I am losing my friggin mind. My 3.5 week old boy acts like he’s starving after every feeding. He’ll eat for about 20-30 min and then fall asleep for 15 min or so and then wake up like he hasn’t had anything to eat all day. I can’t keep going like this. He won’t take a bottle of formula to give me a break. My nipples are sooo sore and all I want to do is cry. Feeling like a massive failure right now.

Take a shower, hold the baby and let the water run on his back. My 1month does always wants to eat and whenever I need a break from my nipples being sore I shower with her and it calms her down and she'll actually sleep after for 1-2hrs.

It sounds like he's cluster feeding to up your supply more. The first six weeks are super demanding while the baby works to regulate your supply. This is the time where you are literally trapped on the couch for hours with a baby latched on feeding nonstop. Just keep a big bottle of water and some nutritious snacks nearby and use it as an excuse to binge watch your favorite show.

He will calm down soon and then just go through spurts here and there moving forward, but your body will be more acclimated to it by then. To ease the soreness, coat your nipples in breastmilk when he takes a break, and let them air dry. Use skin to skin to get him to sleep a few minutes longer in between feeds.

Good luck, Momma.

It sounds like it’s more of a comfort feeding than anything mama, but growth spurts and developmental leaps can cause the constant desire to feed. I know it doesn’t help, but it will pass!! Hang in there! Definitely try other soothing methods- babywearing was a lifesaver for me, the swing/bouncer, pacifier, etc.

Its okay to take a break from nursing for an hour if you can find a way to soothe him. Swaddled, skin to skin, worn in wrap on a walk. Make sure you use nipple cream when you do get a break.

I can imagine how alone you feel but thanks for all your hubby does 🤗 im sure he'd rather be at home most days.

@kambam, nope. He’s very picky like his father. Who is busy working and being a hero to other families as a firefighter. Which I love but I also need him here for times like this.

Will he take a paci at all? I felt like that until 8w almost. Sucks but imagine how they feel. Aliens in this new world, they only know mom ❤

@gypsymomma I think it's an app. I actually didn't hear about it until my son was way passed that stage, but I know people swear by it.

It gets easier! Can you pump? Maybe he will take a bottle of breast milk? My son would not drink formula from a bottle but would drink my milk.

It's normal. Look up the wonder weeks, it's supposed to have a bunch of great information. Have you seen a lactation consultant to make sure he has a good latch? Your nipples will toughen up soon hopefully. 💜
