Allergic to metal

Hi ladies! I've developed an allergic reaction to metal and it only seems to get worse. This has been going on for years but now it's getting really bad. I can't wear any jewelry, not even my wedding and engagement rings. :-( Anyone have the same issue?

Well, I'm also allergic to metal, but I have been all my life. And it sucks so much! It was especially terrible when I was younger and friends would always get cheaper necklaces and earrings for birthdays, but I could never wear them:(

I can only wear white gold for an extended period of time. And only on my finger. Necklaces and bracelets give me a nasty scaly rash no matter what type of metal if I have it on for more then a few hours. Earrings are the worst.

I've worn jewelry all my life but about 7ish years ago, my ears started to swell up when any kind of earrings were in. Then about 4 years ago, my rings started to bother me a little so I only wore them every now and then. 2.5 years ago, my belly rings started to give me infections so I had to take that out, and now my neck and chest break out when I wear necklaces.

I wore my ring set 1 week ago on a date with DH. By the time I got home my finger was burning and bleeding. It's STILL scabbed up!

Paint it with clear nail polish. It wears off so you have to repaint it when it starts to irritate you. Bu it will allow you wear jewelry.

@mamnicky - that's exactly what happens to my finger. It's a scaly rash and it bleeds.

@squishy, so true! Completely forgot about that lol. But with dd I don't wear much jewelry anyway since she tugs on it and my other job is....less than friendly for jewelry and valuables unfortunately

I tried clear nail polish on my rings and it didn't work. Haven't tried it on earrings and my belly rings though. I'll give it a shot!

Did you paint enough? I do like 5 coats and let each coat dry completely and do the sides too

I only did one coat. Will it ruin my rings? They are white gold.

So am I! I used to put tape on the inside of my buttons on my jeans. I can wear cheap earrings, but only for a couple hours at a time.

You can put clear nail polish on your cheap earrings. It does help. And after taking off jewelry or jeans, apply a cortisone type cream to prevent a rash/break out.

Usually people with metal allergies are actually allergic to nickel. Nickel is even found in 14k gold. Try using only 24k gold and see if that helps. It worked for me.

It's probably the nickel in the metal not the gold itself. You have to look around but you can find nickel free stuff.

I'm allergic to nickel. My sister's second white gold wedding set broke her out so bad her finger swelled up. They almost had to get it cut off. So her hubby got her an upgraded platinum set. Lucky biatch!

My ring is palladium white gold. It has no Nickle and is in the platinum family.

I've tried nickel-free jewelry and I got the same reaction. Maybe I can convince the hubby to upgrade me to platinum!! :-) ?

I am really considering the paragard non hormonal IUD, instead of getting my tubes tied... I was totally against all IUD's but I think I may give it a go. My only real concern is I have found I am allergic to a lot of metals and wondering how I can test if I am allergic to copper before I do that. I do not want a hormonal IUD and I want to still get my periods. But I am seriously afraid of putting something inside my body I am allergic too.... P.S. I am surely allergic to nickel and must use nickel free jewelry. I am reading now about this and idk it makes no sense

I'm always superbly in the mood for metal on Sundays. (Yesterday was trip hop and hip hop.) It's happy music for me and helps me get my energy up ending the weekend chasing three kids and cleaning a crazy house by myself at 9 months preggo. Lol Any metal mommies out there? What kind of metal do you like? I've been listening to Metallica, Black Sabbath, Slayer, System of a Down, Slipknot, GWAR, Pantera, Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Marilyn Manson this morning.
