When to vaccinate after COVID?
When my kids had covid and I saw their pediatrician for a follow up. she recommended we didn’t vaccinate for a while due to the inflammation response that can happen after covid and be triggered by a vaccine. Has anyone else been told this and how long did you wait to vaccinate? I left a message for their pediatrician because I want to get the clear for all of them to get their flu shot and my son to get the covid vaccine. When we saw her in september she recommended I delayed my youngest vaccines until her 2 year appointment in january. Just curious of what you guys have done and were told. I’m also wondering if that applies to be for the flu shot and the booster. My ob didn’t seem to have any information.

My dad was told to not get vaccinated for 3 months after having covid by his doctor. I'm not help on the rest though.

I was told to wait three months also. I know you definitely have to wait 3 months if you had the monoclonal antibodies. I was told this is because that’s the timeframe our antibodies are actually stronger than the vaccine.

I think the guidance is changing because people are contracting covid again who had covid previously in as little as 29 days. It's definitely still the case for the monoclonal antibodies, but I think if you've had covid they say to get it when you're out of quarantine now. Good old Delta variant. Sigh.

ah ha! that’s why I was told yesterday to get the vaccine even if I’m reinfected. It has changed up a bit since I was infected. I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had time to geek out in the medical science world much lately. Thank you for the update.

You betcha! It's been crazy on your end with travel to Texas and everything else. The Delta data is being released and it's changing a thing or two like we expected. :(

Here's my thoughts after listening to the CDC panel the day they authorized the shot for the kids, trying to be brief. :)
Getting covid is not equal to getting protected by the vaccine, but let's ignore that. Getting covid does build antibodies to that illness. So if you've had covid, getting the covid shot may have your body react like it was actually the second dose, so if there is any concern re: myocarditis or MIS-C, your body is already in a heightened state of response. Having a covid infection makes you over 30x more likely to have myocarditis. So your doctor is likely worried about mild myocarditis being present but undetected already from covid infection. Would they do blood work to test? I think they're being a bit overly cautious, but I get it, because these are your babies we are talking about.

The guidelines have now changed you can get the vaccine immediately after your recovered from covid. My sister works in a hospital and she got covid and a few weeks after she had covid she was able to get the vaccine.

The folks I know that got the covid shot "soon" after having covid, had a terrible reaction to the vaccine. In my non professional opinion, I think what happened was, the body was exposed to the virus and fought it off, this then leads to antibodies being developed. When they got their covid shot, the antibodies saw the vaccine as a "threat" and attacked it, thus, making the symptoms of the vaccine a little rougher. I will add though, those who've had covid and have also been vaccinated (should) have a stronger resistance to the virus. If you go ahead with the vaccine, just watch him for a while to see how he's doing. I haven't known anyone to have life threatening effects from covid diagnosis + covid vaccine, just a much rougher recovery from getting the vaccine. One person said the recovery was worse than the covid itself, but they were also pregnant, so 🤷🏿♀️

I was fully vaccinated and I didn’t have any side affects from the vaccine, shortly after we caught covid. I think my symptoms were really mild but I don’t ever want to experience that again. I want to get the booster and I would love for all my kids to be able to be vaccinated soon. Thankfully the vaccine did its job and my symptoms were mild. I will say taking care of multiple kids with covid while I had covid was a little rough, I think mentally more so for me because I had in the back of my mind all the horrible things that could happen. Hopefully their pediatrician gives us the clear to go ahead with my sons covid vaccine and I’m going to reach out to my primary for their guidance since my ob seemed clueless.

@dontblockmesis-imjustspeakingfacts the vaccine definitely does it's job for catching covid after getting vaccinated. Unless someone had other underlying conditions, they did really well catching covid after they developed immunity from the vaccine. The symptoms you experienced could have also been due to your pregnancy, because pregnancy naturally suppresses the immune system a bit, maybe if you weren't pregnant the symptoms would have been even milder. Like jenx said, the guidelines have changed, so getting the vaccine after infection is fine

That's crazy. Here in Australia we have to wait 6 months to get the jab if we got covid
