I want to start a serious discussion. One where there is no judgement, no name calling just honesty and compassion. Remember, everyone is dealing with a demon you don't know about.
I was told by a friend of 11 years today that she hates being a mom. I know she loves her daughter because I've witnessed the love for the child's whole life. (I'm the godmother)
I guess my question is, does anyone else feel this way too? I'm not judging my friend whatsoever. She is a great person who can bring a smile to your face no matter what! She just feels so depressed and I've never seen her like this. 😰
I have had those feelings. But they were more so towards, the responsibility of being a mom. It was worse when my daughter was first born because I had postpartum depression and she was crazy gassy so she cried like 90% of the time 😩.. I had to fight those thoughts and feelings away and out of my head constantly and with all my might.. It’s hard though. And I’ve always wanted to be a mom and never saw myself experiencing this. I never really went out and did much before I got pregnant, but now that I can’t if I wanted to spur moment, it would make me feel a way. And to top it off, I’m a single mom so I do it on my own and I’m not able to go back to work yet and so it gets super overwhelming. So I understand those feelings, even while loving your babies with every fiber of your being.
Also for the comment about doing things you loved doing. I really miss being able to go get lunch then randomly go to salon then go randomly hang out at friends. Now it's all planning around nap time, diapers and the dang carseat! I hate that thing! That's why I'm surprised my friend is having such hard times with her 5 year old because they're so much more independent and you dont need car seats or diapers or stuff like that but I guess stress is at every age!
I had horrible PPD when I had my twins, worse then it was when I had my first son. I never in my entire life wanted 3 kids. Never wanted to be a stay at home mom either. Being a mom is the hardest job and it is 24/7. I just feel like after having 3 I had to throw away my life and all the things I loved and loved doing. So it's still causing me major depression and anger at times. I have cabin fever bad. I just miss life. I never thought I'd be stuck home so much ever. I've been seeing a therapist, and it helps a bit to have someone to talk to, because I have no one else really. Also my BFFL also does not like being a mother but I know she also loves her kids. How can you not. I love mine to. I know I will miss them when I move out
@smchevy3 no everyone calls our baby sitter super woman, no one has ever called me that. So thank you I really appreciate it. Since I have been dealing with my PPD and my bad back and arms, no one has had any nice words for me, just because I don't want to be on medication. But I think I am significantly better then I was 6 months ago.
@ladyfreyja you can message and talk to me anytime girl!
When my teenager is bitching for the 120th day in a row about dinner while talking back about everything else 🙄🙄🙄🙄. Not so much enjoying being a mom. No.
Yikes! My mom says that the baby years and the toddler years will be the years you wish you got back when they're teens lmao!
I really enjoy being a mom but damn it’s EXHAUSTING. It’s a 24/7 job. Constant worry and constant responsibility. I don’t always love it but I always love my babies.
I'm 99% my sister hates being a mom. The only reason that there is that 1%doubt is because I'm not in her head and she hasn't said it out loud. She leaves her daughter at before and after care at her school for the maximum time and spends about 10-15 hours total with her 5 days out of the week. Every weekend my niece is with my mother from Friday to Sunday evening. My parents take my niece on summer vacations while my sister vacations multiple times a years without her daughter. I've never seen her kiss her. She's sometimes harsh with her words and discipline. My niece gets her motherly love from my mother and I. My sister never wanted to be a mom. Her plans out of high school were to be a financer and travel the world. She became pregnant her junior year of college with a guy she was barely dating two months and decided to keep my niece. My niece is fed and clothed and taken care of financially but she acts out for attention and it's attention that she's craving from her mother but doesn't get.
Wow! Goes on vacations without her? That's really sad but also heartwarming that your parents are right there to catch her before she falls and does so much for her! And I'm sure you as an Aunt is phenomenal. Sorry her mom is so indifferent but you guys seem like dreams come true
I had severe PPD with my second child. I resented her so much. I never understood why. I loved her but I resented her. I had this feeling until she was almost 2. I hated myself for it and for ever feeling that way.
I suffer from anxiety and depression so I should've seen the signs that I had PPD (I never thought about hurting her just resented her)
Since I never had expression of harm, I never gotten help though I should've.
I breastfed until 15 months and the unbalance of hormones are known to affect depression especially when you wean.
