Do I need to have my child's father's permission to change my baby's last name or can I just go do it?
I think it's if he's on the birth certificate you have to have his permission if he's not you can.
Depending on the state but where I'm from you do have to have his permission I changed my first son last name it's a long process but it's worth it do it now because when she is older it will cost way more money
If his name is on the birth certificate, he has to sign off on any name changes. At least that's how it is in MN.
if its just hyphenated I think you should be good. you can always call and ask someone.
@aidensmommy, I just want to add my last name...have it hypenated or whatever lol
I believe you have to have his permission. when my mom decided to change mine when I was 4, she had to serve him with papers that he had to sign (he was in prison so whatever they send him, he has to sign whether he agrees with it or not) after he signed them, she could legally change my last name.
I think might depend what state though? Because here even if the father not on the birth certificate you have to have Permission. For me personally my first son father wasn't on his birth certificate and I still needed his signature! Which I don't understand if the guy is not apart of your child life since the day you got pregnant or never met your child why even have his permission!?
