Could someone please tell me why u shouldn't drink coffee in pregency, I've never heard of that & my sil who has recently found out that she is pregnant would drink it!! It's just that she has mc before & if drinking coffee isn't safe in any way I want to be able to warn her about it...

Too much caffeine. But my doctor told me I'm allowed up to 2 cups of coffee a day

Caffeine goes through the amniotic sack very easily and robs the fetus of folic acid, weakening bone growth and density. That's the main issue.
It also causes unhealthy heartrate increases, some studies show palpatations, and the baby can come out and go through caffeine withdrawls.
But you are allowed a cup a day! Keep up with your folic acid supplements or prenatals! Folic acid has been shown to be key in preventing birth defects like spin abifida and gastroschisis. So it's important!

Every doctor will say different.

I don't think they vary too much on caffeine intake...some may say no but they def all agree that you shouldn't have more then 1-2 cups a day because the folic acid and bone density thing is true. I think it's more variation on how much is ok.

I was told that I was only allowed no more than 2 cups x

Like I said some will only say 1 and some will say 2 is ok.