@nerdymommyplus2 I have severe anxiety and depression. The stuff is horrible
@smchevy3
It really is difficult especially as a mother. My mom had bipolar depression and she spent the majority of my childhood in bed. I don't want to be like that
I remember I told my mom I didn’t want to be a mom anymore when I had my daughter who is now 5. She told me to leave my daughter with her and go get some rest. I now hate ever saying it. Your friend may need time to herself.. I mean we all do. Being a mom is really a full time job.
I told my mom the same thing when my son was 6 months old. She told me to go to sleep for 12 hours and tell me how ya feel then. Needless to say, I regretted it!
@smchevy3, and honestly that’s all it really is, we all just need a break, sleep, peace & quiet!! I wish there was a moms group that would be willing to take turns with kids. We ALL deserve it.. being a mom is overwhelming
@oneishaivo I would gladly do stuff like that. I would love for Jax to have other babies to play with! I dont really like him around her daughter because she is sort of a brat.... and Jax Is at that sponge age
I really really wanted to be a mom and I love my babies more than anything in the world, but if I could go back, I would never have had kids. 🤷🏻♀️
She could have PPD. If she is telling ppl she has depression then she needs help. She could be wanting help and doesn’t know how to get it.
Not trying to sound stupid or anything but can you have PPD with a 5 year old?
@smchevy3, at that point they give it a different term and I forget what it is but it’s all due to hormones. She could have had it for years and not realize it as well.
Thank you girls for your honesty. It's always nice to know people understand. I've tried to relate but she insists a 5 year old is way more difficult than a 15month old so yeah... I kind of got offended because I nannied for several families before having my son and I feel like any age before 7 is difficult but what do I know 😑
I’d say it’s depression causing her to think she hates being a mum. Xx
Sometimes I don't like it but id never hate it. Most moms have their days that they are overwhelmed and are like what I get myself in to but never hate it. Maybe she's depressed. Maybe other things are making her feel this way and she just needs time to herself I'm not sure. I feel like a shitty mom when I feel down and feel as though maybe I shouldn't have had kids but never hate them I love them with all my heart. Also would never hate being a mom because their ate so many great things. Maybe remind her of it. I can understand though.
I'd have to say that I relate to that. I dont hate being a mom i hate that my son got me as a mom. Wow... I've never admited that to anyone 🙄
I sometimes feel this way. Not necessarily that I hate being a mom, because I love my kids more than anything and I LOVE being a mom. But sometimes I get overwhelmed with two kids, my oldest has been acting out a lot lately since we brought his brother home & i just wanna run away sometimes. Or I just beat myself to death thinking I’m not meant to be a mom and I’m doing a horrible job.
I saw your post. My son is 15 months and was slapping himself when I would tell him no about something or take something away he shouldn't have had. We learned putting gloves on him and making him go to Time out in the pack n play for 10 min with no distractions really made a difference. Hes maybe done it once in the past week and that's very good progress for us!
Being a mom is hard. It's harder for me now then it was when i was 19. I don't hate my kids but sometime when it's been a hard day and they won't stop I can feel myself getting mad. You said her marriage is making her depressed them she needs to get out
Easier said than done unfortunately. She's with someone whose abusive and hes never been like that when I'm there but I know she isnt a liar.
She has told me she has depression but back in HS she never showed signs. I think her marriage is making her depressed
You either hate being a mom or you don’t.
You can hate it for many reasons but mainly because that’s not what you want to do in life and you’d rather do other things.
Or you are suffering from a mental illness causing you to believe you hate it.

My sweet baby girl gained her angel wings this morning. She was my best friend, my true love my everything. She was so happy and beautiful, I'm struggling to say good bye. Sleep tight princess, mummy and daddy love you very very much ❤️

is it wrong to be frustrated that my daughter acts like she can't do certain things with out my help. she plays dumb a lot and I wish I could be like no girl show what you know. she acts like she can't trace or match shapes so shes ask for "mommy finger" to help her so I barely hold her hand and she magically can do it but if I dont hold her hand she just scribbles and acts like she doesnt know
the pic is how she traces when I'm "helping her" otherwise it'll just be scribbles all over the page

Ok I know I've done a few of these but my friend posted this on FB and we're getting some hilarious results. This was my last text:
It's way more common than you think.
