3year old in this? She is 35 lbs but and she doesn't have to slouch down to get her knees past the seat. But I'm not sure if this is even safe? Any moms with advice? Is she still supposed to be in a five point harness? I don't mind having her in a five point still I rather her be safe

A 3 yr old should definitely be in a seat with a harness actually up to 5 yrs

My son is almost 6 and still in a harness. My friend has her almost 9-year-old in a harness. I would not put a 3-year -old in a booster like this. It is safest to use a harness as long as possible. :)

You can get a good safe 5point harness booster for $40 at Walmart. I got my even flow 5 point harness booster for $69 at Meijer.

I couldn't find anything either Anna. It would be helpful if you could post any links. I've been searching for quite a while now. And not one source references that information.

Here's an interesting quote from one site. I'll also post the link as there is a picture of pelvic bones to reference:

"Even if they meet a booster’s criteria, their pelvic bones may not be developed which means there is a possibility of the lap belt not staying down on the pelvic bones which is vital when the belt is loading down during a crash. If the belt rises up on the soft abdomen during a crash a lot of force is put on the internal organs and then the spinal cord. Consider your child’s age, not just their weight before graduating them to a booster. Generally, pelvic bones develop between 5-6 years old."

A short article. But good information.

Op, I'd listen to @squishy on this, she knows what she's talking about!!

There is zip, zero, zilch evidence to support that assertion Anne. Nada. Not a scrap. Not a single shred of evidence.

Ideally a child who is 3 would still be rearfacing. There is no evidence that harnessing past booster ready age is any safer (booster ready being the operative term) because it's never actually been studied. However there is a reason they use 5 point harness seat belts in vehicles that go at high rates of speed. IE race cars. And for me? That's enough to convince me of its superior safety...even with the complete lack of evidence.

My 4yr old is still in 5 point and will be for awhile still.I'd never feel comfortable having a 3yr old in that

That's patently false Anne.

Five point harness is a safer option, as long as the child fits the weight limit of the seat. It keeps them positioned in the seat correctly. With a seat belt, they can move around. The other comment about them not being safe is not true.

No, she's too young for a booster, I got the EvenFlo Sure Ride. It's a 5 pt harness and fits up to 65 lbs and we bought it for under $100. Always choose a 5 pt harness as long as you can!

My son is 35 lbs and 3 and a half and still in a 5 point harness.

Five point harness for sure. For at least a couple more years.

At 3 I plan on my daughter still rearfacing. I think a 5 point harness would be safest at her age.

Evenflo makes a Booster seat with a harness. I think it's called the secure kid dlx. We have it and like it. Very easy to install. He can stay harnessed until 65 pounds then use the seat with the belt.
