Ladies, so my fiance and I have been talking and we think this is the only baby we are going to want to have, he has suggested I maybe get my tubes tied, but what if one day we just might want to give our daughter another sister or brother? I'm scared it's too permanent of a choice. We just know for sure that we don't want to become pregnant right after we have our daughter and he just doesn't think birth control is effective enough. Any advice mama's would be much appreciated.

There's still a very slim chance to get pregnant with tubes tied. I'd have him get a reverse vasectomy or talk to him about it.

it is not a permanent how ever it is really expensive to reversed the surgery and not even private health insurance covers the surgery. Plus keep in my your age also not to get in your businesses but what if you separate and later remarry ? Just think about it i had my tied for over 10 year for me at the time was a great decision at the time but did ended up having surgery to reversed them since i did remarry and my husband had no children of his own.

@mrm83015, @mrsgeorge @paigemay123 thanks ladies, I might just do the birth control IUD it's just my fiance doesn't think that's going to be enough. I just don't want to do something and end up regretting it and I'm afraid that's what will happen if I do decide to get my tubes tied

why would you want your tubes tied if this is your first pregnancy after a while you going to want to give your baby a brother or sister there's alot of complications with your tubes being tied like my sister shes in and out of the hospital with pains and bleeding and cysts its too much just get on birth control the IUD u can have it for 5 years and take it out whenever u want then do it again if you're not ready. Good luck

@chela915, I know I have thought about that. I think because my fiance is so much older than i'am that's why he wants me to get them tied cause he wants to be able to be around for his kids and provide for them properly, it's our first daughter together but he has boys from previous relationships

Don't get your tubes tied :( the IUD lasts a lonnnnngggg time and a lot happens during that time you never know. I had my first 9 years ago and there wasn't a woman in the world more determined and sure that she was my last and going to be my one and only child for ever, now 9 years later here I am thanking God every day for my second blessing I thought I wouldn't get to have. Time changes things you may want more. Don't make that kind of permanent decision it's super expensive to reverse and causes tons of horrible complications also.. Talk with your dr about the next best birth control and plan to not have another anytime soon!

@lovelycin09, we are thinking we don't want to have another and my fiance is just worried that birth control isn't effective enough. there is a part of me that might want another but I just don't know. I probably will just do the IUD he just is worried we could still get pregnant again.

A lot of things can change over the course of even a couple years. I wouldn't make that decision after just one baby. Birth control is an excellent, less permanent, option. It's your body and ultimately you should do what makes you happy and what you are comfortable with. I personally wouldn't make that choice even though these are my last babies. Life is just too unpredictable.

use birth control.. its unfair to you to only be forced to have 1 child just because he had other children.. what if you remarry.. just do the research with the IUD , ive heard both good and bad stories where they worked and where the woman was left without a uterus .. =) but getting your tubes tied after one kid.. nope dont do it

If anything him having a vasectomy poses the least amount of time and money and is the safest procedure of a medical birth control option. It always grinds my gears a little when men suggest the women get her tubes tied since a vasectomy is so much safer, and successfully reversed. An IUD is always a good option and has a pretty good success rate. I always recommend the 5 year Morena.

@jana.bear, thanks, I know it's kind of funny how a man can so easily suggest or tell a woman to get her tubes tied! 😂

Well it's like dude you know I have to go under anesthesia and have full blown surgery which I then have to take time off of work from to recover. A vasectomy is literally an hour long docter appointment, he gets to pop a Valium and relax and 20 minutes later and an incision about 3mm long he can't have babies. He spends 2 days with his feet up and an ice pack on his balls a belly full of Vicodin and he's off to work again. You can die during a tube tie. Only thing he's at risk off is a little anxiety which the docter will take care of. He won't even know his own name after the pill they give him to relax. lol
