hospital
I just got the hospital bill ??? it's always so shocking! No comments, free healthcare country mommies. I know, I know, move to Canada.
We have to meet our deductible (4000 individual/6000 family) and then it's 20 or 10% after that. I'm waiting to see how much the insurance negotiated price is but my bill was $12000+ and baby's was $2500+. My older daughter had a second set of tubes put in her ears too, so that goes toward the deductible, but her 5 minute surgery was $2300. Crazy! I had a simple birth, but extras like water birth pool and liner are $1000, iv fluids $500, and my favorite ridiculous price is for the ice pack diapers stocked in my room at $119 each (charged for 7, but I only used 3!). Luckily I won't pay all that, but daaaang.
Just had a quick look at the cost of living differences from Australia (the state I live in) compared to the US. I thought that the cost of living would be much lower in the US because of all the extra benefits we get here (free healthcare, government payments/benefits for any person that has children. I currently receive about 1000 a month on base/minimum payments), but in most places its still higher.
Its crazy how varied governments can be, and theres countries out there that have it even better than we do!
If I had to pay as much as half these ladies I'd have enough money for 1 onesie and 1 baby wipe
Lol I'm in Canada
They even have programs where I'm from to give out brand new car seats for free and what not
I'd rather pay more on my loaf of bread then have to pull $9000 out of my arse or worry abt it along with student loans, bills etc
Don't worry. It's all relative. Free healthcare translates to higher priced everything else. People just forget. ?
Governments don't grow money on trees, ya know , LOL. (Well. Clearly some people think they do.)
I live in downtown chicago, have private insurance and pay $1,713 for a cesarean. But we meet our in and out of network deductible annually due to other health conditions. I think that's a steal.
400 million people versus a few million elsewhere is an impossible comparison.
We talked to the hospital and got an estimate of approx 6,000. My first was covered under state insurance because we weren't married at the time. My husband always says we should've never married because state insurance will cover everything if your legally single. Which is ridiculous!
I'm expecting mine to be around 6k outta pocket, and that doesn't even include the separate bills for the babies doctor and/or epidural bill, etc...and I've already paid my OB her 400+ estimate...good thing hospitals except monthly payments ? and sad thing is.... I pay monthly for these crappy benefits! They don't cover crap! Insurance is a joke and stuff is overly priced, in my opinion.
Hospitals
What does or doesn't the hospital provide when you have a baby. I know most hospitals cut out the baby pictures. Anyone know ?
I was putting away all babies bottles, steriliser etc today and got a little overwhelmed with it all! I know it sounds stupid but I'm scared about everything, from feeding my baby properly to changing his nappy! Then it crossed my mind about the hospital? Will I need to take my steriliser and everything to the hospital, how do I feed him in hospital? I know some people might laugh at these questions but I genuinely don't know and I'm worrying 😓
I got to the hospital and was 8 1/2 centimeters and baby boy is here
Last time mine and baby's bill was close to 20k. All I had to pay was $175. Luckily we have really good insurance because of my husbands job
