Any helpful advice for me to help ease the pain? I'm pregnant and still breastfeeding my 19 month old, but I cry every time because my nipples are hurting so badly, and my daughter wants to be on them 24/7.

@jenloveee3, breastfeeding until two is actually healthy, some extend past that. Tandem nursing is also something op can do if she’d like. Many moms do it.

@jenloveee3 she's looking for pain reliever advice not when she should wean.

Have you tried a nipple shield? I haven’t bf while pregnant but I know it keeps them off your nipple

@jenloveee3, the World Health Organization would disagree with this advice. As would I.

@snowy_owl9, I am still nursing my 2 1/2 year old. I self wean and it’s been tapering so I think we are nearing the end. I find relief with making them relatch it they are being lazy and lanolin cream has been helpful too.

I know extended breastfeeding is still met with some resistance so if you ever have questions or need to vent about the frustrations, I’m available for you 💜

@oddie I don't plan on stopping anytime soon, and I will probably be tandem feeding when #2 arrives, thank you so much for your advice I really appreciate it!

josefa

Josefa

@snowy_owl9, not about forcing but kids dont need to be breasfed that much, she can perfectly have cows milk now and if ita bothering you...🤷‍♀️ but its up to you. I've seen kids be breastfed till they are 5yrs old cause their mothers didnt want to "force" them off but personally i think it's not necessary. Yes you can do whatever u want. just saying my opinion

@snowy_owl9, I have tandem nursed with some of my sons. I’m here for you! 😊💜

snowy_owl9

@josefa why would I give her breast milk from a cow? Meaning its meant for a cows baby. My human milk is all she needs and its far better for her. Have you seen what the do to cows and their calves to get milk for people? The conditions they are kept in? That is one thing I will not be giving my child. My milk changes to fit her needs, cows milk cannot do that 🤷🏽

@josefa, cows milk doesn’t hold a candle to human milk. Did you know that scientifically speaking, as you kiss your baby and lick your lips, your body responds by sending the specific antibodies to your breastmilk? Thus, breastmilk never ceases to have value. In many cultures it is quite the norm for a child of five or under to nurse.

Of course, it is also okay to choose not to. There’s many ways to parent but thought perhaps you would like to be a bit informed as to why it is and always will be of benefit to a child.

In fact, if it wasn’t weird, I’d add a shot of it to my smoothies for life lol!

I mean, it is amazing! It can cure pink eye. Breastmilk is like food and medicine that our bodies just create! So cool

josefa

Josefa

@snowy_owl9, @oddie, lol i know it is better...i breastfed my child but hey she's 1 and a half now and she has cow's milk and its okay!!!! fed is best, have you heard about that? I mean, you can breastfeed till your tits fall off and thats ok with me lol but if you are suffering from it because it hurts you so much ...im just saying you also have other opitons that are OK

Congrats on being able to feed while pregnant @snowy_owl9 🤗 unfortunately some women dry up due to pregnancy. If it's hurting, like a pp said, it could be a poor latch. 19 mos old are wild little things, maybe she's not being gentle? Maybe though it might benefit you to cut back on feeds? Only thing is that it'll decrease your supply though, especially with being pregnant. I also second breast creams, lanolin is good because it's not harmful. Are your nipples cracking or are they just hurting?

snowy_owl9

snowy_owl9

@sweetsap88 hurting

sweetsap

The lanolin should work like chapstick for nipples, but it wouldn't hurt to try the olive or coconut oil, see if you get some relief from that

@oddie, I don’t care who doesn’t agree with my advice. She asked for advice on a public website and I gave her my advice.

