FTM Advice!

My son is getting worse and worse at putting himself to sleep. Since about 4 months he would put himself to sleep for naps and bed by crying for maybe 5 minutes and then relax and put himself to sleep. Now suddenly it’s taking a half an hour of crying and screaming to fall asleep. I was fine with with the crying when it was easy and for only a few minutes but this is heartbreaking to me. I have given in a few times now and just picked him out of the crib but then he falls asleep in my arms and naps there instead which isn’t a habit we want to start.

What do I do? Is it just a sleep regression we have to ride out?

I've never been able to let my baby cry it out. Just wasnt for me. If you're babys crying and you want to pick him up, go right ahead. Also, when you do decide to let them cry it out, I dont think you're supposed to let them go for very long. I'm no expert but I remember reading many times to only do it for a few minutes at a time, a half hour being far too long

We do go in to check on him and calm him down every few minutes.

My son had the hardest time falling asleep till jus a couple months ago. I would put on Moshi and jus rub his back or tummy till he fell asleep. Now he falls asleep on his own.

He also could maybe not be tired yet? I made that mistake and I realized he might not be ready so I’d let him get up for a bit more read to him or something calm and then try again.

SLEEP TRAINING So.. we hired a sleep consultant to try to help our baby soothe himself to sleep and we got a sleep training plan for him. It's basically putting him down in his crib, sound machine on, and letting him cry for 3 minutes before going into the room to comfort him. The plan is to repeat this until he falls asleep by himself (which I believe will take us the whole night, if we are lucky) I tried something similar when he was about 2 months old. I started at 7 pm and gave in at 2 am with an angry, exhausted baby. At that point we were both crying! 😭 Some of you told me he was too young to attempt anything. Here I am, 2 months later, still bedsharing and nursing to sleep. I still wonder what is best for him and if he is still too little to make him go through that stress, even if it's 3 minutes at a time. Anyone who's been through this? I'd appreciate your comments.
