Yeah. The worst thing about this situation is it wouldn't happen so often if my husband didn't bust the lock on the sliding door. I'm not used to the fact that it's broken and automatically latches now. That's why it's happening so often to me. We are waiting for it to get fixed though. I'm just glad it's not busted in the fact that it doesn't lock. That would be awful.

It's okay. One time I was walking down the stairs with my 2 year old fall (ds was ok) and it my arm stuck in between the railing and wall. I had to convince my ds to get my phone so I could call dh. Dh didn't believe me so I had to call 911 to come and free me. They came with lights and sirens on. Of course I locked all of the doors, so the firefighters had to encourage ds to unlock the door for them. They were super sweet and even gave ds a tour of the fire truck. Moral of the story life happens and what seems horrible today will be funny tomorrow.

Someone else here did it just yesterday. That alone would make me feel better. I agree though, hiding a key or giving a copy to a friend might need to happy since this is the third time.

I saw something about attaching a pill bottle to a rock and burying the bottom part. I think I'm going to do that. We don't have a garage either so a garage door opener would be pointless. ?? my neighbors weren't judging because they were all in the exact situation I was the other day I guess. There's probably 5 of them over there and they all locked themselves out together.

I saw somewhere to hide a key in like a tic tax case or something then burry it and put some sort of non obvious marker on top so you know where to dig to get it but no one else would think to

Maybe carry a garage door opener in your pocket?

Also, don't feel bad about calling for a non-emergency. I work as an ER nurse and we get patients who called 911 for a one month headache. And we get families who drive in grandma with chest pain, and she's really having a heart attack and goes right to the cath lab! Always better to call and have it not be an emergency than the other way around.

My husband and I only have 2 keys but I have both of them and when he's in town there's no need for each of us to have one so I'm going to start unlocking the inaccessible locks in the morning and have a key hidden out side. Just nowhere to put it yet so I need to get crafty.

The first 2 times it wouldn't have locked but my daughter pushed against is and it latched. A hide a key wouldn't help with my house as there's no way to unlock the sliding door with a key and the inside of the front door has locks that aren't accessible from the outside and I haven't unlocked any of them yet today.

I think it's time to hide a key somewhere safe if this is a recurring thing.

This same situation has happened to me 3 days in a row but I got lucky. The first time it happened I was able to wiggle the sliding door unmatched cause it didn't fully latch. The second time my front door was unlocked. Which is a rare occurrence. I have severe anxiety and all my doors and windows remain locked at all times. Today my sliding door fully latched and all my doors and Windows except one that I couldn't reach were locked. Definitely a scary situation. As soon as the firefighter came through my front door I flew past him and grabbed my screaming daughter. She would have come out with my like she usually does but I needed both hands free as I was grabbing an end table from my deck.

Definitely is an emergency. I locked my kid in the car once WITH my phone and instantly started ugly crying. I really didn't want to break a window but considered it. Luckily someone saw me panicking and called the police. 5 minutes later they opened the door! Thank god for great emergency service men and women!

I would have busted a window too but none were in my reach except the sliding door that my daughter was on the other side of. Every possible danger in my house ran through my head. I was able to stay calm and sat on the ground at the back door talking to her and trying to keep her calm. The thing is. Everyone tells you to call 911 in case of emergency and that it absolutely has to be an emergency but no one really tells you what constitutes an emergent situation. The only time I have ever dialed 911 was when my brother was hit by a truck. I have anxiety and have a fear of calling 911 because what I think is an emergency could be wasting their time if someone else is having a severe emergency.

I'm glad nothing bad happen! So crazy that a similar thing happened to someone else yesterday. Lol

This is what scares me about parenting, it's so easy for things like this to happen. I was on edge reading your post. I'm glad all is well and you're not a pathetic mum, it could happen to the best of us!

Omg. I'm so glad everything turned out okay. I cried reading that. I would have freaked out if that happened to me. I don't do good with situations like that. I probably would have busted a window.
