Preggies,
We've seen quite a few posts from moms who look like they are suffering from either prenatal and postpartum depression. This is nothing to be ashamed about and we must support women going through this. Below are numbers and a link to find counseling. Also. we are always here if you need someone to talk to.
.
According to The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), between 14-23% of women will struggle with some symptoms of depression during and after pregnancy. Women with depression usually experience some of the following symptoms for 2 weeks or more:
Persistent sadness
Difficulty concentrating
Sleeping too little or too much
Loss of interest in activities that you usually enjoy
Recurring thoughts of death, suicide, or hopelessness
Anxiety
Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
Change in eating habits
Postpartum depression symptoms:
Postpartum depression may be mistaken for baby blues (which affect up to 80% of women) at first — but the signs and symptoms are more intense and last longer, eventually interfering with your ability to care for your baby and handle other daily tasks. Symptoms usually develop within the first few weeks after giving birth, but may begin later — up to six months after birth.
Postpartum depression symptoms may include:
Depressed mood or severe mood swings
Excessive crying
Difficulty bonding with your baby
Withdrawing from family and friends
Loss of appetite or eating much more than usual
Inability to sleep (insomnia) or sleeping too much
Overwhelming fatigue or loss of energy
Reduced interest and pleasure in activities you used to enjoy
Intense irritability and anger
Fear that you're not a good mother
Feelings of worthlessness, shame, guilt or inadequacy
Diminished ability to think clearly, concentrate or make decisions
Severe anxiety and panic attacks
Thoughts of harming yourself or your baby
Recurrent thoughts of death or suicide
Untreated, postpartum depression may last for many months or longer.
Postpartum psychosis
With postpartum psychosis — a rare condition that typically develops within the first week after delivery — the signs and symptoms are even more severe. Signs and symptoms may include:
Confusion and disorientation
Obsessive thoughts about your baby
Hallucinations and delusions
Sleep disturbances
Paranoia
Attempts to harm yourself or your baby
Postpartum psychosis may lead to life-threatening thoughts or behaviors and requires immediate treatment.

@tristennicole, @ilovebeingyourmommy @marmber ❤️❤️❤️
@camcam216, sounds like you have a lot of emotions to deal with. You should bring it up at your next doctor's appointment to be on the safe side. Congratulations 🎉👶🏼
I just had my son almost 3 weeks ago and I'm a ftm... I tend to cry a lot but I never cry because I'm sad. I haven't had any bad thoughts or suicide thoughts. I tend to cry bc I look at my son an think how cute he is... lol is that normal? I cry happy tears... I tried for so long to have a baby and for years thought I couldn't have kids. I got preg 4 years ago and we were both so excited! but Jesus took my baby only 7 short weeks later. so when I got preg again, of course I was afraid of it happening again... but when it didn't we were SO overjoyed! now that he's here I'm SO sensitive towards him and about him lol... is that considered depression is that considered depression?? @preggie_usa
thanks for this I have never had depression or anything like it and I totally had postpartum depression for at least a month I'm finally feeling better :) it can happen to anyone even if you don't think it can be you ... good luck Mommy's you can get through it and don't be ashamed of getting help ... here if any Mommy's need it :)
@preggie_usa, thank you for putting it out there. This app was so great during my pregnancy, im so happy to see you care for your members. I didnt even realize i was also suffer post partum psychosis as well. Thankfully i am being treated for my ppd and ppa.
@nappysgirl15, im not a doctor but it MAY put you at risk. Prior to getting preggers i had body image issues which led to depression and anxiety. During my pregnancy i was so happy, my therapist hoped and believed i wouldnt suffer from ppd and pp anxiety. Alas i did, it hit me HARD, so hard i had to take a break from this app bcuz i couldnt deal or read about others happy moments not even my own. Best thing is have a support system in place and if you can try to talk to a therapist. Also we are here for you.
@preggie_usa, Does it put me at a higher risk for ppd if im struggling with emotional problems while pregnant. My bf walked out on me about half way thru my pregnancy so ive had alot of struggles during due to that.
@telliey, @toyatennie @prettypinkbows @channy92 @mommabear538 @wannaboyplz @adrianamead 💗💗💗💗💗
I had postpartum depression after having my daughter. It was not an experience I would wish on anyone! It is very important to get help.
thank you @preggie_usa I have been suffering from postpartum depression since my daughter was born, now I'm pregnant 2 years later and still depressed.
@preggie_usa, 😔😑 i thought I was the only one and no one noticed my depression because all i ever saw was how everybody else is in soooo much love with their baby in the womb 😢😢
thank you @telliey and I kinda think I am going through postpartum depression
@toyatennie, thought about you hun. Not trying to imply anything but if you ever did need to talk to someone.....
....FUCKING GREEEEEAAAATTTT add that to my list of things i need to worry about... -_-
@gabbator95, talk to your doctor about it. If you already have depression, you are much more likely to have prenatal or postpartum depression.
@little_mami03, what an amazing dad you have!
what if you already have severe depression. how can I how can I know if this is just my regular depression or pregnancy depression please help
It is no joke, I know first hand. I have always thought of myself as a very strong woman who has overcome many obstacles, but after my second child I got really sick I slept all day, I couldn't take care of my kids, I was having panic attacks, I couldn't keep anything down, I started to rapidly lose weight to the point where I couldn't walk. Finally my dad said enough and drove to my house took one look at me and was like this needs to stop or your going to die. He put my kids into the car and carried me to the car and took care of my kids and fed me little bits at a time I stayed there until I had enough strength to walk and I was keeping food down it took me months to get back to normal. It's a horrible thing to go through and I'm begging anyone who might be having any problems even if they're minimal to please get help or talk to someone it's a scary thing to go through and it's practically impossible to get out of on your own.
