Its not necessary to check any one at all. It tell you nothing about your pregnancy other then your cervix is opening it doesn't give thw doctor any sign of the baby coming cause you could be dilated for weeks even months and nothing and it can put you at risk for infection
I have been to all my appointments and my last one was last Monday and never checked me once. Even went to pre-op yesterday and in the 3 hours I was there, nothing :(
They did with my before every C-section. Even tho my surgery was scheduled they wanted to make sure they didn't have to take baby sooner if I was dilated.
They gotta make sure your not already in labor. It's happened before to my sister in law. She went in for her c section and they were like your already 4 cm. Then 10 minutes later her water broke and she ended up having baby vaginally.

They did not with me. Right before my C section they did an ultrasound to see if the babies were head down that's it
