When can baby have whole milk? My little guy has moved on pretty much to real food, still some baby food and nurses a lot as well. He has been stealing his sisters food 😂. My question is, when is it okay to give 1 3-4oz serving of whole milk a day? Of course I wouldn’t stop breastfeeding, but I don’t see how it could hurt as he is eating pretty much everything else. (I work 5 hours a day and he eats food during this time, but I thought instead of a breast milk bottle I could start having regular milk during this time only).
He’s too young but you can start introducing dairy by giving him yogurt and cheese and see how he does. Then after 12 months you can give him cow’s milk.
It’s best to wait until their first birthday because cow milk is a lot harder to digest than breastmilk or formula which are both designed for human babies. Cow milk can cause irritation of the digestive organs, even microscopic bleeding, before they’re ready. If you want to supplement your breastmilk, formula would be a better choice.
Thanks guys! I honestly gave him milk for a few (3) days, just one serving though, but will now buy formula. I’ve been having a hard time pumping at work and at home I can’t pump much at all- it just won’t come out like it used to. He definitely gets a bunch when breastfeeding though. I’m sure he will be fine, but I definitely don’t want to hurt his belly. We will wait until 1.
