Can't stand "soulmates"!!!

It really irritates me when people refer to their SO as their soulmate! I know it shouldn't bother me and everyone has their own philosophies, but it does!!! There are no soulmates! You chose your partner for a reason and they chose you. It wasn't "destiny" or "written in the stars". It is hard work being with someone. You have rough patches and hard times. It's not because you made a mistake and chose the wrong "soulmate". It's because we are human and we have to work through the hard times because that is the commitment we made when we got married OR had kids with someone. I just want people to be realistic and not drop everything because they are "just not happy anymore". I think soulmates are a lazy way to go into a relationship because it implies a "happily ever after" mentality, when the reality is usually very different. I think there would be a lot fewer broken homes if more people thought about there SO as a choice and commitment that they make to each other instead of a fairytale!

Of course you have to put work into a relationship..but I do believe in soul mates..my husband is my mate and I have a soul therefore soulmate...I believe in fate and destiny too but that doesn't mean I don't believe in work or taking charge of my life...

The OP said why it bothers her in her post. She doesn't like the fantasy people have going into marriage -- that because they are marrying their 'soulmate' everything will magically fall into place and glitter and stars will fall from the sky after a little argument.

Stop and think about how you met your SO. The most likely cause for meeting our other half is based on proximity (how close we lived/worked/etc to one another).

People should relax and realize just because the person you're with wasn't brought to you by some magical/invisible force, he/she can still be your 'soulmate' metaphorically. I an one of those realists, but I still call my husband my 'soulmate' because he is right for me.

To OP... What if in your case you didn't find your soul mate... Instead your hubby became your soul mate?

Personally I don't use that term. But I do believe that my hubby is my soul mate.

If not what is it called when you can finish each others sentences after 2 minutes of walking into the conversation?

Or seeing him look for something and without asking what he's looking for tell him where it's at?

Or not talking all day only to have him call you right when your ready to fall apart because everything is going wrong?... Every time without fail...?

Because if it's not a soulmate then I would love to know the proper term...

I've been with mine for almost 16 years & boy have we ha some serious struggles but he IS my souls's other half. He makes me feel complete in every way.

But I do agree with you, that belief is based on your philosophy.

In certain Native American cultures, when two people get "married", their souls become one & are intertwined for eternity. That, to me, is absolutely beautiful but I can see how someone else could be scared to death of that idea.

Both of our mothers said the day they met us & saw us together they knew we were going to be together for life. They were separate meetings & said there was no denying we were put on this earth for one another.

Is this what happens after Christmas is over and we can't have Santa debates anymore?....interesting....

well I feel like we are the ones for each other. but we have argued and I'm sure will do so in the future as well.

my proof isn't only in our love but our compatibility. we compliment each other and balance each other out.

but it is still work. I don't think there is a relationship where there is no problem. thats just a ridiculous assumption for people to go into a committed relationship with.

My dh is my soul mate and I am his. Not a doubt in my mind about that. Yes relationships can be work but mine isn't. We have the same beliefs, thought processes and wants from life. We've been together for over 3 years and married for 2 and have yet to even bicker, or any arguments beyond mild disagreements. I know what I have, what I feel. BTW I didn't believe in soul mates before I met him. I have no idea if there's anyone in this world I'm better matched for but I'm definitely not looking.

wow....

well I'm glad to call my partner my soul mate. that doesn't mean that we did not have our struggles, we've had some very serious make it or break it fights.

however, neither one of us has EVER thought of walking away. Our love is stronger and deeper, from day one.

so yes, he is my soulmate.

You may not chose to call him your soulmate or whatever. My comment was more directed towards women who stay with their baby daddy just because he got them knocked up. Or those who stay with someone who beats them or cheats on them. THOSE are not soulmates and those women are settling rather than trying to do better for themselves.

Oh please! I did not settle for my husband just because he's not my "soulmate". He is a great man and balances out a lot of my anxiety. We are a good match and we love and respect each other with all our hearts. Could there be someone else out there that is a better match for me? Possibly. Am I going to spend the rest of my life looking for him? Am I going to leave my husband if I ever meet him? No. I am my husband's wife for better or worse, in sickness and in health till death do us part. Not because he's my soulmate, but because he is the best man I know and I chose to share my life with him.

lol foxes

I feel like, sure, there are other possibilities, BUT my one of my favorite things about being in front of others with hubby, is, no matter what, someone always says, "You two are perfect for eachother" or "I'd hate to go against you two!" and just last week Rocky was doing a tattoo on a family, and one of the brothers had been here a month ago, he said "See what I had to team up against, and it was just me here!" Lol, everyone always thinks we are too cute together, and we keep everyone laughing. Its a lot of fun. I don't know about the term "soulmates" (I don't use it) but I've never had chemistry like this before with anyone else!

Eh. I'm pleased just saying my husband is perfect for me. Doesn't bother me if someone else thinks theirs is a soulmate

i feel sad for you.

I agree that a marraige/relationship is hard work. However, I often think of all the things that had to happen exactly the way they did for me and df to meet and fall in love. So maybe not soulmates, but something was at work in the universe to bring us together.

My husband is my soulmate!

I believe that some people just settle with their spouse because its easier than leaving. Many people never experience true soulmate love because they stopped looking.

No... It makes perfect sense that the one person in the entire world meant for me also happened to be in the same city and we went to the same school.

Now THAT'S written in the stars! ;)

Lovebotlass I agree. My husband is my soulmate Nd partner for life too. I'm sure I could work with Someone else, but I could never find what he and I have or anything close to it.

Haha. Everyone has their own philosophy. I believe there are a number of people that I could be compatible with... I chose the one I did, and believe me... It takes work!!! But that hard work is what makes it worth it :-) wouldn't change anything.

I see where you are coming from. very good points. I do think hard work and commitment is the way to go. and I agree with a lot of what you say. however, I do feel there are people that are meant for each other.

I find it pretty hilarious how people who have shown their true colors on social media snake away, delete the posts that outed them and come back on social media like nothing happened. Why do that, you outed yourself, so stay out. We still see you boo boo...
