Cord blood / cord tissue banking??
Cord blood / cord tissue banking... is anyone going to go ahead with this? I want to but I’m not sure about which bank to use and if I should spend the extra $$ on cord tissue ? any thoughts? I’m in between ViaCord and Cryo-Cell.... ViaCord isolates the stem cells from the cord tissue prior to freezing and cry-cell just freezes the whole tissue ???
Thanks Amanda, did you also store the cord tissue? For blood only I’m leaning to Cryo-Cell... but if I do the tissue... I’m leaning towards viocord because they extract the cells and store cells which supposedlyare more stable than tissue... also, all the cord stem cell research is done with fresh cord tissue stem cells.....so I’m not sure if they could actually extract stem cells from frozen tissue
We chose Cryo-Cell for mainly three reasons as both Cryo-cell and Viacord are two of the best companies for cord blood banking. Cryocell is the oldest company and, therefore, has a longstanding reputation in the industry. Second, it offers the highest engraftment guarantee out of all the companies at $100,000. Third, it is the only company using the industry leading technology of PrepaCyte-CB, which leads the industry in engraftment times and success. You won't go wrong with either company though. Both are great choices.
Also, I'm sure you're already aware but you can do both delayed cord clamping and cord blood banking (I know many people think you can't and decide not to bank for this reason). You can delay cord clamping for 90 seconds and still bank--more than 90 seconds doesn't show any additional positive effects anyway.
I decided to use ViaCord because they extract stem cells from cord tissue prior to freezing... there’s no good data that shows that stem cells can be extracted after years of having frozen a tissue
