First night at home last night and we ended up co_sleeping as baby hates being put down. I'm happy that I did my research and did it safely but will my midwife tell me off? I actually got more sleep last night than when we were in the hospital with a team of people helping!

I think you have to do what works for you as long as you do the research and follow all the rules. However as far as I understand it is safer for them to be in their own bed next to you. Maybe look at the next2me cribs xx
Doona ··
We did, our bedroom is too small and we can't fit one next to the bed unfortunately 😩 xx
Casey·
She will probably tell you the textbook advice as that’s what they have to do but as long as you’re happy with your research that’s all that matters

My midwife we great about us Co sleeping, she advised us on the best way to do it she did tell was the that we were meant to put him in his own crib, next to the bed but when we explained that that wasn't working and none of us were sleeping because all Theo wanted to do at night was feed and I was sore and exhausted, she was very understanding! My health visitor, not so much. She is still on at me to this day about the fact that we cosleep, but she's also telling me I need to stop breastfeeding because it's weird and babies get nothing from it after 12 months 😂
Just go with it, let them advise you but essentially it's up to you. They aren't there at 3 in the morning when you're exhausted and the baby is screaming and I think if they have kids then they will understand that x
Casey··
Oh my god! Your health Visitor said extended breastfeeding was weird? There are so many benefits to extended feeding! They get goodness no matter their age! I was devastated my little boy stopped at 15 months would push me away and laugh in my face 😕 I would have fed him much longer
theodoresmammy··
oh yeah, she told me 'he gets nothing from it, there's absolutely no nutritional value to it now that he's one so it's a bit weird that he's still feeding, your only doing it for yourself now' 😂 she was reported x
Casey··
good she should be reported! That is not factual information at all! Most of his calories will come from food but he will get soooooo much from you still including some calories, hydration, comfort, ability to fight disease loads of benefits. I work with health visitors and they would be disgusted hearing that

I slept with Charlie until six months ago and Oliver now sleeps with me most nights :)
Doona ··
Did you midwife or hv say anything? Owen is very clingy and wouldn't sleep unless someone was holding him the whole time we were in hospital! Xx
Maya··
no hun they didn’t and to be honest they will give you their opinion etc oh dear my hv was very very opinionated but if you want to co sleep for a while etc just do it he is your child and you do what you want to do xx

Noah sleeps with me cos he hates being put down only time he'll sleep on his own is in his pram but he won't settle in his Moses basket... I didn't tell midwife and haven't told health visitor cos they'll just lecture me on why it's so wrong for baby to be in bed with me so if any1 asks he sleeps in his Moses basket 🤷🏼♀️ lol... do what's right for u xx
Georgina·
Congratulations!
Do you want to co sleep?
Just my experience, all three where difficult to settle on coming home, I put it down to being new to the world as they’re used to being inside us so it’s all new. I did persevere for a couple nights, after that they got used to the basket and it got easier. Do what’s best for you though xx
Doona ··
I really haven't decided yet. I'm getting him used to his moses basket in the day downstairs as he's better at napping during the day. I'm just going to straight up ask my midwife today for some advice xx

Georgina is right they are very clingy when they first come out, I had a c section and it was very difficult for me to pick baby from the next to me crib and feed him but I was also very scared from all the stories you hear about co sleeping so first few days were difficult but then he adapted to his crib. 6 monhs later though he started sleeping in our bed and still is here! As long as you do your research, make it safe you for baby you will be fine x my mother co slept with all of us and in our communities thats what they usually do.

I slept downstairs with lil one for 3 weeks (it was just easier than being upstairs when he was cluster feeding most of the night , I could watch my recordings, have a cuppa , snack etc) then it was my hv that suggested co sleeping then at least we could get into a bed and get some sleep , I did that for a few weeks now he goes in his Moses basket at about 12-1am till 5am then in my bed for a feed and a cuddle till about 7-7.30am xx

Midwife just left. She said that they don't recommend Co sleeping as he would be safer in his own space but that as long as I am following the guidelines for safe Co sleeping to just do what works best for me. Like she said, I'm the one that's up with him in the middle of the night and if I sleep better then I can care for him better!

I cosleep with my boy. He has never liked to sleep alone. As long as you’re doing it safely and you’re happy, do what you like. It’s definitely easier to breastfeed cosleeping also. My HV said I was okay to do it as long as I followed the guidelines like no drinking alcohol and smoking and baby has their own blanket and not against a wall xx
