the inspiration you need to come up with a unique and beautiful name!💕
💬I found out I was pregnant in Sept. 2015 and.my dad died of cancer Oct. 2015. He loved Harley Davidson bikes, so I named my baby girl Harley after him.
💬Layne Daniel is my son’s name… I named him after Layne Staley from the band Alice in Chains… Layne Staley’s middle name was Thomas but I didn’t like Thomas. Daniel was my son’s uncle’s name (who sadly passed in the early 2000s), so his dad and I decided to give him Daniel as a middle name.
💬Melody Rayne is my daughter’s name. My SO and I sat and talked about it and we both agreed that music 🎼 had greatly impacted our lives. For me, I have struggled with depression my entire life and music was my comfort. The one thing I could turn to and flip through any song and it be exactly how I felt. It soothed me. When my father died, it greatly helped me cope and grieve. I didn’t want to talk to anyone about anything; I clammed up. And listened to music. For my fiancé it was his escape. As he too dealt with depression. Bullying. And being the black sheep of his family. He found a huge liking to techno music and dubstep. He says it’s up lifting makes him feel good. It’s also how we sometimes communicate with one another. He knows what I listen to when I am in a fun mood as I do him. So we wanted to name her something music related. We came up with Melody. Our life will play to her. She will be our Melody. Rayne. A unique way to spell rain. We both agreed that there is a high significance in rain. I also took the baby’s God mother into consideration for this. Rain can be so soothing. If you cry while it’s raining, your tears will melt away with the rain. A lot of times along with worry. Rain also gives life to things and nourishes. Everything that lives in this world needs water. Crops need rain. We now need our daughter. And she has brought new life with her. Makes the name meaningful.
💬My husband and I are both Christians. When we found out we were having a boy, he was at military police training and I was doing a bible study with my church. The focus of the study was Joshua leading God’s army to the Promised.Land, and I couldn’t get the name out of my head. I even had a dream about it. I felt as though God was telling me what our son’s name was supposed to be. Over a weekend visit, I convinced my husband. We had originally agreed on José Davíd after his father and brother, so it was something that took a couple days of prodding. In the beginning, my husband wanted Joshua David because he didn’t want to offend his brother, but in the end I convinced him that it was more honorable to name our son Joshua José after my husband’s father, who had passed away when my husband was a child. Joshua, Yeshua, or JJ. Not Josh. And never Joshy. If we ever are blessed with a daughter, her middle name will be Fay. (My Great great grandma, great grandma, both my grandmas middle names and myown middle name except mine is spelled Faye which means “I failed” in Spanish.)😁
💬We wanted to name the baby after the important men in our life. His grandfather’s name is William and my dad’s middle name is Lee & I loved the name Jace. So initially his name was William Lee Jace. I actually liked it but felt it was kinda heavy. We had a lot of naysayers and I was pretty steadfast in the decision until I saw the name Liam. And I felt it combined William (because Liam a nickname) & the way I pronounce it (Lee•um). So his name became Liam Jace. I love it, his papa loves it. Pick something that you love, that’s my one & only piece of advice.

💬Pick a name that means something to you. My son’s name came from a dream I had a few weeks before he was born. In the dream, I sat and talked to a young man; smart, handsome, fun, etc. and at the end of the dream he said he had to go but I’d see him again soon. I took it as a sign from God that he was showing me who my son could be. After.I had him I’ve had 2 miscarriages but pregnant with my rainbow baby that’s due in about 29 days. Her name means to blossom in the pleasant meadow because God is my satisfaction! Some names I threw together that I’ve always liked but also in appreciation to God for blessing me to bear another child after what I’ve been through.
💬My husband had the option to choose where he wanted to be stationed (we were just.dating at the time) while I was stationed in DC. He really wanted to go to Fort Carson, but decided to go to Fort Belvior instead to be closer to me. We named our son Carson after the Army base because Daddy gave up going there to be with Mommy.
With my first I had a name picked out since before I got married lol so [my.SO] didn’t really have a choice. But he did add a second middle name to honor his side of the family. With the second [child], I choose the middle name and he chose the first because he wanted a “manly” sounding name lol.
💬My mother passed when I was five from leukemia, and I always knew that I would name my child after her. My firstborn niece claimed my mother’s middle name, Denise, so I chose to use my mother’s first name for my child, Celia. From there, we took my SO’s mother’s middle name, Diane, for our child’s middle name. I love the way we are able to honor our mothers. It’s hard going through my first pregnancy without a mother.
💬My son’s name is the same as his father’s middle name. It was quick thinking because he already has a son named after him. My mother was making a personalized banner for my baby shower and we decided to give him his middle name “Girard”. His nickname “Major” came from my sister and I watching a TV show of a family and the little boy with the same nickname reminded me of his father when he was little.
💬My daughter “Kyana” is simply named after me “Kiarra”. My fiancé and I tried to put our names togetherbut all we got was “Karen” I didn’t really like that name. So we were gonna name her “Kayana” but my mom had made her a shirt with the name “Kyana” on it. So we let it stay.
We already knew out first son would be a Junior and our 2nd one would be named after my father who I lost to cancer. But the girl’s name is up in the air. We went online to look at names and picked a few names that sounded respectable. My daughters middle name is apart of my grandmother’s name, which is also his grandmother’s middle name so it worked.
💬If my youngest would have been a girl the name we had picked out was Florine Maria Johnson after my MIL and SIL.
💬Both of my boys are named after their fathers Nickalaus Todd Griffey Jr. and Christopher Fermeal Johnson Jr.
💬In my family it’s normal to use the grandma’s name as the middle name but I wanted to pay tribute to my nana who was my best friend as a child. She was a woman who always held my heart…her name wasLoraine. My moms name is Anne…that should’ve been my daughter’s middle name. We decided on Lorianne Lynn (Lynn is my MIL’s name). It’s completely outdated and unique and we love it.
My daughters name is Leyla. One day I was just thinking of names and it hit me. I really like Leyla – the spelling took a little longer to come up with, we wanted something unique but not ghetto or anything like that.
💬I named my son after Spider-Man.🕷