@snowy_owl9, no disrespect at all. You’re taking it way too personal. Idk what solutions you’re trying to look for. Or what “advice” .. keep her on your boob than. You’re the one in pain not me ✌🏼

@jenloveee3 was for relief of sore boobs, and I will keep her on the boob😂

@josefa I've heard of breast is best but fed is required and I live by that. 🤷

@sweetsap88 they could just be hurting cuz my last pregnancy my nipples hurt so bad from the beginning.

josefa

Josefa

@jaygirls, yeah well its a new saying

snowy_owl9

snowy_owl9

@josefa meaning?

del_1532019671_jaygirls

@josefa I believe it's a saying that people who feel salty about not breastfeeding made because they don't like hearing facts. I took a nutrition class that says breast is best and I read alot of breastfeeding and its benefits daily. 🤷 not saying formula feeding is bad because you gotta feed your baby some how but like I said fed is required but breast is best.

josefa

Josefa

@jaygirls, you believe wrong. i breastfed my child and i still say that because i don't like to judge people. Some people don't get to breastfeed because they can't actually. And everyone chooses when to stop breastfeeding their child. If the original poster is complaining about pain and her daughter has had 1 year and 9 months of breastmilk its ok to tell her that cows milk is also an option

josefa

Josefa

@snowy_owl9, meaning feeding your child is what matters most. I think its great that you are still breastfeeding but don't stress about it if you can't do it anymore because it's causing you pain. Your kid will not get traumatized if you wean her, her body will learn to adjust to other types of foods too. Now, if you want to keep breastfeeding while pregnant or even with a second baby then good, I would suggest to try the nipple shield but i don't know how much that would help

del_1532019671_jaygirls

Deleted

@josefa but its not your place to tell her that she should stop and give cows milk. She's looking for pain relief during breasfeeding while pregnant not what age she should wean. If she wants to tandem nurse til 5 then she can. Her daughter's age has nothing to do with it. Would you still have the same reply if her daughter was 4 months old and she found she was pregnant?

. I breastfed all three of my girls but I also formula fed my middle child starting around 5 months due to not having enough information. I stand my ground at Breast is Best.🤷

sweetsap

sweetsap

@jaygirls true

josefa

Josefa

@jaygirls, yeap i would give her the same reply. Things happen for a reason, if you get pregnant and your boobs hurt so much why not give her other milk? yeah breastfeeding might be great but u can't be neurotic and a nazi about it. If cows milk and formula were sooooo freaking horrible for people we would still be drinking our moms milk till we die. I think ur exaggerating. And i can let her know that from 1yrs old u can introduce cows milk, dont tell me what to say or not to say this is an app and she asked for advise so i gave my opinion. Believe me her child will not die for not drinking milk from her boob.

sweetsap

sweetsap

@jaygirls I think that breast is best source of nutrition for baby too, but fed is best. I couldn't get my baby to latch, so he was on the verge of being jaundiced, and I tried so hard to feed him breast. He wasn't putting out any full diapers, he just wasn't getting milk from me. I had to give him formula, it was that or let him starve. Breastfeeding is very beneficial, but in order to get the benefits, baby has to swallow it.

I got help because I really wanted to breastfeed, but I do not have anything against moms who choose not to. We all know the facts, it's our individual situations that causes us to decide the best thing to do

sweetsap

sweetsap

@josefa the advice given was not what op wanted to hear, but it's still advice, she can choose to follow or not follow. Every advice won't be the same and won't be what you expect to hear. Making posts, one has to realize this

josefa

Josefa

@snowy_owl9, don't get me wrong, i think it's great that you are still trying to breastfeed. Now i just wanted to let you know that its also ok to wean her if you feel that she is ready. Now that you have stated that she is not ready then maybe talk to your doctor about it...i had nipple shieldsat the beginning and they helped but it wasnt magic, if your boobs are sore from the hormones of pregnancy then maybe there is something your doctor can do or maybe you could pump your milk manually (to control the pain) and then give your daughter a bottle?

@sweetsap88 i agree hun. I know fed is required. Obviously if breastfeeding is an option we have to feed our kids some how just as I fed my middle child for 7 months. I am not arguing that someone shouldn't give formula I'm just saying breast milk is the number 1. I am no way formula shaming.

I broke down at my moms house today ... because of the debt we owe and Passover is coming and it’s a very expensive holiday ... it was just way too much .... my mom i guess told my brother that I’m suffering and he called me over and asked me why i didn’t just ask for help, and offered to help when i need it . And gave me basically 4K to help for the month and if i need more to ask ... now one thing about me , is that i will suffer silently and won’t ask for help.... I’ve always been that way. Deff thankful for my family atm. I will start to do eBay too . I have stuff i can sell... anything to help out alittle help my husband ... whatever i can do.
