Don't worry you will be fine. A lot of the problems come when people who don't know better go there flashing around lots of cash the walk into ally's or walk away from friends. I have put myself in very dangerous and stupid situations at mardi gras and nothing bad ever happened. New Orleans, like a lot of Louisiana has a lot of wonderful people. You just have to watch for the bad apples like any big city. For ex when I was 16 me and a friend (16) went partied for mardi gras and got lost from our friend who was our ride. A man found wasted sitting in the gross street since we had lost our phones and bought us a cab took us to a hotel bought us a room and left. He was so nice he was actually a gay stripper there and said he had sisters out age and would want someone to protect them. After my mom found out she tracked him down and offered to pay him back but he refused. I still text him every now and then an anytime I go into the city I have lunch with him.

Thanks for all of the advice ladies! I am a little freaked out now! Haha! I won't be going anywhere without my hubby and more than likely will always have other friends from work with me too. My boss and I plan to spend the whole weekend doing fun stuff together and her husband is a cop! Haha!

Also New Orleans in a wonderful city I have lived around it and visited my entire life, but please be careful. Stay with crowds, don't carry a huge purse with lots of valuables, don't flash lots of cash, if you are driving a start seeing trashy house don't stop just get out the neighborhood, use common sense and you will be fine.

I wanted to add be careful....it's fun but don't be naive to the dangers. Don't put stuff in your back pockets or have an open purse loosely hanging. Don't talk to anyone who walks up to you randomly talking about your shoes and stuff. If they try to be like here's a free blah blah blah, be leery, they're gonna try to get money out of you. Definitely stay on main streets. If you get "lost" you don't know what/who you'll run into. Don't go anywhere alone. Not trying to scare you, but it's an ugly reality sometimes.

A hand grenade is this slushy type of drink served in a plastic neat looking green glass...the bottom is a grenade guy and it has a watermelon flavor to it...do not let it fool you though...it tastes like kool aid but 3 got me feeling whoopsyyyy lol :)

They have a few casinos in the area if you like to gamble. There is harrahs on canal. Or you can go to Mississippi to the casinos out there. The odds are better in Mississippi. They have some fun tours in the French quarter too. You have to have a daiquiri, hand grenade, and hurricane lol. If you go across the lake to the north shore they have a neat animal park. It's a bit of a drive but you get to feed antelope and giraffes up close. It's called global wildlife in Folsom. Just be careful in New Orleans. It is a fun town but can be dangerous. Just stick to the main streets and you will have a great time!

the cemeteries are super creepy at night. go during daylight hours. if you wanna go to a jazz bar, i recommend snug harbor. looking for some good food, dragos, port of call, margaritaville. the acme on bourbon is the most genuine. everybody said bourbon for entertainment. just wear boots or sneaks. never heels or flip flops. no matter what, after dark the street is super dirty.

Bourbon street and the french quarters is great... all kinds of little shops to explore!! Bubba Gumps is such an amazing place to eat as well!! I can't remember what it's called because it's been so long (went for my high school choir trip) but there is also some sort of pier that is really pretty at night time down near the French quarter and Bourbon street!! Hope you guys have a wonderful time :)

Stay in the Quarter and you'll never have to leave! You can walk to everything. I suggest the Bourbon Orleans Hotel. And crab cakes at the Grapevine are the best, ever.

There is just so much to do! Love it. [I'm from Louisiana, we go to Nola a lot!]
