my baby is almost a week old and we've been struggling with breast feeding something horrible. we went to several lactation consultants and the one i saw yesterday said I'm not producing enough milk and her latch is poor. we worked on latch but she just can't get the hang of it. she hasn't had wet diapers like she should and is very fussy. dr said I must start supplementing asap because of her weight loss. Anyway I started pumping (which i only get like an ounce from both) and also giving her formula from a bottle. What's the chance of her going back to the breast once she's a little older? Also does anyone else on here exclusively pump? I feel like a failure but I knew something had to be done, she wasn't happy and neither was I. 😯
Drink tons of water. pump as much as you can and if possible to try to pump in the middle of the night when your prolactin levels are higher. keep pumping don't worry you'll build up your milk supply and start pumping over 4oz on each breast. when I started pumping I barely got an ounce out of both together.
I exclusively pumped for a while. My son has problems latching and everything. At a month and a half he decided he was ready to breastfeed. Your body will slowly produce more.
Stay extra hydrated, and try to eat oatmeal! That helped me produce more! I exclusivly pumped for the first 7 weeks of my son's life because he was a preemie but we're able to switch between bottle and breast with no issues. Some things they helped my milk supply were lactation cookies & various drinks. Milk flow makes a super nasty tasting fenugreek and milk thistle drink but it worked for me. Anyway, don't get discouraged! It's difficult, but you can do it! If you do supplement with formula, make sure you continue to pump during or after the feed because you need to let your body know you need that milk coming in. Pump every 2-3 hours. Good luck momma!
u can try a nipple shield.ppl say talk to ur lactation counselor about it.i have flat nipples and my baby couldnt latch properly.the nipple shield helped alot..u can try fenugreek pills,3 pills 3x a day or mother's milk tea..continue to try and dont give up!
I strongly recommend you to keep trying to breastfeed. What I did to take the steps to get my daughter to breastfeed with putting a small baby bottle nipple over mine and she latched better. please try this and let me know how it works!
The formula is only needed until ur milk comes in and regulates enough to feed your lo. If u pump you may not even need to do formula. I was able to pump inbetween and supplement with my pumped milk.
It'll get better. I had the same problem. Pumping actually helped my milk come in and we still have had a few issues.. Keep trying and if the baby just gets too fussy stop for a minute and then try again. Don't worry about how much your pumping right now, just keep pumping. Even if it's only for 5 minutes it's better than not. Drink plenty of fluids, eat well, and keep it baby skin to skin. It all does help❤️❤️
its only been a week! give yourself a break. pump pump pump and eat some foods that help you lactate! have a beer that really helps it gets easier within 3 to 6 weeks you just have to be persistent and want it! you are both learning. Im sure you'll get it. it'll be worth it in the end! and cheaper! you got this
dont feel bad about it! i breast feed and pump. i had a small issuse in the beginni mg with not producing enough as well but i got this tea from earth mama angel baby for breast feeding and i produced triple then what i was pumping whi chris was also 1 once and my flow is good now i recommend you try the tea.
