induction or letting baby come on its own?

induction or letting baby come on its own?

For all my veteran mommas! Do you prefer being induced or letting labor come on it's own? My OB asked if I'd like to be induced at 39 weeks. Not sure what to do. Induction would be convenient because my husband could be there without the worry of him being at work since he has really weird hours but I've heard induced labor is harder and longer. What are yalls opinions on it?

Natural is always better!! Do research before you decide. By the time 39 weeks comes you’ll be so ready it might seem easier to choose to be inducted. Besides most woman saying how much more painful ikon suction is, do you want to give up the “My water broke!” moment? Or “I’m in labor!” moment? You’ll never be able to have those with induction.

I've also had both and honestly induction was much harder for me. The pain was worse because it's forcing your body to do something and also you don't go from stage one Labor to the last part you basically skip to the last part of Labor so your body doesn't have the chance to build up to the pain, get used to it, as much as you can offcourse, that's why I think it's more painful. But I do understand your situation and wanting your husband around. My first I was induced and although painful it was still quite quick, only 5 hours, but in saying that I was already 11 days over and at 3cm dilated so I only had the drip to bring on Labor. With my second I had a very quick three hour delivery, he came naturally at four days overdue

I was induced with my first at 39 weeks. The doctors reasoning was that baby was big and he didn’t think I could fit an 8 lb baby through my pelvis ? my last two births have been home water births. I hated the induction process. Pitocin is no joke and It puts you at a higher risk for c section. Also I might add my last was 8lbs 5 ozs so obviously my body is very capable of pushing out an 8lb baby ? if my doctor was already talking if i wanted an elective induction I’d find a new ob.

I was induced with my first and in active labour for 2hours on the other hand my sister in law was in active labour for 6 hours and she was not induced! Think it’s just different for everyone! I was also at 41 weeks!!! And had been in labour all day before I went into the hospital just thought it was Braxton hicks lol so he would of came without any help that day any ways ?!!!

Thank yall for the input. It really makes me feel like I made the right choice by saying no. I've said this entire time I didn't want to be induced unless medically necessary (its an extremely popular practice with all OBs where I'm from to induce at 38-39 weeks for no medical reason). Then after leaving my appointment I started second guessing myself purely because of the convenience. My husband works 12 hour shifts switching between day and night. While he works in town, if he is on shift and I go into labor then he would have to wait for someone to physically get to his work before he is able to leave. Normally that would be fairly quick but they are short on people now and don't have an "on call" person so it would mean finding someone that is on their days off that would have to come in. which most of his coworkers go out of town during that time since they typically live in other cities and are only in town on days they work so it could be hours before he would be able to leave if I went into labor. I just have to hope that everything works out when baby decides to come!

Natural all the way. I was induced twice beyond 41 weeks and my body was ready I just needed the kick start. Like pp said the contraction are intense, no break in between and start super early in the process. There is no build up to hard contractions they just come and walking around was not an option for me being hooked up to everything. I am really hoping to not be induced with this one but we shall see. Ps I have had many friends be induced early for varies reasons and no joke all of them ended up with really long drawn out labor ultimately resulting in c sections.

I’d do natural if I was given the option.

How long would it take your husband to leave work and make it to the hospital if you went into labor?

Natural. I’d never trust an OB who wanted to induce early without medical reason. Increases chances of intervention. Also—baby lets your body know when they’re ready and that’s why you go into labor.

Baby will come when they are ready. It’s never in babies best interest to induce early for convenience. If there is a medical reason or you’re already really late that’s different .

I do NOT want to be induced this time. I have seen videos where ladies who went into labor naturally was able to walk around, dance, etc. When I was induced I could not get out of bed. Not because they would not let me but because my contractions were SO intence! I ended up getting an epidural because I had no time to catch my breath between contractions. I was going on 2 hours of not being able to catch my breath and I could not go any longer. The reason why being induced is more intense is because it's forcing your body to do something it is not ready to do yet. But every pregnancy and every woman is different.

Edit. I was induced at 38 weeks due to a medical condition. So I was not dilated at all when I went in.

My first two were completely on their own my last was voluntary induction and honestly I couldn't tell a difference, I was already dilated and thinned out about 70% so I think that helped but my first labor was 19 and half hours long and horrible my second was 4 hours and my induced labor was only 10 but that was because I chose not to break my water before a certain point of being dilated it's all on how you feel and what you and hubby want!

ive had both, induction is so much harder. contractions on pitocin feel twice as strong. unless your husband works hours away, you will have plenty of notice of labor coming for him to call in or come home.

With induction i have found it slightly more painful then allowing it to happen naturally as your pushing your body into labour..my first I went 2.5 wks over due was induced (on drip for about 3-4 hours) then my body took over and they stopped the drip. My second was a longer process of labour but having each phase come naturally was almost preparation per say for the big contractions as it started much smaller and grew to full contraction. With the drip the nurses control the pace of progress (while monitoring your body’s response) that’s the other benefit of allowing things to come naturally, you’re able to move about without constant monitoring. This time, we plan to wait her out and allow her to come on her own :) Good luck!!

My doctor said he would induce my labor at 38 weeks, if my baby girl still had growth issues and if the percentile dropped to 10 or less. Last thursday, it was 10 percentile, and he said if she didn't come on her own by 38 weeks, he would induce labor at that time. I'm 36 weeks 1 day today, he said my cervix was super thin, and 1cm dilated. Is there a possibility this can change... that my doctor will let her just come on her own? I don't want to be induced, i would much rather her come on her own when she is ready to come ! As much as I am anxious to meet her and have her home with me, those last few weeks of brain development and lung maturation means so much more to me! I'm hoping and praying that things turn around, and I don't have to get induced. I'm surely going to talk to my doctor about it Thursday when I go back.

Before u become pregnant think of this Do I want to be uncomfortable as hell for 40-42 weeks? Do I want to be in horrible pain for up to 14-16 hours even longer Can I handle pushing a big ass head through my vagina Can I handle this with no pain meds(sometimes u can't make it in time) Do I want to go to the hospital 10x before I'm actually in labor. Because inducing your labor at 32-37 weeks for your own selfish needs or getting a csection to do it the "easy" way is just plain selfish and FYI a csection is no easy way out. Maybe cause u Dont go thro labor pains but if you r getting a csection to cut out the most rewarding part because u quit frankly Dont want to be in pain your selfish as hell I've had csection n vaginal So Dont come for me BEING INDUCED IS DANGEROUS TO YOU AND YOUR CHILD! LET BABY STAY IN AS LONG AS POSSIBLE IF BABY IS HEALTHY THIS IS COMING FROM THE MOUTH OF A WOMEN WHO DELIVERED A SON AT 19WEEKS NOT BY CHOICE AND WHO HAS TO GET SHOTS ONCE A WEEK TO CARRY MY BABYS!
