So I had my IUD removed in May of 2017 and we have been TTC ever since. I had a chemical pregnancy in September of 2017 and no luck since then. I finally went to the doc and all my blood work came back normal.
So get this.
I went in for an HSG today. The doc called me a little while ago. APPARENTLY THERE IS STILL AN IUD IN MY UTERUS. Wtf?!? How??? My mind is boggled.
I had a paragard put in back in 2008 after I had my daughter. Several years later, I had it replaced with the Mirena. How in the world do I still have an IUD in there?? If I do... I suppose that explains our infertility.
Has this ever happened to anyone else?!? My mind is blown.
I went to the doctor today and a midwife tried to remove the IUD. She wasn’t able to get it out. She called me while later and said the gals at the office reviewed my case and it looks like the IUD still in me is the paragard that I asked to have removed in 2012 to be replaced with the mirena. Sounds like the doc that went to replace the paragard never actually took it out and put a mirena in on top of it... so for a while I had two IUDs in place.
So now I go back on the 29th for a doctor to try to remove it with the aid of an ultrasound. If that doesn’t work, then surgery is the only other option... and that doesn’t sound cheap.
I’m so frustrated right now, it’s hard to not cry. I’m relieved that our infertility issues don’t seem to stem from any biological issues but I’m frustrated that this shouldn’t have been an issue to begin with. None of the docs or midwives from this office seem to have ever heard of this happening so it’s equally as mind boggling for them. But now I can narrow it down to when it happened.
So my sil had a similar experience. She wanted hers removed. Doctor didn't read the chart fully. But when he went in to remove it "it was gone" he said he couldn't find it and it must've fallen out according to him. Sil was good with that. Struggled to conceive for almost 2 years and when she did it was an ectopic. And the scan revealed her iud was displaced for sure. As it was a tech not a doctor she had to wait to have the iud removed till the next week. Odd situation, completely mind boggling. But it happens I understand dictors are people too but need to pay closer attention.
@beakymcspence, i hadnt had any previous scans that would have shown the iud still in there. It doesn’t make any sense to me either. They haven’t pulled it out yet, but I have an appointment for that on Thursday. Hopefully then I can get some answers. I have no idea how this happened. The nurse that called me even brought up the doctors notes from my visit when I had the IUD removed and noted that it was to be removed and not replaced.
@kspalinger, So you had an HSG done with no scan..? Also makes no sense.
Where do they claim the IUD is...if they were in there and found one displaced they would never leave it and schedule you to come back another day...sorry absolutely none of it makes any sense at all. I’m blown away and as a medical professional can make zero sense of it lol I’ve had an IUD and HSG myself it’s completely a whacky situation 🤨 #MindBlown
