I NEED to start working out again

My daughter is almost a year old and I’ve let myself go since I was pregnant with her ??? I need to start eating healthy and working out again, and I need to get SO on board with me. My only issue is, I don’t have time to myself AT ALL during the day. SO works all day and we have 3 kids, so of course it isn’t that easy. My daughter clings to me and I can’t even use the bathroom alone (I know you ALL know this struggle) much less exercise properly. I have always worked out at home, ran and did toning exercises, etc.

I used to go for an evening jog once my so was home or dd was in bed, but found I struggled to sleep the nights after. I found just putting a work out video on YouTube and either let the kids entertain themselves (I did it in the same room so could keep an eye) get them to join in, or involve them as weights like pp said. I used to also make housework more of a work out, lunges while vacuuming, put the washing basket on the floor and squat to get each piece to hang etc.

Ahh I just saw that your oldest are 8 and 3. I would def just wait for the 7 month old to nap, and take some quick time to yourself. Maybe serve the 8 and 3 year old lunch and workout right there in the living room where you can still supervise them while they eat. They will love watching you! You can totally do this!!!!

Maybe you could start by doing short workouts (like 15 min) during the day. Do any of your kids nap? Even being less outnumbered would be helpful. Either that, or I think it's completely reasonable to give them some personal play time for 15 min. This way you teach them to tolerate you having this 15 min to yourself and you can work up to 30 as time goes on! I did the 21 day fix after I had my 2nd. I started when he was 13 weeks. I wasn't sure if I'd stick to it, but it was hard for me to make an excuse to not take 30 min of the day to myself. My older one napped while I did my workout. If the newborn was awake, he'd be next to me in his swing or something. It didn't always work out, but I did my best and wasn't too hard on myself. Some days they were both awake and I had them in the pack and play next to me while I worked out. They will learn to be patient. I ended up sticking with it and loving it and got in the best shape of my life purely out of the joy of it.

It's tiring, but any change takes commitment, patience, and not feeling like a failure if you miss a day or two. Just keep trying to figure out what works best for you.

Best of luck!

It is really hard with little ones, and my daughter is sooo clingy to me. I breastfeed, so I’m hungry a lot. I know I need to start eating healthier and pushing myself to workout. I’m miserable and need change, I hope I can stick to it.

I honestly feel a lot like you. I was in really good shape when I got pregnant with my first LO. I even jogged up until 8 1/2 months pregnant. But, I was so exhausted after LO was born I never could really get back into. I would go to the gym here and there, run occasionally but never got into a routine and still had a little extra baby weight (I don't know if you can call it that bc he's two but ?‍♀️). Now I'm pregnant again and I know I need to at least get back to walking. After #2 comes, I definitely need to suck it up and get back to working out regularly or I'll be miserable. It's just hard with little ones.

I enjoy running outside more than on a treadmill. I would like to use the gym for everything else, even work my way up to lifting some weights. I’m out of shape badly now. I used to be very fit right when I got pregnant with my daughter and I HATE myself now, I need to get myself back to where I was or close to.. we are living with my mil for the time being, so we have the option to go workout when the kids are all in bed.

ETA- other kids are 8 and 3

Oo yes! To pp's comment, my local fitness center has a childcare center.. I volunteer 2 hours per week (and can bring my kiddo) and get my membership for free!

I joined the fitness center at my hospital which has childcare daily for ages 6 weeks and up for a max of 2 hours. I kid you not that it has been my lifesaver both physically and mentally. It’s the only time I have away from my kids and I get to utilize self care and be a better mom for my boys. It’s not cheap but worth it and my toddler has a blast! Check your local hospital fitness centers if there are any and can afford it!

I go to bed when my daughter does.. lol and I wake up at 430 am to get my workout in! When it's not sub zero, I'll go running outside! You get used to running outside!

Have your kiddos do it with you

You can do 15-20 minute CrossFit type workouts at home. Use your kiddos as weights. That’s what I’ve done in the past lol

I went to the Dr last month and the nurse put me on the scale. I said jokingly, "When do you think I should stop using the, 'I just had a baby' excuse? Haha." She said, "How old is your baby?" Me- "7 months." Batchy nurse-"Probably now." Geeeez. Way to be rude lol

So yea. I feel ya. It's time.

What about while cleaning do some sqwats, run in place. Turn on the music and dance. Get your heart rate up.

Good luck. I bet you are still beautiful but just looking negatively at your body.

How old are your other kids? Some gyms have child care centers in them. My gym is like a couple dollars an hour per kid or 35 dollars for 2 hours each day per month for the child care.
