I think it will be fine. I'd see young robins do this every year where I grew up. Some just hang out on the ground for a few days before they learn to fly. It's got plenty of wing feathers too, it'll learn in no time.

After all the kids went in, the mommy bird started to come around. I checked on the baby a few times and he ended up hopping under a bush for shelter. The storm passed right by without even a drop of rain so as long as he doesn't get eaten by a snake tonight, it's a happy ending!! Yay!

It looks like a blue jay! I say you put it in a open box too with some food and water... Are the parents nearby?

I agree with pp. Out a box sideways with a towel and some bird seed and stuff under the car so he is safe from storm. He's so cute.

It's still under the car. I think it's a fledgling and just learning to fly. I just don't want it to be someone dinner. :-(

Babies don't know how to fend for themselves yet. There was a baby bunny under our bushes hopping around alone. I walked away and came back to check on it an hour later and it was on the sidewalk with it's head gone. Either a hawk or an owl got it:( If it had just stayed under the bushes until mama got back it would have been fine. So even if you put a birdhouse there, it probably won't know to stay inside.

Is that a Blue jay? If so look out for the parents, they'll tear you up if they see you near their baby! I've been attacked by one before just for unknowingly getting near a nest. They're not nice birds! I would just leave it be, the parents are probably close by.

The momma won't abandon him if you touch it, that's a myth. I would just put a little shelter out for him or put him under a bush or tree so he doesn't get down poured on, poor little fella. This is a really cool picture OP

Some baby birds live on the ground for a few days after getting kicked out of the nest when learning to fly. I wouldn't touch him because then the mom may abandon him. But you could definitely put a bird house out and some bird food!

I can't find the nest. The neighbor kid said they saw a squirrel and a bird fighting this morning in the same area. I doubt it was this little baby, but maybe the mom? He's under the car right now. Hopefully that will keep him dry. I'm nervous to touch him.
