Not pregnancy related but I am so mad!
My parents have a German Shepard that's about 9 years old and I've started to notice she seems pretty neglected. When I was visiting on Christmas I noticed that she has a growth on her belly (not positive but it looks like it could just be fluid). I asked about it and they hadn't even noticed it until I made them go out and look on Christmas. They said they would take her to the vet when my dad got paid again after the 1st. Fast forward to this Thursday, I went to visit again and as always, I pet her and play with her whenever I first get there before I even knock on the door to go inside. I noticed, not only is the growth bigger but it's also got blisters around the top of it and it looks completely awful. So again, I ask them if she'd been to the vet and they said no they haven't had the money... Well I knew that they had a check they were cashing today (Friday) so I said will you please take her to the vet and let me know what they say. She says, "yes, I'll get your dad and brother to take her, maybe they'll say she needs to be put to sleep." I let that go just hoping they would really get her to the vet. I ask her today if they took her and then I get a message from my brother saying "mom said leave her alone about the dog." I got into a huge argument with both her and my brother and supposedly they're taking her to the vet on "Monday or Tuesday" and I need to shut up about it. Trying to convince them she needs a better home with someone who will take care of her doesn't seem to be working. I even said I'd do the work and try to find someone but she just won't say ok because it's my "brother's dog." He'll be leaving for college and she'll be left there with my parents. I don't know what I can do about it. I can't take the dog because I'm due to have a baby this month and we just can't afford to meet her needs.

@ashley525, she absolutely needs attention and love that she's not getting. I'm planning on calling a couple of rescues on Monday (I'm hoping to find somewhere that will give her a chance, not just put her down.)

give me the address. I'll take the dog and they will think it ran away. that absolutely breaks my heart! I have two loving dogs at home who would love another sibling 💕 I promise it would get plenty of love! I really am sorry. I feel for you; to see a dog that needs physical and emotional attention that no one is giving it...but seriously I would steal the fur baby lol

I've been looking for places and advice on what to do. It's breaking my heart. They have never been this way to any other dogs we had (and we had a lot when I was growing up). She's a beautiful dog and I feel awful for her because I rarely get to visit and I know I've gotta be the only person who just goes to pet her and play. She deserves better and you can just tell she's sad. @gypsy.soul2

it's probably a lipoma which is a fatty tumor that isn't dangerous.. my GS had it too.. However, AC will more than likely put a senior dog down if in bad condition... contact rescues is what you want to do or your humane society.. senior dog rescues are wonderful and since he's a GS you'll wanna look at senior German shep rescues ♡♡ @marileab

To go* she needs to see a vet and I'm afraid I won't be able to find anyone willing to take in a dog with so many needs right now. She's great when she's well but finding someone willing to get her well might be the issue

@tortor4894, if someone got animal control involved right now they would know it's me and I don't need the stress they would cause this late in my pregnancy. I'm giving them the chance to got "Monday or Tuesday" then I'm gonna try to find her a home.

@tahtahme, that's exactly what I've been saying to my mom. It's like talking to a wall and when I got into it with her and my brother today she tried to blame my pregnancy hormones and said "I hope your husband has a place to stay tonight" basically assuming that I was just in a mood and I'll get over it.

Wow how awful. Why have the dog die and suffer in their house for selfish reasons???

i would call animal control and save voicemail. that's negligence and can be considered probably as animal cruelty if the dog is always outside even in cold weather.
