how does GD affect labor

how does GD affect labor

Hi ladies, ftm abd I was told I failed the glucose test but I asked my dr about it but she didn't say I have GD just that I failed. My question is how does that affect L&D.

Far as I know it doesn't. It can cause baby to be large if you don't follow your gd diet.

After delivery your baby's blood glucose will be closely monitored because they can have a sudden drop after birth and that may need to be stabilized. The better you control your levels the less likely your baby will have an issue after birth.

Yes I had it with my first, follow the diet bc your baby can be bigger than normal which can cause c section. Also, the baby and your blood sugar will be checked after baby is born and your blood sugar will be checked throughout labor.. You may need insulin during labor... I needed one dose and if you don't follow the diet you will need insulin for the rest of your pregnancy ( I didn't thankfully) good luck!

officially have gestational diabetes :-(

officially have gestational diabetes :-( I failed my 1hr glucose. But based on how high my levels were. My dr does not want to even bother with the 3hr. My 1hr levels were high enough that GD could be diagnosed. Feel so bummed......now I have to wait to meet with a nutritionist

Does GD always = higher birth weight?

Does GD always = higher birth weight? I'm a FTM who just received a GD diagnosis last week, so this is still all REALLY new to me. Obviously I know GD can lead to increased birth weight, but curious if anyone had a different experience? To be honest my husband and I now have this idea in our heads that baby girl is going to weigh 9 lbs+, but I just don't know how realistic that is.
