Feel so behind!!
Like seriously, we just introduced Puffs to Layla yesterday. She will be 9 months in less than 2 weeks. She still is doing purees and oatmeal cereal only. Along with breast milk and some formula. We don't even give her water! I just see all these posts of babies younger than her eating table food. Like meats, yogurt, eggs, casseroles etc.... huh?? I just feel soooooooo behind. Then I just seen something about weaning baby off a bottle. Huh? Don't they take a bottle til age 1?? Lol I'm so out of the loop.

Sometimes i feel behind too but i just remember that they all learn/eat at different times. I didnt start solids at all until melody was 6 months old. She took purees great and now we’re on two meals a day. No oatmeal cereal but home made purees. I just started doing combo purees last week and she is doing great. This week we started doing soups i still mush the noodles up for the most part but im taking it slow. I started her on 1 oz of water per meal (2oz a day) in a nuk sippy cup the ones that are 4months + and she is doing so well with it. She is 7 months and im just taking it a step at a time.. she’ll catch up on her on time. Formula/breastmilk is the main source of nutrients until 1

Yes!!! I feel like I don't want to give her all this food yet, because I still want her main nutrition coming from my milk/formula. I tried water in a sippy cup around 7 months and she wasn't interested. But I haven't tried since. We waited to start purees at 5 months. So she's been eating her pureed fruits/veggies and oatmeal for a while. BLW is out of the question! Lol I'm way too paranoid for that. I guess I just don't know what I'm supposed to do as far as when to introduce her to foods she needs to chew.

Kam still chokes on puffs lol she only does cereal and gerber no finger foods at all

I’m the same way! Lorenzo will be 8 months on the 25th and he doesn’t even like purees, so he’s like not even having solids! We just started giving him puffs and I’m so paranoid I break them in half. I give him strawberries in his food mesh but that’s about it. Idk why he’s not interested in food it’s actually starting to concern me a little.

I was so keen on blw until my husband gave melody a piece of beef and she gagged up a storm i was like no way! My momma heart cant take this lol plus if she chokes and i cant save her (even though i am cpr certified) i wouldnt be able to live with myself. She also has zero teeth so that makes me nervous

Mirna- my mom gave her a puff yesterday, and when I picked her up, my mom said she started choking on it. Needless to say, I didn't give her any today. Ugh. Why is this so hard??!
Kayla- so are you mainly doing milk/formula?

Yes only thing he wants is boob. It’s so hard. With my first son who’s 5 now buy now he was eating eggs, puffs, strawberries and blueberries but into small pieces, spaghetti.

Try yogurt bites first. They melt much much faster
And gagging is actually a good sign because it’s teaching them to not put the food that far back and the mush it down more. Also always remember the finger swipe. If you’re really concerned, hook your finger in their mouth and swipe it out.
Parker doesn’t like puffs but LOVES yogurt melts. I also started him on rice to see if he could feed himself. The first time he wasn’t interested and the after that he started feeding himself no problem. Just pace yourself ☺️

I hate the puffs!! I tried a ton that i thought were too slow or hard to breakdown. I found happy baby creamies are the best at dissolving with minimal effort and they actually taste delicious.
Don't worry about the foods. A lot of moms do the baby led weaning and some do an accelerated traditional weaning meaning they go quick through purees to small food pieces. I'm about to start sam on the stage 3 baby foods so she can get used to small pieces. I do a combo of making my own and using store bought.

Totally agree! I think everyone worries they are behind at some point or another. Lord knows I do. But you know your baby, and you have instincts. It’s okay to trust them! We just slowly started introducing eggs, peanut butter, and very soft steamed veggies. Every once and a while we will give him puffs and yogurt melts to work on his fine motor skills...but we are still mainly on formula & purées too. Doc said water isn’t necessary until one year. He’s not in to his sippy cup either, so we don’t push it. Remember that none of our parents had the internet telling them “the best way” and we all turned out fine! Try not to worry. ?

I was the same! I felt like we were very behind I’d only ever feed LO when the SO was home, even purées...but now Sean is 8 months and has only been having table food for about a month now. Sean is much better with his food now and he hasn’t gagged on any food since I stopped purées.
I feed him breastmilk 15 mins before we sit down to eat, I put him a little of everything we are eating on his high chair and he eats with us. Then I offer breastmilk afterwards aswell. Breastmilk will be his main source of nutrition until 12 months. Then he eats as much and as often as he likes in between.
My SIL told me a very good saying “food before 1 is just for fun” so even if he doesn’t eat anything and just plays with it I’m happy he is learning and feeling the different textures and with him feeding himself I know he isn’t being overfed which I love.
The discussion of weaning has come up (my SO wants me to stop at 12mnths but I want to keep going) 12 months is a must for us, anything over 12months is a bonus.

I feel the same..so paranoid! The puffs scare me for some reason too. One thing I do let him have is the mum mum rusks. He absolutely loves them and does SO well with them. He has never gagged on them like he has with puffs. They are great when you're out and about too!

I second the baby mum mums! Kennedy LOVES them

May, I'm sure you've absolutely nothing to worry about. The main thing is that Layla is getting a good variety of vitamins and minerals.
One thing I'll have to say is try to trust her with some soft lumps. Even without any teeth a baby will use their hard gums at the back to mash down little lumps.
The reason why it's a good idea to set that in motion as you can, or you might find she gets very picky about lumps or pieces of food. I have heard of children that won't eat yogurt with pieces of fruit in it because they don't like the lumps / texture.
Honestly, when I had my eldest boy I was afraid of everything. I started him off on jars of food because I thought it's what I *had* to do. A few months into weaning I did my research and bought a blender so I could blend down our own meals for him. Because I started this late with him he can be a bit difficult - as a 16yr old! to eat all of his veggies, and some fruit. He tells me he doesn't like texture of certain things, such as mushrooms.
I don't feel bad about it (I sneak other things into his food he doesn't know about ?).. but this Mommy thing is a big learning curve. By the time I had my second son, I never bought a packet or jar of anything. I went straight to my own meals and he is a fantastic eater. Millie is the same now. Smooth or lumpy, whatever the flavour she gobbles down the lot.
Start slowly, but trust Layla. She's got this, so do you ??

We do BLW and Miller has no interest. I try and offer food twice a day but he just plays. We tried pures and he just kept ripping the spoon out of my hand. They say food before one is just for fun so I don’t really push it. I have a friend who did formula only till 1 and he’s a happy 18 month old who eats EVERYTHING. I definitely think it depends on the baby!

I can relate!! My LO still does veggie purees only (she doesn't like fruits) we do num nums and puffs, but she's become less interested in those. I break cheerios in half. Last week we tried little pieces of noodles. With my first we did the same. No milk until 1. I feel behind lol but she's just not into real food...

My little one is almost 9 months and has no interest in food what so ever, she ate like a champ for all off like 3 days about a month back and that’s it. I’ve been trying her on solids from 5 months and she just point blank refuses. She has been referred to a dietitian. @mommakayla They said as long as she’s drinking formula/breast milk and not under weight not to worry to much as that should be her main source of nutrition until 1. They are starting her on speech therapy in February because she has a few health conditions with her airway/throat they worry a little that she won’t develop the reflex to chew properly so it’s to help strengthen her throat walls/muscle
deleted-user·
@cathy how did the discover that?
deleted-user·
She was diagnosed at birth and had to have an operation. She goes for her first speech therapy lesson in 3weeks to help with feeding so I’ll let you know what they say
