At what age did your children start riding a bike? My almost 5 year old is terrified of riding his bike. What can I do to get him over that fear?!? Any tips are really appreciated

My 4 year old was afraid, my dh had the idea of going for a long walk one day and told him he could either ride his bike or go in the stroller like a baby, that only lasted once then every day he was out practicing.

Does he have training wheels on it?

Both right before they turned 3 they started in the house since it was cold out when they got their first big kid bikes.

By spring they were outside with them. I don't know how to deal with fear since mine didn't experience that. But maybe a few inside lessons on how to sit on the bike and learning about all the parts etc...

I think we are going to start with a toddler balance bike and (hopefully) skip training wheels altogether. Maybe one of those if he isn't too big? I've heard it really helps teach and build confidence.

Maybe let him watch YouTube videos of other kids riding? I've seen lots of cute videos of the balance bikes.

My kids were afraid to ride bikes too. They learned to ride dirt bikes at 5 and 4 without training wheels though, so i dont know. ?‍♀️ and then after that they decided to ride bikes at 6 and 5.

My daughter started on a trike at 2. Now(3) she has a bike with training wheels and we are thinking of getting her a balance bike for her 4th birthday. My friend started her son on a balance bike at 3 and now he's 4 and able to ride a bike with no training wheels.

Do you have a bike you could ride to show him? My 2 year old rides a balance bike pretty well and a bike with training wheels. We wanted to skip the training wheels thing but his grandparents got him one for their house and he loves it.

Balance bike is the key. I haven’t seen lalapoopsie on here forever, but her daughter was a little BMX rider in the making by 3. It was pretty impressive. We are getting our 2.5 year old her first balance bike this weekend.

My son was 3yrs and about 2/30ish months when he learned how to ride a bike.

We got him a strider bike at like 1.5 and he rode that forever. Then one day he just said "I don't need training wheels anymore." And he rode a regular bike. I really didn't do anything to "make him ride early."

He loves riding bikes so much now and I got him a bmx bike that we take to the tracks regularly. I dont think you can push a kid to riding soon if it's nit something they are into.

My mom got my son a balance bike for Christmas at a year and a half. He is 2 years 3 months and flies on that thing inside and outside! He LOVES his bike! He will still have to learn to pedal once he gets older and he tries riding his bike with training wheels but he isn't quite tall enough yet.

Both boys started on balance bikes at 2. My oldest started riding a pedal bike without training wheels just before he turned 4. I think my youngest will be ready for a pedal bike by the time he turns 3. Maybe try a balance bike or make the seat low enough so he has lots of control with his feet and practice riding in the grass in case he does fall.
