Okay update. I dropped the kids off at school and they had to check their hair and they were good. I talked to the teacher and she said that they didn't have a case but that an older sibling had it and I guess the mom treated both kids. I was like oh but if you have a case do we get notified and she said no, it's a HIPPA violation. 🤯 I said how, I'm not asking for names and you don't even have to say it was in their class.

I feel like now the parents weren't told that their kids have been in contact and I'm ready to homeschool. She said everything is kept separate with covid going on. I feel like I'll be dealing with this again and I'm kinda annoyed. I don't want to seem like a crazy mom but I'm like should I call their doctor to see what the school is supposed to do.

When I worked in headstart a note when home if it was your classroom, grade, or in the school. It essentially let the parents know the risk level for their child getting lice. It was in EVERY kids folder. And the child who had it was quietly sent home to prevent any pointing fingers. We’ve always said “_____ isn’t feeling well” the kids never put the two together and the parents are too focused on “OMG lice” to even ask if someone went home sick.

I don’t think they know what a HIPAA violation is 😂. If it’s their policy ok. But it’s not HIPAA violation to let parents know there’s been lice (or positive corona cases for that matter) without telling them who had it. 🤦🏼‍♀️ are they also not going to tell parents if kids are exposed to the Rona?

I understand your annoyance. Many districts have stopped notifying when lice is detected in a classroom for several reasons. One, right now resources are stretched so thin with covid contact tracing and enforcing quarantine timelines that the nurse cannot devote time to head checks or letter notifications. Two, kids and parents absolutely figure out who the kids are and there is a stigma attached to that child and family moving forward. Three, although lice is absolutely DISGUSTING, it is not a health threat. It’s gross and inconvenient but that’s it. It doesn’t make you sick.

Honestly I was a decent human being and told them. I could have kept my kids out, not mentioned a thing and taken care of the problem and sent them to school Monday morning. They said they have been checking the kids heads which I find hard to believe because my child's head was FILLED. You're right, it isn't a health threat but as a family of 6 who just did all that I did this past weekend, it's something I dont really want to do every weekend. I have the spray, tea tree oil alcohol and lord knows what else and if it keeps happening we will have to decide what we want to do. Lice may not kill me but trying to get rid of it just might! Can't wait till next spring and summer for fleas! 🤢 preparation is key apparently.

@scidg3, Oh I agree with you and think it’s best practice to notify parents, I’m just explaining why it’s likely not happening especially right now with covid. Having lice in your house is horrible, I’ve already shared with you that we went through it. I hope none of your kiddos get it again!

Oh, and btw - a lot of parents never let us know about their child’s lice. They treat it (or not) and send them back without so much as a heads up. 😖 So thank you for letting your kids’ school know!

In my opinion this is a sign of a poorly run daycare. I am a speech pathologist by profession and have been on some really sketchy places that were barely passing inspections and those places always handled outbreaks poorly.

On a more personal level my daughter went to 3 separate daycares (including a home daycare) and everyone single one of them sent emails, posted signs, and spoke to parents (yes all 3!) when outbreaks occur. I would go with your gut and maybe find a new center for the kiddos

They are in preK at an elementary school. I talked to her again this afternoon because I just dont feel right about it. And she said due to HIPPA she can't notify the parents because they may be able trace it to my kids. She said if she sees one hopping around then she notifies the nurse, the nurse notifies the health department and the health department notifies the community or parents. She said it would be the same with a covid case.

What I find exhausting is that she can tell me in person (she said but I haven't had any positive cases) but can't send a note home! 🤔😤

@scidg3 wtf....that's even more shameful that it's a public school. I would absolutely call the superintendent office or the board of health (maybe both) and raise your concerns

@massgirl idk idk this is my first year, I can't be making my name known and my kids get sucky teachers. Lol I'm hoping that we can prevent getting it again and I'm going to talk to my husband tonight about it. I feel like they might have some crazy reason they do things the way they are. Idk idk.

That’s ridiculous. Wen I was a kid I had lice every damn other week. my mom used to soak my head in alcohol and put a bag over it and the bugs would be dead by the next day. People think Lice comes from people with dirty hair but actually lice like clean hair and that’s why it’s soo common and easy to get !

I used to work in a daycare center and when any type of illness of lice was detected, we posted a note on our door for parents to know as they came in. We never mentioned who it was but it was important to let parents know in order to stop any spread. It just seems negligent to me. It isn’t that hard to post up a paper with some information on what to look for and suggestions on how to treat.

Like how my friend told me daycare could never say which kid kept biting hers because it was a privacy violation. Wtf. I swore my kids would never go until they were old enough to tell me what was happening to them.

I remember having lice once as a kid...omg sooo much work for mom!!

I think they get so weird about it because when everyone figures out who the kid is who had it, they are treated horribly and made fun of and places have gotten in a lot of trouble. I know when I was managing the rehab dept in a nursing home and there was an outbreak, it was absolute top level knowledge who had brought it into the home because of backlash.

It really sucks. One person brought bed bugs into the assisted living when they moved from home and it was an absolute nightmare for 2 months.

Personally, what I just delt with, I could care less about who or when.... it could have been a kid in their building. I want to know so I can prevent. Not telling ppl will only cause an infestation. They claimed to be checking the kids every so often and as many as my kid had, that was not a weeks worth! Parents deserve to know and no names need to be attached. Parents have no clue whats going on in the school anyway with Covid going on. I'm about to personally email the parents if they don't! Lol

@scidg3 I totally get it. Like your whole house and all your kids and pets could have it before you find out. It's a freaking nightmare!!! They need to come up with a system, like a text to the entire school district so it is anonymous. I'd rather check my kid's head for a week and it was a kid in high school than not know at all and have a whole house infestation.

Places get insanely weird about it these days.

Since when is that a hippa violation? All they do is a send a note saying lice was detected in someone's hair, no names or anything.

@scream.queen well I talked to a friend and they send out messages too and she said we withing is cleaned ASAP. I feel like this was my schools first case and they don't know how to handle it. It is odd. I have very mixed emotions about this school system.

@supermomof4 I can understand that. I remember when I was in elementary school everyone knew who had lice because they'd get sent home after the head check and kids would bully whoever was sent home. I think they should at least notify the class that someone has it.

Ответить

m00my2five

StephanieМама четверых детей

@leahh I could see that, totally see that in older kids. Not so much preK. I'm pretty sure my kids marched in saying they had bugs in their hair this weekend and all their friends would want to see. Shoot they could even say the child isn't in the class but your child came in contact! Lol

I know how they treat it now and I will definitely be taking it a lot more seriously than they do.

I’ve dealt with this also. They won’t tell you. I have said the same things over before about just giving a heads up. Fairy tales makes a daily spray on that keeps the lice from getting in their hair and I started using that on my girl. She never got sent home last year for it. The year before we had a horrible time because a girl in her class wasn’t being treated properly and it never went away so my daughter would catch it over and over.

Ответить

m00my2five

Ответить

I put straight up tea tree oil in their hair. Idk if that's what keeps it away or if i need to buy the spray but I don't want to deal with it again and I feel like it's common either at schools or this school

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

So idk if I’m an asshole for thinking this but a girl I used to go to school with is having her 3rd kid and she’s planning a baby shower and she had one with her other two. I feel like a baby shower is something you do with ur first pregnancy. I live far from my family so I didn’t have one but i did have a baby registry and I’m not even doing that with this pregnancy. Idk I just feel like 3 baby showers is a lot! Especially when she gets things handed to her. Idk maybe I’m an ass for thinking that
