My daughter is 4 days old. Last night she nursed from 12:45-3:45. Every time she’d unlatch and fall asleep I’d put her down and she’d wake up rooting. My milk came in overnight. She’s been nursing pretty much non stop all day. She seems so hungry but she’s pooped 6 times and peed 8 times. So it seems like she’s getting something. But for as much as she’s nursing my boobs are still hard as rocks. She has nursed for about an hour just on my right breast. I’m pumping from that breast right now and so far I’ve gotten 3 oz. what could be going on? Do you think she’s really still hungry? She seems to latch well.

My son was doing this but my milk wasn’t in yet and he wasn’t producing wet/dirty diapers. I would try giving her some of your pumped milk in a bottle and see if she still acts hungry afterwards. It sounds like she’s getting something based on her diapers. When she’s breastfeeding can you hear her swallowing the milk?

Ok so heres what I think this is normal based on the fact that baby is new to the world and learning as well as u said in here ur milk just came in so she was signaling for that plus each nursing session may not be effeicent on either of ur parts as its new for both of u and ur breast being engorged still very normal bc ur body still hasn't leveled out which takes time so u can pump a bit out and save to get comfortable. Next she is makong a great amount of wet/soiled diapers which means she is getting milk. How is her latch and do u hear her swallowing? I would swaddle her still at least during nursing sessions to keep her arms out of the way if u can. I personally wouldn't give a bottle of anything right now if u want to breastfeed u both need to make it ur mission to get it down pat 1st. ?❤

I was in a similar situation with my LO a while back, so I'll just give you the advice my lactation consultant gave me:) she said to stay away from pumping until at least 2 months because otherwise, you'll confuse your body on how much milk to produce and keep making too much milk. While baby feeds on one side, leave the other breast out and sitting over a towel or napkin so it is able to leak on its own (this will relieve pressure on that breast while you completely drain one side with multiple feeds). And lastly, feed baby with only the diaper on, so they stay awake to eat more in one session. The warmer and cozier our LOs get while we breastfeed, the more easily and more often they fall asleep at the breast. If baby is having a lot of trouble staying awake, you can also tickle their feet or stroke their head. Hope this helps, it did for me!:)

Have you checked for tongue or lip tie? That could be affecting how well she can nurse.

Your boobs will regulate in a few days, give it a chance. Baby is the boss and regulates the milk supply.
