MIL moved in - Day 3
So, it's been 3 days since my MIL, BIL, and 91 year old grandmother-in-law moved in to our house due to a house fire. Grandma has been sleeping in the guest room, MIL on a blow up mattress and BIL on the couch in the basement. Last night, DS had a sleepover at a friends house so I ran up the street to drop off clothes. When I came back, DH and MIL were discussing "sleeping arrangements" for BIL. They thought it would he a fantastic idea for him to bunk with my 8 year old son. NO FRICKING WAY! BIL is 38 years old! Not happening! They were so insistent but I absolutely refused. I later gave my DH a hard time about it because I felt that was something he should have discussed with me first (I also told him me must be on drugs because that's just crazy). The issue with him staying on the couch is because I work from home and my office is down there so having him sleeping or trying to watch TV while I'm trying to work is just not going to fly!
They aren't staying in a hotel right now because Meme can't stay in one. Being 91, having a care giver everyday, etc. She just can't share a room with two other people, which is why we said they could stay here until they were placed in a home.
His brother still living at home has always been an issue for me but I've never had to deal with it so I just said whatever. Now, I do. Hahaha!
Today his mom said she wanted to pay us rent for staying with them. I said that I wasn't possibly going to charge them rent for a few weeks! That's what family is for.
I hope she got the hint!!!!!
Oh heavens no. I get overwhelmed when my boyfriends parents come visit a few days. I can't imagine 3 people in my house for who knows how long on top of three kids already. I will say some prayers for your sanity for real. And no a grown man wouldn't be staying with my child, especially when he works until midnight and even more especially because he is awake until dawn. Nope.
I had a long talk with DH last night about it and he is in the same page with me, thank god! He said he is just waiting for her to hear from the adjuster how long they think it will take to repair and then he was going to use that as leverage for telling her they need to move into the house they will be getting FOR FREE!
Last night my MIL said she just didn't want to go to another house because she's worried about leaving her mother home alone for even a few hours. They left her home for a few hours at their house. I asked her what the difference was and she said "well, we know the neighbors there."
???
I think MIL needs to be thankful that she is able to stay with you. You have a family of your own to raise though and that is not fair to your family for the 3 of them to stay there for months! I would be going insane. If they will be getting a house to move into they need to go with that house. Sounds like she is asking for a little too much.
Oh my god that sounds like a nightmare. 3 of them living with you? my MIL would be bad enough never mind 3.. Is there no where else they can stay there's already 5 of you in your house and they want to stay there for months.. I understand it must be a very hard time for them losing there house. But if they can be moved somewhere in a few weeks why would they want to live on top of you? Put the foot down tell them there's not enough space for it to become long term.
Well OP since your MIL wants you to be open with your feelings, let her know that you feel that they need to be moving out as soon as they are able. Seriously, she's nuts. I love my family, but I could never live with any of them again. EVER. It would have to be for a day or two, or a super crazy emergency.
@ashley (that's my name too!) I'm in and out of meetings all day so I'd be talking on the phone for hours while he is trying to sleep on the couch just a few feet away.
My solution was to make him his own room in the laundry room. It's a huge room, albeit unfinished. But we could put a blowup mattress in there, a TV (if he wanted one) and it could be a place he could close the door and do whatever he wanted to.
I don't want him bunking with my son because he works until 12am, then stays up until 6am watching TV, then sleeps all day. My son is 8 and doesn't have a TV in his room but MIL and DH were "thinking of just putting one in there temporarily". Really? So my son can try to sleep at night while BIL watches TV? No way!
Also, my mom comes to my house to watch my kids during the day. They are either playing upstairs in their room or on the main floor. My daughters' room is right next to my sons, which means they would need to be courteous and quiet all day so he could sleep. I can't have my three year old, my 5 month old and my mother feeling like they have to tiptoe around because a grown man feels like staying up until the sun comes up and then sleeping all day.
Sounds like she's planning on taking advantage of an awful situation. Maybe I'm wrong but these posts always seem to turn to the family coming between you & dh, overstepping your parental role with your children & treating you like a guest in your own home. Set a date & stick to it
Does he sleep all day? Not going to lie, as a functioning member of society, I get so irritated that my brother sleeps for most of the day doing so much of nothing.
And there is no way I'd let a grown man sleep with my kid, regardless of gender.
She asked for open, be open with her! Tell her to talk to her insurance and get a friggin hotel. Lol
Lawd have mercy. Dear sweet baby Jesus, help this poor woman . Get her in laws a rental to stay in so that her hair don't turn grey and she doesn't have to pimp smack her mother in law in front of her kids. And please lawd keep the ever leeching 38 yr old chronic stay at home son out of her kids room.
Hallelujer amen
Any mommas having issues with their 3 year olds not sleeping ??
Took my kiddo to the doctor and his doctor recommended I get him Melatonin
So I did
I started with 1mg and it did nothing
So I got him 3mg still nothing
Got him 5mg nothing
So today I bought him 10mg
I hope it works
This kid can go the whole night without sleeping and no naps throughout the day
I’m one exhausted momma
Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no,
his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me...
Co-Sleeping, how old is to old?
I personally do not co-sleep. I tried it once and woke up panicked that I rolled on him, so it's just not for me. But my question is how old is to old for a child to be sleeping with parent? I see moms with 2+ year olds, so when is your cut off? I knew someone who co-slept until 10.
So I feel like the worse person in the world
My 16 year old thinks I’m his enemy because I don’t let him visit friends
My 4 year old and 2 year old think I’m mean because I don’t let them play outside (there’s water and mud everywhere)
My husband thinks I’m a witch because I keep asking him for help
And my mom thinks I’m lazy because I no longer cook like before
I’m so ready to sit in a corner and cry
Ah ok. Makes sense now. I assumed one wasn't offered to them or it was rejected by MIL so she would have the opportunity to drive you insane. You're still a better person than me. I wouldn't have turned them away either, but I would for sure be letting them know how miserable I was!
