What are good hair products that I can use to tame his curls when it has nothing in it his hair is a mess and i love his curls so I don’t wanna cut them and I don’t wanna ruin his hair by putting the wrong stuff he is biracial

my son is almost 1 & his hair is getting crazy & curly, & i wanna get it lined up & cleaned up sooo bad. idk if his hair is too thin to do that with yet, i don’t wanna cut off all his curls (i’m leaving the curls at the top) but it’s going in all directions and growing so fast! Ok, ladies (especially those with hair experience) I want to change up my hair. The two pics on the left are for curl pattern purposes-that's my natural curl. The picture on the right is what I want to do. I'm fairly certain the models hair has some curling iron retouching and a lot of product, but do you think it's possible that my hair and curl could hold that cut without it being high maintenance? My hair is boob length now and I spend a lot of time styling it because it's too hot and heavy to wear down.
I don't know why it pisses me off that my mother in law is always saying something about my sons hair. I'm not cutting it so stfu. I love his curls. His hair is actually all the way down to the middle of his back.

This picture shows her curls better the coconut oil keep them from getting dried and out and don’t wash his hair with shampoo but conditioner instead. Shampoo will dry her hair out and make his curl frizzy
