Ok, ladies (especially those with hair experience) I want to change up my hair. The two pics on the left are for curl pattern purposes-that's my natural curl. The picture on the right is what I want to do. I'm fairly certain the models hair has some curling iron retouching and a lot of product, but do you think it's possible that my hair and curl could hold that cut without it being high maintenance? My hair is boob length now and I spend a lot of time styling it because it's too hot and heavy to wear down.

I just found a Deva Cut stylist right down the road from me! I'm waiting for her to call me back... I think I'm going to go short finally!

That is the style (picture) I saved to cut my hair in a month. I am so scared but I will do it ?

Нравится Ответить

I didn't know that, I'll start using a t-shirt as well maybe it'll help my frizz.

Нравится Ответить

It sure is?

I use a t shirt. An old, well worn cotton one. My old hairdresser recommended it years ago and it's one of the best tips ever for curly hair.

Do you dry your hair with a micro towel or teeshirt? Works best for less frizz.

I don't own a brush either, ice. I use a wide tooth comb in the shower to comb conditioner through, but I haven't actually brushed my hair since I was little. People with straight hair are always surprised by that. Lol

Нравится Ответить

I finger comb knots out while I condition in the shower. I do not own a brush at all.

I use my hands to run product through-kind of scrunching as I go-and I always flip it over and shake to lift the roots a bit. You guys are definitely providing the support I need to chop it all off!

Нравится Ответить

My curls are tighter and more defined when my hair is shorter. I love it! I wouldn't suggest straightening and then recurling like someone suggested - too much work & my hair never holds the curl after being straightened. Comb it out, add some mousse & you're good to go!

Oh my gosh I was just asking my husband if I could pull off the hair cut from the exact same picture on the right lol

Thanks, Nes! ?. I go back and forth with the Shea line, ice. I feel like it builds up quickly. Brocato is my favorite line for products because they're created to be thinned out with water or mixed with conditioner/other products to adjust hold level.

Нравится Ответить

Definitely okay to product and go. Lucky! My curls need the diffuser to look good. I say go for it ☺️

You guys are so cute. I love your hair.

Shea moister line is my best friend so far lol.

I do use product in it, if I didn't it would be a huge wad of frizz. I don't use heat on it at all, with the exception of an occasional blow out. I used to straighten it frequently, but the damage was lasting. I need a style that I can wash, run some product through and head out the door. Sounds like this style might be perfect for that.

I have curly hair and I cut it like this probably 2ish months ago and I have seriously never in my life been so happy with a hair cut. It's so cute and so easy and it looks cute straight or curly. It looks good even when you know it could look better. Love it and I fought doing it for years. No regrets. Seriously.

Нравится Ответить

Blow dryers and heat products on curls are your worst enemies.

Нравится Ответить

Oh. I also style it two ways. My hair is mixed type so sometimes I put oil in after I was let it dry and rock the big hair style.

Or I scrunch it with gel and mousse.

I also cut it curly not straight because I want to be comfortable with it curly. I know I'll like it straight.

Нравится Ответить

I am a stylist, I say go for it. I've done this cut on curly hair before and it's super cute!! If you wear your hair straight and curly I'd go in with it straight and have them cut dry. If they say they "can't" that's BS and go to a different stylist. Otherwise have them style it after and make sure you like how it looks straight. If it looks good that way it will look good curly*. (Just reread your OP and no, it wouldn't be harder to style. Just mousse/gel and a shine/frizz preventer and scrunch ?)

It was definitely a defining moment for me lol.

I was 6 weeks PP and I needed a drastic change.

I colored my hair but it wasn't enough so I figured chopping off 10-12 inches would suffice. Lol.

I had more confidence in myself and my SO than the hairstylist. They always mess up curly hair.

You're braver than me, mamabear. I wouldn't even attempt to cut my own. I know my limitations and that is definitely one of them.

Нравится Ответить

Try drying your hair with a diffuser. Use some product to hold the curl

Нравится Ответить

I cut my own hair.

I YouTube cutting a Bob.

I put my hair in a ponytail pulled the hair around my ears a little and chopped the ponytail off. I had a real nice long in the front short in the back Bob.

Since my hair is curly it's hard to see any indiscretions or uneven lines.

I wanted it shorter so I did it again I messed up but my SO finished the back for me and made it straight. I love my hair and I spent no money on it.

I know.. i still have yet to see or go to one. It is pricy. I have a fear of doing it myself but am tempted.

I do not want to go to a person whom has little to no clue about my hair and just straight chop it into a bulk or pyramid. I have spirally curls.

The devacurl salons near me all charge an arm and a leg to cut, I'm talking $100+, but I am impressed with the results they achieve. I just can't justify that price.

Нравится Ответить

My hair is curlier and I cut it about that length it works for me I love it because I can get up and go.

Нравится Ответить

You can pull it off.

I have curly hair, and it just cut it to above my shoulders. I use garnier fructise wavey curl spray gel to tame my hair

Нравится Ответить

Look into Divacut stylist.

It shapes your head/curls and they cut with dry hair so that they do not cut too much off while hair is wet. Wet curls are usually elongated.

Нравится Ответить

I love naturally curly hair shorter. I think it's pretty I'm back stacked like the picture!

Нравится Ответить

I think you could pull this off. I would recommend using mousse to hold the curl and tame any frizz(idk how humid it is in your area) also someone who works often on curly hair would be a great idea. People who don't have curly hair think just anyone can do it, butbits pretty difficult

I think as long as I can find a stylist who understands curl shrinkage, I should be ok. Losing my stylist of 15 years when we moved cross country was seriously traumatizing. Thanks, ladies.

I have curly hair, similar to yours. I follow this and it gives me crazy volume and curl. For the first hour or so after my volume is crazy too much, but it calms down to similar to the picture.

Absolutely. My hair has. Similar curl to yours. I cut it short a month ago and love it. It is very easy to manage. I just put in a little curl cream then some mousse to hold the curl a bit.m and it lasts all day. Let it air dry or I use the deva curl diffuser just to get dry the roots a bit. Good luck. You'll look great!!

Нравится Ответить

Yes pookie I think it does make a difference, usually if they cut it dry they will straighten it up a bit first to see what they are doing exactly. The reason is because when it's wet, it's so much longer & if they do it dry they don't have that shrinkage factor.

I actually have quite a few layers, they're just long. The top pic was heavily layered (obviously) but I grew it out when I was pregnant. I need the layers lifted desperately, but haven't found a stylist I trust enough to do it. If anyone lives in the low desert area of SoCal and knows a stylist that's good with curls, I'll take those recommendations as well. Lol. I've never had mine cut dry, awesome, did you notice a difference?

Нравится Ответить

I think yours would look similar although not exact due to how much they have retouched these curls with a curling iron. I have curly hair too & I get pretty good results with a diffuser and scrunching with a good mousse, and the frizz ease serum. I would go to someone who really knows what they are doing with curly hair & take this pic with you. Sometimes they will cut mine dry. Depends on that particular stylists technique.

Нравится Ответить

You could get your hair cut in lots of choppy layers to help take the weight off.

The length of my hair definitely pulls out the curl-it's curliest when it's short (it's even curlier in the top pic because it's about 6 inches shorter than the bottom). I just don't want to cut it and then spend just as much time keeping it styled as I do now with it so long.

Нравится Ответить

I hear a lot of times they straighten the hair out an recurl it. I have hair like yours, although it is a perm it does look like yours. I mouse it and I use this conditioning gel made by garner that works well. Sometimes if the day is really humid I'll use hair spray. Then at the end of the day I condition all the product out. And use some leave in conditioner to keep it healthy.
