@latinamomof3 Ours was from PetSmart also. We were fortunate and he was very healthy. I'm sorry to hear that your little guy is struggling. May sound weird, but you could call your local veterinarian and ask them if they treat hamsters. Have you checked the good you're giving him? Make sure it doesn't smell odd or have any moisture in it. It sounds like you're doing all the right things. Does he have a plastic wheel? Not a wired one? Does he allow you to hold him still? Does he seem like he is in pain? Have you called the pet store to ask questions? Hope all of my inquiries help you find the answers. Hugs mama!!!

I did get a Syrian from the same store and he’s fine and healthy. I had my suspicions about something being off with this hamster cause he never reacted to noise like ever. I am looking at some local vets but unfortunately I don’t make income and my husband is not going to just go along and pay for a vet bill for the hamster. He lets me hold him which is out of character for him lol I checked him out myself nothing feels broken and he doesn’t react like he’s in pain he walks fine only as if he’s drunk. I called the petsmart but they aren’t much help all they could say is the weather is cold maybe he’s hibernating or less bedding 🤨 that threw me off but wasn’t expecting much. I look up signs of hamsters hibernating and they are all sleeping mine is fully awake. He’s very clean no bad odors, he gets fresh water daily, his food never changed both hamsters get the same food, no diarrhea he has two sand baths that one he uses as a litter box and I can see all his pellets. The bedding doesn’t have an off color if he urinates in it just looks wet. His wheel is a 9 inch silent runner. I joined like three Facebook groups on proper hamster care. When it came to housing, enrichment and diets I did everything I could to give them a stress free environment and he never showed signs of stress or boredom. Unfortunately it seems like with small animals when they get sick it doesn’t end well and which a nocturnal sleeping patter the only I was able to tell they came out at night was by seeing the treat I left them missing.

@latinamomof3 Sounds like you have done everything you can to provide for him in the best way possible. Sadly, as you said, with small animals illness strikes fast. Happy the food isn't the problems since your other hamster is eating it also. At least you can prepare yourself for the worst and still be hopeful for a surprise positive outcome.