We named our son after my friend Veronica but she was more of a sister when I first met her she wanted me to call her Ronni. And also her dad who I was very close with his name is Ronnie. My sister passed away from a seizure then two weeks later Ronnie passed away from falling off falling rock. Our sons name is Kai Ronnie <3
I'm naming my baby Gallifrey Amias for a boy (Gally for short) and Zephyr Florian for a girl (Zephie for short.) We're trying to stick with unique, gender-neutral names so that our baby can feel free to discover who they are, without us putting so many limits on them. Gallifrey is the name of the home planet of the Timelords from Doctor Who. Doctor Who means a lot to my partner and I, since we met online after he made a post asking, "Any girls like Doctor Who?" We wouldn't have met if not for our common obsession. I found Amias as the name of a non-binary Youtuber. I found Zephyr on a baby naming site listed under the "girl" names, meaning "gentle breeze", but later discovered it was the name of a male character from the sequel to The Hunchback of Notre Dame. And finally, Florian was a street name I found while driving through a beautiful rich neighborhood. It means "flower."
We named our daughter Melody Piper, I have always loved the name Piper and years ago I drove past a street called Melody almost every day, and every time I saw that street name I would think to myself, I really love that name! And it sounds beautiful and fits well paired with Piper as a middle name 😍 so hubby agreed that he also liked that name, so I got the dream name I had wanted for years!!! If we ever have a boy, we want to name him Ryker Declan 😊 a strong Irish name 😉
My oldest sister passed away before shd had kids of her own her name was Lorraine so my middle sister & I decidedto keep her name going by have each of our daughters have "Raine" in someway that was her nick name so my niece middle name is Yaraine & my oldest daughter middle name is Shyraine & my baby middle name is Ah'Rainah
I named my son Atlas Rama. Atlas as in the Greek God who carried the weight of the world on his shoulders My son is the first born. Rama after my Father in law my husband wanted to name one after his dad.
ahhhh! the girl who named her son after layne stayley is amazing!! alice in chains is my favorite band!! my son's name is Zephyr, it's greek for a gentle wind. it was the name of the revolutionary skateboarding team from venice beach back in the 70s. when i found out that i was pregnant i was positive that i was having a girl from old wives tale indications. i wanted to name her fern ophelia, but i found out i was having a boy and the only name i could think of naming my beautiful son was zephyr! my boyfriend took my entire pregnancy to warm up to it. in fact it wasn't until the day before i had my son that he finally agreed that we would name him zephyr. his name was initially zephyr osiris but he was born the day before my boyfriend's father's birthday, so he got his name as his middle name, james 💕

Our daughter who is due in a few weeks is going to be Sawyer Lynee (ly-nay). Sawyer comes from my husbands father reading him Tom Sawyer books and I always loved the character Payton Sawyer from one tree hill. Sawyer was our name regardless of the sex. Lynee is my moms middle name, Lynn and his mother middle name Renee together. She passed from breast cancer when we were in HS. There you have it Sawyer Lynee Hughes
My son is named after King Leonidas and after two if his grandfathers and my favorite movie as a kid Edward scissor hands lol. Leonidas Nathaniel Edward (:

