Rant! My sitter used cottonelle wet wipes on my baby! Now she has huge rash!!! I totally get that my SO forgot to put…

I guess I'm in the minority but I wouldn't be too happy if my baby had a really bad rash, either. Especially since the babysitter is aware of how sensitive the baby's skin is and knows she can't use certain products on her.

Op said she had washcloths that could have been used with water to wipe the baby, or she could have easily rinsed her off in the bath.

It could be a worse situation, yes. But now the poor baby has a rash because daddy forgot to put the wipes back in the bag and the sitter used the wrong wipes. I'm sure it won't happen again, though.

Yes I watch the news and I've watched videos on abusive care takers. I know all to well about daycare centers. And yes I'm lucky for this to be my only complaint. Either way I have the right to rant.

Thank you @danielle. I hope so too. And I still don't understand why sitting in a poopy diaper is the only solution people have for her to go to the store. Wet wash cloth or a bath is suffice. At the same time tell me my SO was a derp and forgot the wipes. Then together we could have chose the best option together. My bad I would like to work as a team instead of an over protective new mother.

Why can't OP be upset that her daughter has a rash that could've been prevented? She never said anything bad about the babysitter she was just ranting on a rant forum.

OP I would be upset as well but now the sitter knows that those aren't good for your baby. Hope her rash goes away soon!

Oh for the love of god. She was taking care of your child and you're mad at her for using what she had because your SO didn't supply her with what she needed?

You say she could have gone to the store, but sitting in a poopy diaper for the time it would take to go to the store could very well also cause a rash. This isn't her fault. This is your SO's fault.

Also, I understand that your baby is hurting...but accidents happen. It was an accident on your babysitters part and on your husbands part. I don't think either one of them should have to be reprimanded.

Sounds like you have a really great babysitter actually. Buys her clothes and toys?...AND takes her places. Cares about her enough to not make her have to sit in her own poop for an extra 20 min? Parents like you are one of the main reasons I stopped doing childcare in my home.

I don't even think a rant about your hubby would make sense. Everyone forgets stuff occasionally. It was an accident. A sucky accident but an accident nonetheless.

I know about bad diaper rashes , my daughter has sensitive skin like holy hell, it's sad when it happens but were only humans. I just think the blame shouldn't have been on the sitter.

Maybe she thought it wasn't a big deal to use what she had and was going to tell you that you didn't make sure your daughter had what she needed when you picked her up. If she really has that sensitive of skin, sitting in a poopy diaper while she went all the way to the store wouldn't have been good for her either.

This should have been my baby has a rash because my goofball husband used the diaper bag wipes and didn't put them back. My sitter had some cottonelle wipes on hand and used those for the diaper change?. I've spoken to both about the rash and have told my husband to make sure he puts the wipes back if he's going to use them.

I've said I'm upset with my SO. I don't only use one bag of wipes. He used what was in the bag. We talked about it. He knows my frustration. I've talked to my sitter about her sensitive skin. I've never used cottonelle wipes myself because of my skin sensitivity. I can't use things like that. My sitter buys things because she wants to, not because my child needs anything. I pack everything she needs. Toys, extra outfits and always make sure there are plenty wipes along with diapers. She could have given her a bath even. I pack extra soaps, lotions and wash cloths. She didn't have to leave her in a dirty diaper. There were other options. I'm upset because she didn't communicate that the wipes weren't packed. I can rant over that. And there were other options. She gave her a bath because her neck was sticky from medicine she gave her. I don't see how a poopy diaper would have been different. In the end she had other options than to use other wipes on her. Like I said, she knows of her skin sensitivity. I've told her numerous times. To communicate with me is not much to ask for. My SO knows I'm mad at him for forgetting to put the wipes back in. My mistake for ranting about anything. Most of the women on here are judgemental and non supportive. Maybe it's time I deleted this app. Just as much drama as any other social media site. Excuse me for ranting in the rant group.

So she should have stopped changing the diaper in the middle of it to text you to tell you YOUR SO forgot to pack stuff.

She used what she could. Your child isn't going to be traumatized over a rash. s*** happens. Would you rather her left your child unclean at all? Take a chill pill. Your SO should be the one you're mad at. Not the sitter.