It's been a week and I definitely am having baby blues. anxiety is sky high
I'm going to on Tuesday unless I go into labor before in which I have early labor symptoms now
@sberthoud1, it affects about 25% of pregnant women. Talk to your doctor. 💗
I feel this way now and I'm still pregnant :(
@hockeymama, @reynatres12 @nurseriri ❤️❤️❤️
@preggie_usa, we also have the baby blues which is not as bad as PPD. But it starts that way and if prolonged it can become PPD. I experienced first week after giving birth but luckily I was aware of my emotions which is normal and last 5-10 days. Overwhelmed sadness amongst Some of the different types of feeling.
I've been through some of these I didn't know it was real serious. It's hard because I feel like I'm alone with no one by my side. but this app has really helped me because I can put my feelings and I know that I'm not a lone. It makes me feel better that there are so many mommies here that are by our sides when we need advise or just someone to help us with our problems. Thank you @preggie_usa for this app it has made me feel better than I did before. I still have my problems but at least I don't keep them bottled up.
Sometimes PPD doesn't show up right away but months later.. Mine hit when my son was 4 months old.. I got treatment for 2 years! Now he's 7 and we have a great mother son relationship :) always seek help. Only you know your body and what's truly going on.. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and with help it WILL get better :)
@losmartinez, @tracynangel @mrs.n.mr.awesome ❤️❤️
I went thru post partum depression with my 1st but its didn't last long and as of 4years ago i do have bpd and severe anxiety amongst other problems. its no fun living life like a hermit crab and having no one...this is the first time I've had a form of internet in years i stay alone...prayers for all going thru invisible illness!
@preggie_usa, I have not yet. I have an appointment with him on Thursday and I'll talk about it.
I went through it, so I'm here is anyone needs to talk!
@littlemonkey, yes prenatal depression is very real.
is it possible to have these symptoms before having your baby. i get most of these now . and im only 25 weeks. could it just be hormones?
I just had my daughter on the 12th with the healing & the whole life changing over night it hit me hard, it's seeming to subside now since I have my mom helping me, post partum depression is real and sucks!
I think I show signs of PPD, I don't care to go out and be with family/friends anymore. I just stay in my room, and nights are the hardest. I just lay in bed bawling my eyes out, and I'm not sure why. I tried talking to my boyfriend but he thinks it's a made up thing, I'm scared to go to a doctor honestly because I feel like I'd be a bad mom if that were the case. It's not easy.
@mommyrai, this post was not referring to you at all. We had two posts from moms with depression.
When I posted that I was talking about posts on Facebook & Twitter. That make it seem like its cool. I am diagnosed with Bipolar Depression & Anxiety. & I was mad at how people will post about having it simply because they're "having a bad day" or "things aren't going their way" it's offensive to people like me. So don't assume before asking what I meant. Because being someone who lives with panic attacks & hyperventilation & who have dealt with suicidal thoughts it is offensive to me & others. @preggie_usa
I suffered with a form of postpartum depression after my son was born 2 years ago. now that I look back I can see that it started immediately the day after I had him while I was still in the hospital! the signs were there but I thought I was upset about my body/ pain after birth but it was way deeper than that!! I suffered for a week before I finally said something. if anyone would like any tips or advice in regards to what I experienced or how I felt I would love to help!!! my husband thought I was going insane and I just hid from everyone else. if anyone needs to talk or has any questions I'm a stay at home mom and always have my phone near me!! feel free to message me anytime. I am watching for warning signs in myself as I inch my way closet to delivery this time. it can start before you even deliver!
I have been wondering if I'm getting this. It's crazy because my daughter is 4 months old and it hasn't been till now that I have these just awful mood swings and fatigue beyond belief. My motivation to do things is practically 0 and everyone drives me insane. Could it be PPD?
@harmonee_mommy, could you tell him with a trusted relative or your doctor
@harmonee_mommy, glad you're able to talk about it now.
yes @preggie_usa I also try to talk to my child's father but he doesn't understand
@harmonee_mommy, @losmartinez have you talked to your doctor?
Feeling strong prenatal depression. It's not everyday, but the symptoms add up.
I was diagnosed with bi polar and manic depression so therefore my doctor told me my depression was gonna b worse than before. Some days I'm able to smile and just because I smile doesn't mean I'm happy I try to disguise my depression. I have had several thoughts of self harm and harm to my baby girl which is y I beg her dad not to leave me home alone with her I don't trust my actions
I have bipolar I disorder and have been told I am at a much higher risk than other mommies without previous diagnoses. I never wish anyone this hurt that I have been through, but if you are indeed struggling I urge everyone to seek help. Please! It can save a life 💕
I love this!. suffered PD with my first and my god was it the worst struggle of my life! I never want other mommies to feel like that! 💕 much love @preggie_usa
@brycesmommy, we want everyone to know we are always here to help and these are serious issues.
Love the fact that you guys care enough to address these issues :) love this app!!!

the amount of women who are clueless about their own anatomy is so sad and shocking. a lot of the women are older than me and have more children then I do 😳
now I understand that everyone has their own opinion on the topic and grown adults can do whatever they want with their bodies but to deny facts and make up false statements about your own anatomy when it comes to your unborn child is just so disappointing.
