has anyone experienced a child who doesn't want to use the potty? My son fully understands the process of using the potty and knows when he has to go but he just doesn't want to use the potty. He loves diapers/pullups 😐. I have tried getting him his favorite underwear, a potty with one of his favorite characters, I've tried just sitting him on it with a book as well as reading the potty book. I even took a suggestion from our pediatrician to just put underwear on him without anything else so that when he had an accident it would be uncomfortable and encourage him to use the potty.... nope. He just pooped in them and didn't say a word until I smelled it... 😞

I am determined and driven for success FAILURE isn't an option for me. I potty trained my oldest at 9 months old. My 2 middle son's were more difficult they were between 18 months and 2 years old. My baby boy was showing interest in potty training, I decided to buy him a potty chair. Potty training tips 1.) Don't rush your child 2.)Don't yell at your child 3.) Don't punish your child for having accidents 4.) Don't give you child candy 5.) Don't compare other children to your child 6.) Do praise your child 7.) Clap your hands when your child goes to the potty. 8.)Take your child every 15-30 minutes to the potty 9.)Don't criticize your child 10.) I don't recommend pull ups but I don't bash mothers who decided to use them. 11.) Remember potty training is not taught in one day you have to be determined to potty train your child. Did anyone go straight to underwear while potty training their child? I heard that works best so they can feel what's going on! What worked for you?
Anybody body start potty training at 1? Like starting with once a day going the same time every day ? To get them on schedule ?? I was 🤔 maybe like before bed to put her on the potty , since I work early in the am and usually don’t have time . Edit: training a girl

The back and forth is likely what has dragged out the process so long. Consistency is the key to most things when it comes to children. I have potty trained many children over the years.
My middle ds sounds similar to yours. He had no interest in potty training. He also showed all the signs of readiness. We talked about it for a couple of weeks leading up to his birthday. The day after his 4th birthday I put away all the diapers and told him that I wasn't putting diapers on a great big 4 year old. He was fully trained in 2 days. But even if it had taken 2 months, I wouldn't have given in. Once I commit to potty training, there's no going back.
I didn't focus on rewards with him. We talked about it a lot. I explained that it was just part of growing up. I talked him through his fears of the loud flushing sound and his hesitation to poop in the potty. I listened and sympathized with him, but ultimately he understood that I wasn't going to give in.
With any method of potty training there should never be any punishments for accidents. I would not suggest using timeouts or showing any sign of frustration. That leads to power struggles and defiant behavior and can prolong the process. Staying calm, positive, and matter of fact is the best tactic I've found. If there are still accidents after a month of consistency on your part, I would check with his pediatrician to make sure there aren't any medical issues that could be causing the problem.