Are the ingredients not almost the same? Aside from the cottonelle wipes are flushable and baby wipes aren't? I would have thought they were fine to use on a baby as well. Your daughter is young, you and her sitter are still learning what breaks her out and what doesn't, it's not like she did it on purpose. Let her know about the rash and from now on make sure her diaper bag is packed with everything she'll need. Hope she feels better soon.

Maybe she thought you started using those instead of wipes. I agree with PP, you shouldn't be mad at her, you should take to DH and let him know to not make that mistake again.

I buy a box of wipes that are in individual packs & leave a pack in her bag all the time.

Just because she buys other things for you child does not mean she should have went and bought he wipes because your SO forgot them. She did what she could with the circumstances. She could have used a wet paper towel which would have hurt a lot more at the time then a cottenelle wipe.

So your babysitter buys her clothes and toys. Takes her out. Has a car seat in her car that your daughter can go in and updates you throughout the day and you are upset about her using her own wipes?

Maybe she should be ranting about you.

If I was in that situation I probably would have used the wipes too. I don't think that's wrong of her. I'm sure she didn't know they would cause a rash.

You shouldn't be ranting about her. It's the parents responsibility to make sure the baby has everything needed when leaving them with a sitter.

Unless you've told the sitter previously that using any other kind of wipes were a no-no than this rant is ridiculous

A wet wash cloth works too! I have this packed in the diaper bag with bags to store for me to wash later. Again if she had said my SO forgot I'd have suggested to use them. I literally have 10 little wash cloths in her bag, just in case. Yes it is my responsibility to make sure she has what she needs. The bag was packed before I left for work, her dad forgot to put them back after changing her. I am upset with him about it. He knows more than anyone else about our skin sensitivity.

Aquaphor. It'll probably be gone in a day top.

Yesterday my sil took my baby swimming and just had her in shorts, no diaper and she got a rash. I was annoyed but I can't be annoyed with her cos how was she supposed to know the water would irritate her skin. I just applied aquaphor around 7pm and today it's gone. Not even a full 24 hours later.

Eta : also , if she would have let the poop sit and waited for you to bring wipes , your baby could've also gotten a rash that way. ?

If her skin is so sensitive it's up to her parents to make sure all needed supplies are sent. Doesn't matter how close the store is once there is poop in the diaper. Should she put the dirty diaper back on and strap her in the car seat?

Aw, poor thing. I watched my niece and she was very prone to rashes I definitely wouldn't have used just anything on her, if anything she probably should have used a wet washcloth. Your rant makes sense with the backstory.

I told my SO after I picked her up. I let him know my frustration. I'll leave extra things at her house to prevent it in the future. I feel so bad for DD though. It looks pretty painful.

I understand your frustration. Poor babies bum. She could of used a warm wet cloth to clean her bum. Much more gentle on a sensitive bum.

But she didn't tell me he forgot them. I've told her a few times that sensitive skin runs in my family. I've said that she has to use the same wipes. Pampers wipes gives her a rash too, has to be for sensitive skin and no fragrance. I may be being ridiculous but I still think she should have said something, asked me of they would be ok. I've had conversations with her about soaps too. I'm sure it was innocent but this rash is huge. So I ranted.

If I were in her situation, I would have done the same thing.

Maybe she didn't know they were bad to use? Put some cream on the rash and take a deep breath. Shat happens.

You're SO forgot the wipes, she made due with what she had and your rant is about her? Sorry, this is absurd.

Clearly she didn't think it would cause a reaction and she thought using wipes she had at the house was a better option than bothering you all at work, or making your daughter sit in a dirty diaper for another 10 minutes while she walked to and from the store.

Sucks that your daughter had a reaction but your sitter did nothing wrong IMO.

I don't think she meant to harm your child. She probably didn't even know you hadn't packed any until they were needed. Then at that time she used what she had.

Honestly I wouldn't of thought twice about usuing them on my dd. Obviously sensitive skin caused her to have a reaction. It's frustrating but nothing to get overly upset about.

I've used cottonelle wipes on both of my babies before and they never got a rash. I think you need to cut her some slack, sounds like an honest mistake on her part. How could she have known it would cause a rash? I doubt she maliciously tried to harm your baby. Get some desitin, pack the wipes next time, and let it go.
