Does GD always = higher birth weight?

Does GD always = higher birth weight?

I'm a FTM who just received a GD diagnosis last week, so this is still all REALLY new to me. Obviously I know GD can lead to increased birth weight, but curious if anyone had a different experience? To be honest my husband and I now have this idea in our heads that baby girl is going to weigh 9 lbs+, but I just don't know how realistic that is.

My baby was 7lbs 7 oz, due the day before her due date. Now, my mom's babies were closer to 6lbs5oz so I think my daughter was large for us (and I tore pretty badly) but it doesn't mean you'll end up with a 9 pound baby. Good luck and try to keep it under control

I had GD with my first and he was 5lbs 5oz when born. He was induced at 37 weeks due to the GD and low birth weight.

I am currently pregnant with a girl and have GD again-will see dr tomorrow but as of right now he isn't expecting a higher birth weight at this time. I am almost 33 weeks.

I'm on insulin and my baby is not big at all. My ob suggested I don't have another growth scan (I'm 33 weeks now) he said that sometimes they are wrong and they end up alarming the mum. My belly is measuring a week ahead but on my growth scan bub was below average in weight. They were not concerned about that but I will be getting induced before my due date anyway.

I had GD with my son and he was 5lbs 11oz at 37.3 weeks. Diet controlled. This time around I have GD, HBP and on insulin so I'm just hoping for a healthy normal weight baby.

I had a non GD baby at 11lbs. This baby I'm not sure yet since it's my first time with GD. Weight check ultrasound tomorrow but I still don't believe that fully. They said my last baby was going to be another 11lbs and he ended up being 8 even my smallest Baby yet.

Diet controlled Gd my sugar baby was born at 40 weeks +1 day at 7lbs 5oz. Only 5 oz bigger than my non Gd baby born at the same gestation.

For me it was true. Baby was 10.7, but it went undiagnosed.

This time we know I have it, and there is def a game plan and preparation. So hopefully not a macrosomic baby!

I agree with a previous post. Try not to stress about ultrasound numbers, they can be off plus or minus 2 lbs which is huge when talking about an 8 lb baby say.

I thought my baby girl would be huge as well. In all my ultrasounds she had cubby cheeks and measured ahead. She was born at a healthy 7lbs 15oz 21 inches.

My daughter was 6lbs 10oz. They said at the scan a couple days before she was born she was going to be well over 8lbs. I ate well and took a small amount of medication for high fasting numbers.

I had gd with my first and was on glyburide at the end bc I couldn't keep my fasting numbers down. U/s said baby was like 6 or 8 lbs at 36 weeks (big diff, but whatever it was they said it was high and that baby would gain a pound or half pound a week until born - so at least 2 more pounds). Anyway, induced at 40w baby came out at 7lb.

And try not to stress about what the ultrasounds measure. Both my babies were significantly smaller than what they said. My GD baby measured 9lbs and I was made to get a csection. He turned out to be an average 7lb baby.

My baby was measuring as a macro baby at 26 weeks; that's what hinted to the doctor it might be GD. Once I started following the diet and got my numbers under control, his growth slowed way down. I would wait and see what they say about her size in another month or so; chances are, if you keep your numbers under control her growth will be normal. Sometimes, babies are just bigger. It's also important to remember that US can be off by 1-2+ pounds as well.

I've only been tracking blood sugar levels for 1 week, but all readings except one were within the normal range. Yet baby girl is measuring in the 94th percentile for her weight and head size. What the heck?!

No, my GD baby was smaller than my non GD baby

Nope! Controlling your sugars usually controls the size of the baby. I just delivered my only sugar baby (my other three were not) and he was my smallest baby at 6 pounds 1 ounce.

If your sugars are uncontrolled (either by not staying on top of it or sometimes there's just nothing you can do) your baby can be a higher weight. I had GD with both babies. My son was 7lb5oz and my daughter was 8lb6oz. I was on insulin with both..started insulin at 7 weeks when I was pregnant with my daughter.

I had gd and using insulin. Baby was born 7 lbs! Yes it does up your chances of giving birth to a big baby but if controlled no! Good luck sweety!!

Hey preggies! This is like a super nerd alert but I've found an equation developed and validated by researchers/OBs/mathematicians out of Duke Medical Center that predicts birth weight. Out of 87% of births, weight was predicted within 15% of actual birth weight- nearly the same accuracy as birth weight predicted via ultrasound. I just did the equation and if I had Baby D now, she'd weigh 6.46lbs!

I know I've posted this before but when your water was leaking did it stay leaking or just with movements or what? Did you get contractions shortly after or no? I rolled out of bed and felt warmth leak out but Idk if it was possibly urine or what...never had it happen. It didn't smell like anything really...I know I should either call l&d or go in but I just want some experiences please. I want to wait a bit just in case it's nothing.
