Does anyone know up until what point it's ok to smoke cigarettes? I'm trying my damndest to quit but it being a habit for so long it's been hard. My boyfriend (baby's father) also smokes so that's hard being around it too. Anyone know up to how long you can smoke before its bad for the baby and most at risk for problems? And does anyone have any advice for quitting?

That is one battle I am not looking forward to fighting! My fiancé& I both smoke& we're trying to cut back now so it won't be as hard when I do get pregnant, luckily my fiancé is willing to quit with me! I can only imagine how hard it is for you 😢 smoking is bad for baby, but I have known women to smoke throughout their entire pregnancy and the baby turns out just fine; definitely not recommend but hope it makes you feel a little better about it!

@carlileigh24, it's really hard. I know I've been struggling with it too but even just cutting down to a few a day can make a world of a difference. I've tried patches and gum, candy, salty things, and I even talked to my ob about it to get help and she told me that if you stress over too much that can be harmful to baby as well. So I just try and cut down a lot. I went from about a half a pack a day to only 2 or maybe 3 a day and my baby is perfectly healthy. Try not to worry to much and definitely talk to you doctor about it! Hope this helps, even if it's just a little bit! :/

I stopped by 14 weeks and my baby is healthy. I read a few different articles by doctors that you need to stop by your fifteen week to prevent severe damage. obviously if you could you should try your best to stop right away, I definitely cut back when I found out I was pregnant, (wasn't a huge smoker to begin with, only smoked maybe 3 a day at work because of stress) I'm so glad I quit now I feel great and I don't feel the anxiety and shame I felt like I did in the beginning..I will not be smoking after my baby girl is born either so it's a great accomplishment, good luck. I'm here if you need anything

Smoking is really terrible even before you get pregnant, cuz it can create mutations in your genome. People are right: the first trimester is critical to baby's development, so you should think about this tiny creature who totally depends on you from now on. This is going to be your first and very difficult thing to do for your child. The most effective way to quit is... To decide to quit and to be responsible for this decision. Unfortunately, it's true. It may not be very pleasant to know, but it's the only way. So just decide and be strong for your baby. Good luck!

@carlileigh24, I've tired to stop smoking too. And it does sucks when your SO stil smokes to. mine does. my doctor said if I can't completely quit to at least limit myself to a couple a day. that's what help me cut down a lot I maybe smoke 2 a day now but I smoke half at a time so it spread out. I tried the sucker thing and gum like @kmrie suggested and I have seen it work for ppl but not me personally. I wanted to ask a question about smoking on here but I was too ashamed so you're stronger than I am. lol good luck :)

the worst is the first three months because that's when everything in the baby is first developing and growing. try eating sweets that helps with the cravings. or talk to your OB about it. smoking during pregnancy is bad over all :/ but I understand sometimes its hard trust me. but the first three months are crucial for developing for your LO.

Believe its bad the whole time... Keep yourself busy have something to do so your not thinking about it so much might eat more cuz your not smoking but owell better for the baby maybe chew gum or suck on a sucker so your kinda like tricking yourself... In away i stoped smoking way before i ever got pregnant but i remember it was hard an just like having something to chew on or like a sucker to have in your mouth kinda memics the same kinda thing as a cig
