I'm sad.
I can't believe this is happening. My DD had her first birthday party last night. I ordered her a cute little smash cake, we sang happy birthday, blew out the candle, stripped her down so she wouldn't ruin her clothes, and she wouldn't eat it.

Did you allow her to lick some off your finger?
Perhaps she just doesn't know what exactly this thing is you're putting in front of her as to her reservation.

My daughter didn't want to make a mess with it! I had to show her it was food by putting her hand in it and letting her taste it. Then, she very daintily pinched off tiny pieces and brought them to her mouth.

My Dd1 did this! We sat the cake in front of her and she tried to throw it off the high chair ? I caught it with my hands and stuck my finger in her mouth and then she started eating it when she realized it was yummy ?

My godson was like this. He wouldn't touch it until we put some frosting in his mouth. He was all about it after that.

My son has never ate cake, but I still buy him a cake every year for his birthday.

Personally, I think pictures of her not happy about a big cake & beautiful background would be quite funny for her to see when she's older. It tells much more of a story and about her personality! Xx

Neither of my kids really ate their cakes at their 1st birthdays

My son only used one finger and daintily licked all the icing off the cake using his one finger only ? little turd still hates getting dirty lol I still have pics of him doing it though :)

My son HATED IT! We have pictures of him screaming because my husband made him touch it lol. It was like we ruined his life lol

That was my girls. It was like eh. Don't care mom. Get me down. They both were clean faced. Dipped their fingers into the frosting and ate it like a princess. We wanted that messy face so badly!

My dd has an egg and dairy allergy. After I stressed and and slaved away making a cake from scratch that she could actually eat. She took a little nibble and hated it. I cried as well. Oh well though. Her hating it is a unique memory.

My niece didn't. I think some kids just don't. That's ok! It'll be fun to tell her that too. Lol

My baby ddnt smash her 1st birthday cake either):

My son had a pre-birthday celebration with my gamily in Missouri when we visited them a few days ago, and he was so dainty about it. Wouldn't touch the icing, only wanted the cake part. Then my cousin held it up to his face and he bit chunks of the icing off, but he refused to touch it himself. Party pooper.

I just went through this last week with dd! She hated the cake and didn't want it on her nor did she want to taste it. She never turns down food either, I mean the girl eats anything, except cake ?.

My DD1 hated it. She didn't understand why everyone was staring at her and she didn't want to get dirty. lol She just pinched the frosting with her finger. Oh well. lol
I'm hoping DD2 goes ham on her cake.

My dd refused her smash cake too! She's always loved food but wanted nothing to do with the cake. We have an adorable pic of her looking at the cake in disgust though ?

My older son picked his cupcake up and immediately dropped it on the floor. LOL he wanted nothing to do with it.

I made special cupcakes instead of a cake and she had no clue what to do with it. We has to show her by bringing it to her mouth for her for a taste. Since her birthday she steals the first bite of every cake my boyfriends family buys for their birthdays. It's hilarious. They always let her take a big bite right from the cake... I'm sorry it didn't work out how you wanted. Maybe for the next birthday see if she wants to do it then. It's a year late but I'm sure it'll be just as fun and cute. Plus you'll get pictures of messy cake baby.

Both of mine did this...they literally hated it so we just smashed their hands in it anyway! Lol I have GREAT pics of that. They were both so cute, messy, and mad of course. My ds (4yo) loves to look at his pic and laugh because it is so silly.

You could try again and do a photo shoot for it. Maybe give her a little icing ahead of time, show her what to do?

My DD wasn't a fan either got into it some until icing got in her eyes. My oldest nephew wanted nothing to do with his smash either until I gave him a spoon. He went to town and made a MASSIVE mess.

I tried giving her a taste of icing. She wouldn't open her mouth. I finally snuck some in there and she started to ball. I've tried to present it to her a couple times now, and she violently shakes her head and starts crying. Lol. Oh well I guess.

Her older brother wasn't shy about digging right in.

My daughter just poked it. Didn't even lick her finger. There was one poke in the cake.