My daughter is named after mine and my husbands best friend from high school, that was shot and killed in a robbery. His name was Raymond and my daughters name is Raelynn. His mother was so excited when I asked if I co up name our child after him.
My baby girl is Emmalynn Aida Maria. Emma is my cousin who just got adopted by my grandparents so is technically my aunt now. Lynn is my grandmas name and also my moms., sisters., and aunts middle name. Aida is my boyfriends moms name. And Maria is my other sisters name. Every part of her name has a meaning.💕💕
Our sons middle name is my late grandfathers middle name and now our daughter will have my husbands grandmothers middle name. She's alive and well still, but it felt right. (: first names just came down to narrowing it to what we both like. Xander Emerson and Rylie Pauline (:
my baby's name will be Christian Julio Gabriel. his father's name is Christian, his paternal grandfather was Julio, and his maternal grandfather (and also my middle name but masculine) Gabriel
My daughter's name will be Akemi Gianna we just wanted something different and not common
We like to look at family names and character names from books.
My baby girl will be Reina Alina. My name is Regina which means queen in Latin. I'm filipino and my husband is mexican. we chose Reina because it means queen in both Tagalog and Spanish. (Reina is also Regina without the G). Baby girl's middle name is Alina which is from my mother in law's name Catalina.
My SO picked his name from his childhood Idol Jason Kidd the basketball player.
I was about 2 months. looking for baby boy and girl names. we had nothing for boy names all the way til I found out the gender... but i had lots of girl names . I was searching online and came across LIDIANA. I always like liliana but that was common. I figured lidiana sounded really nice & unique. so we chose that. my bf also loved it. luckily we didn't have a problem agreeing!
Melani is just a name I like and I took off the E. I made up the boy name Jaysiah from Josiah.
my husband actually came up with the name for our first child. Her name is Jeslyn. Jes is the first part of his middle name (Jeston) and lyn is the first part of mine (Lynn). I loved the idea, so that's what we went with. For baby #2 (currently pregnant) we picked out names for a girl and a boy but since his best friend (brandon) has been so awesome to us, we went with Brynden for our baby girl. :)
My fiancé picked her name out. It's a song called zoey jane that talks about protecting his daughter from all the things in life he went through.
from day 1 when I found out I was pregnant I told my fiance I would let him name the Baby && he picked"Kayden" For A Boy iv always loved the name KAYDEN. He Wouldn't Pick a girl name for nothing in the world his reason was we already have a daughter "Jordyn" so I was going to have his son && sure enough later on we found out it was a boy && kept the name KAYDEN, My Name is "KAYLA" && fiance name is "DEANTHONY" So Kayden Was A Great Pick.
I knew from the day we started trying what I wanted our sons name to be (if we had one). There was a little boy who was autistic and had braces on his legs but never let it stop him. He was so happy and was such a joy to be around. I told my SO the story and with our even thinking about it he said I want that to be our sons name (once again if we have one) So when I found out I was having a boy I was so excited.
Leyla was a name we came up with way before we found out I was pregnant Ramsey we got from ff7 lpl and Laforest was my mother's maiden name she unfortunately passed in 2009 I miss her everyday and I wanted my daughter to know her in some way and lyons is her dad's last name
We had no problem with a boy name cause we was gonna name the boy after him: Dartanyun. But for a girl..we struggled. So we was watching dr Doolittle and seen the actress Kyla Pratt and we both agreed to it. And we got her middle name Rose from his mom, it's her middle name.
we had no problem finding a boy name. but the girls name was hard. when I became pregnant we started with girls name. I always knew Grace would be in her name to honor a friend that passed away when we were children. we had Elsa, Riyan, Isabella, jasmine. but none called out to me. then a week before our gender ultrasound I watched the movie fault in our stars. main characters name was Hazel Grace Lancaster. it was like the heavens opened and the angels sang. I asked my husband how he felt about 2 first names. I told him the name and he agreed. she would have my middle name I grew up with. so she was named Hazel Grace Michelle Zehm. there were times I wasn't sure. but when she was born she fit the name perfectly.
Took us 7 months to come up with names for our son that we both could agree on! Having been a teacher for 9 years, I didn't want a name him a name one of my students have had, so my best friend listed a bunch of names, and Ezra stood out to me. And also I wanted a name that would have a cute nickname as well, so we call him Ezzie. I think as long as it resonates with you and you sit with a chosen name for a while, then go for it! You also have a couple of days to change it if you wish before the city hall person comes hunting you down for the birth certificate form! 😜
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
Short Luteal Phase?
I've just started temping because I believe that the reason I haven't had a BFP yet, after 20 months, is because I believe I may have a Luteal Phase Defect.

Transgender children
So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are...
As a child I swore I would have a boy and he would have dark skin, his name would be Joseph Anthony after my mother, Josefa Antonia. But after some complications I didn't want o have a child at all and so that complicated things. Last year I was surprised and got pregnant but had a miscarriage. After I lost the child I wept to God and said that if he allowed me to become a mother I wanted a girl her name would be Vida, which means life in Spanish and Vida also means Beloved. The same way He gifted me of allowing me to bring life into this world, I prayed my daughter would give life to others with her character. I gave birth to Vida Valentina on May 12th. My daughter's full name defines to Brave Life.
