I was positive with my previous pregnancy, got antibiotics started when I got the hospital. I spiked a fever while in labor which is really bad. They gave my boy some antibiotics just in case after he was born and he is a happy health 2 year old never has had anything wrong with him. :) it's ok to be scared mama but don't let it rule your life. Do what you think is best but don't let your fear of the "what if's" make your decisions for you.
It's not that big a deal, they'll just give you iv antibiotics while in labour, it's super common. Not a reason to have a csection, breath, relax go for a walk or something to unwined.
I tested positive for 2 out of 4 pregnancies. I have fast labors as well. Once I hit 4 cms its usually an hour till the baby is born and I dont really have to push. Both times I got some of the antibiotic but not the full amount. I did have to stay 2 days in the hospital but just as a precaution. Both boys were completely healthy. I know its tough not to worry.
I've tested GBS positive four times. I've delivered my first three and plan on delivering this fourth one vaginally. One time I didn't get the antibiotics in time. There's nothing to be worried about. One positive side is that you are unlikely to be turned away from getting checked in once you have signs of labor because they will start you on antibiotics right away. They will also send you home with a chart of things to watch for (color, breaths per minute, temperature).

Thank you all for reassuring me it would just kill me if she gets sick because of it. I'm praying and holding onto your kind words of reassurance thank you so much. I hope all you ladies have a good labor and rest of your pregnancy.
dr dont offer you antibiotics to deliver vaginal ??
I have it too, never had it before an I've got 2 kids already. I've been put on antibiotics at 38weeks because it was in my urine AND on the swab. Its nothing to worry about, if they don't get 4hours dosage thru IV then they keep you in just to monitor baby. I was worried at first but the more I read about it the more it puts my mind at ease. You'll be fine xxx
I wouldn't worry Mama, they will give you antibiotics during labor which means you havs a 1 in 4000 chance that your baby will be GBS positive. I'm GBS positive and allergic to both of the antibiotics offered so I just have to pray that I have a fast labor.
I was positive with my last pregnancy and didn't make it to the hospital in time for the full 4 hrs of antibiotics. My daughter is a healthy almost 5yr old. Try to relax. There is bigger risk with a C section then just delivering with positive GBS
A c section is definitely a bit extreme. Many women test positive and having healthy babies. Even without antibiotics given. I've tested positive and I'm not worried. I think you should try to relax and not stress. You see all these other women who can relate and some who've given birth multiple times being positive.
I have been GBS positive with all 4 of my previous pregnancies. I have 4 healthy girls and had no complication because of it. With my last my midwife prescribed me antibiotics 1 week prior to my due date. I also had iv antibiotics while in labor. I haven't gotten the results back with this baby yet.
I know your worried mama and thats normal and natural. But unless there would be any other reason for you need to a c-section( v-bac etc.) then delivering vaginally will likely be better for your LO than a c-section recovery. I honestly don't even think they would recommend a c-section for only testing positive GBS because it is so common.

I'm trying to hope for the best but when it's your baby it's so hard.
To give you reassurance. I tested positive with my first 2. (i don't know this time yet my swab is in 2 days and I'm guessing I will again) but both times my labour was fast....second labour I BARELY got any antibiotics and my son was born...both my children are totally ok! One is 9 years old and one is 21 months. :) both vaginal births
I tested positive as well . This is my first time testing positive as my last 2 where negative. Am having a csection because of my previous ones so it's unrelated but I have heard that it's fine to deliver they will just give u antibiotics. I have heard that people that have had csections get antibiotics anyways but just in case they don't I will ask for it. It's not good to google it's just scary. Talk to ur Dr. And they should tell u the best option for u.
Deep breaths... I just read an article about how the UK doesn't even do routine testing for Strep B. My midwife is very strict about what she allows (home birth midwife who has attended over 2,500 births) and she doesn't force antibiotics. You can have an IV antibiotic during labor and all is fine.
I just found out I tested positive for it as well. I can't remember if I had it with my other 2 kids. I'm having a c-section with this one though.
I tested positive for it. They gave me antibiotics during labor and all was fine with me and my son.
My doctor informed me that most women gets/has Group B strep but it's not a harm because they give you antibiotics while going thru labor and delivery. You don't have to have a C section because of that in my opinion.
I have read lots of posts like yours. You aren't alone in feeling scared. I did see that there are woman who are positive, don't get antibiotics and the baby is perfectly fine. It seems like the antibiotics are just a precaution and just because you have GBS, does not mean that you will pass something to baby. I think getting a c section increases your risk of so many infections or issues in itself. I would just ask your doctor for advice... good luck!
I've thought of the c section route as well but I feel like my OB will view that as too extreme of a measure. I hope you get a full 4 hour dosage in when your time comes!

I can't stop thinking that getting a c-section is a better way to go. I hope I have at least a 4-5 hr. Labor just so that the meds can get in there
Im positive for the first time and scared as well. For most women I know it's not too big of a deal but I have fast labors and my OB is already not hopeful that I will get everything in time :( I'm hoping she has some options for me at my next app
I was group b positive with a previous pregnancy and with this baby as well. I received antibiotics during labor and had no complications with me or the baby.
I thought you are given antibiotics before birth and everything was fine... ?

I am dealing with the same, found out today I am positive for group b strep. My doctor explained that having a section doesn't really decrease the riisks associated with it so not to worry. I am hoping for a vbac so I can actually choose a section if I want too.... I was torn until she calmed me down and basically explained how common it is. I don't think they do elective sections for it..
