OT. WIC and formula help please

Maybe your health insurance ( or medic-aid) may cover it with a prescription. Combined with WIC you may not have to buy any out of your own pocket.

Try looking on Craigslist too. People list formula there and it's normally cheaper. Also try to go through your insurance. And I know my wic does rtf formula but I forget the reasons they will allow it.

does your dd drink powdered formula or does she refuse it? just asking because dd refuses powdered formula but I've only tired similac. I've even mixed an oz of formula with 5 oz of breast milk and she still refuses it! ): I am getting back to work and I can only get 3-4 oz out the whole 9 hours I'm gone and it's so uncomfortable. :/

You need a doctors note. But they still won't give you checks for liquid formula.

Have you tried looking up homemade formula? If I need to supplement that's my plan, it's cheaper than storebought and really close to human milk, plus you don't get unhealthy additives. Google it.

they don't like giving out soy-that much i can tell you from experience. they had us put dd on lactose free and it did the trick.

as for type (powder liquid ect) they should work with you with a dr's note.

You also might try a soy based milk. She could be allergic to milk, or it might be easier for her to digest. I think target sells it in their brand of products. I'm sorry you are having financial problems, things will change soon! :)

Idk if they will cover it but I know they will cover acid reflux powder formula just by my request without dr note. Hope you are able to.

Since you're having financial troubles, I would highly recommend seeing a lactation consultant to help with the breast feeding. Than you don't have to worry about WIC. La leche league leaders will give you as much assistance as you need and they are free!

@avullo the liquid formula doesn't cause her any problems. We tried organic powdered formula but it made her spit up as well. And I haven't seen I liquid organic formula, but if I found one I assure you we couldn't afford it. She gets as all natural as we can afford. She was getting only organic food, but with our income now and as behind as we've gotten on bills plus all of our medical bills that have been sent to collections, we are doing the best we can.

Believe me, I would love it if Aleeyah could tolerate cheap parents choice formula or whatever wic would cover because that would help out even more.

Wic has been really good to us. My dd keeps switching because of an allergy and they are great. Like pp said being a dr note and hopefully they will switch it. My dd actually cannot tolerate the ready serve formula.

I just want to warn you that non-organic formula (which wic will supply) contains GMO's and may be causing problems for your baby. GMO's are really bad and the only way to avoid them is to get certified organic.

If you have paperwork saying she needs to be on a specific formula for medical reasons they should cover it. It may have to be a brand they are associated with though, which is different depending on the area. My son needed a special formula because of allergies and wic covered it 10 cans a month. They are actually still covering it for him and he's 18 months.

We already have food stamps, but a month worth of formula is literally more than the amount of food stamps we have.

I have an appt on Monday, I'm gonna ask them about it then. Hopefully they just need a prescription from the Dr. Even if they only cover 1/4 or 1/2 of what we need. That will still help out tremendously.

Dh and I have hit some serious financial lows right now :/ this is like the worst possible time for dd to wean herself from the breast.

And I'm really sad about it. Idk of any of y'all remember, but a couple months ago I posted about switching to formula. Well I decided to wait 2 weeks and then if I still wanted to switch then I would. Well dd got so much better with her schedule and amount of time each feeding took that I decided to keep nursing until at least a year... Apparently she has other plans. Lol

I think if you get a doctors note saying why you need it switched then they will switch it, but I'm not positive. I heard that they are in association with certain company's, which is why you don't get to choose the brand. I would just call the office in the morning as ask to speak to someone about it. No harm in asking. Also if you are low income and they will not cover the formula you need, you could apply for food stamps, I'm pretty sure you can get formula with it.

I don't have the time in the day to pump her and give her a bottle. And on top of that my supply is barely there now since she nurses so little. We have tried Gerber powder and Enfamil powder. Over the cores of the last 8 months. Mostly the first couple months she was born because it took SO long for my milk to come in and then have enough to make her gain weight.

Now we use Gerber good start gentle in ready-to-use or concentrate. When she was a newborn we used Enfamil newborn ready-to-feed 2oz nursettes.

Typically they would make you try every type of powder before (and even then it's a big IF) they cover liquid. I've worked with a few different offices in a couple different states and it really depends on who you're working with. If your supply isn't an issue just baby not wanting to nurse I'd try and pump to avoid formula, but if that's not for you then talk to your WIC office and dr and hopefully you can figure something out!

It's going to depend. It could cover some of it but not all of it... I have a friend whose son is allergic to almost every formula! The one he can take is very expensive.. So wic will cover like 2-3 cans a month.. Or something like that.. Say he really needs like 6 .. Wic is only covering half of what it is needed.. So it does help her out to only have to buy a portion of what's needed compared to all of it. But I would contact your wic office and ask them

Could you pump and bottle feed breast milk instead of doing any formula?

No experience with the WIC though. Hope you get it figured out!
