Schools been closed the past 2 days in indiana for extreme cold -10 degrees with windchills in the -40s
Montgomery county didn't close but I kept mine home because 1 my older son has to go in between buildings for classes 2 my other ds is in a trailer with a portable heater and yesterday it was 25-30 and they wore coats all day freezing 3 my oldest has asthma real bad and 4 our buses have no heat
They canceled school all together in tn no snow no ice just cold wind chill is -20 they don't want the babies freezing walking to school or waiting at the bus stops
In Kentucky we are currently right at 0F. School was canceled yesterday and today bc of the temperature. I support the decision. Some parents are not able/willing to drive their children to school or bus stop and keep them warm. It is way to cold for these kids to wait outside for a bus. Especially if you factor in the windchill, making about -25.
Psh half the schools are closed now
Not only in Virginia. That's pretty much the norm here in the South.
They cancelled school for I think 3 counties in FLORIDA strictly because it's cold. No ice. No snow. Just cold. Lol
I'm in Baltimore MD it was a two hour delay today because it was so cold. But it's never really that cold here so I understand we're not used to it.
It's negative 5 here and we've been closed theist two days! Thanks goodness!
School has been canceled here in Missouri since yesterday. We had a blizzard though over the weekend. We got 10-12 inches of snow and some areas it's 18 inches or deeper from snow drifts. The roads are also iced over still. The highway department can't get them clean because it keeps freezing. It's also a HOT -10 degrees here as well.
Closed where I am in MD also. They have to count for the children who walk to school and have to stand outside and wait for their bus. Right now with wind chill it's -15 where I live, it takes 10 minutes to get hypothermia or frost bite in those temperatures. I'm glad kids are staying home honestly. Especially when those temps are not the normal here so we don't have the proper clothing for weather like this. Yes if you live in Alaska or parts of Canada it's probably laughable but they are more accustomed to those temps and better prepared.
In Louisiana school started 2 hrs later than normal because of the cold & I'm glad because I don't want my dd out in this freeze so early I'm the morning.
It's been close to -50 with the windchill a few days this past week in northern Alberta. Our schools never close here just incase someone sends their kids to school and it's closed (they would freeze). I dnt think I ever missed the fact we never have snow days here as a kid tho.
They canceled schools yesterday and today in a few counties in... FLORIDA!! Lmao
It's like that in NC too. But I believe their under a 3 hour delay, no snow or ice. Just cold. 7 degrees.
You must be in Hampton roads lol.
The closed schools here in Chicago for the second day due to the cold. I think it's a good thing they did. Most kids walk and would be frost bitten before reaching school with the windchill reaching -40. Currently it's -10 not including the windchill.
No school here in Pa bc of the cold.
Aly - for those kids whose parents can't afford coats what are the parents supposed to do when schools are closed and now they don't have child care and can't go to work?
Buses can run in the cold. You warm them up. Should they close schools any time it's 32 or below? Where's the limit? What temperature?
Yes I think it's silly. But I've also seen them close schools because they think it might snow. And it doesn't. So I made a joke of it.
Yes it's cold. Colder than it normally gets here. Yes that can be dangerous if you're exposed too long and not covered. But I've never seen schools close because its cold before. So I think it's funny.
Were in PA and all schools are closed cause its so cold here!!!
In aberdeen south dakota, where we live, there is snow and its -7...theres still school on time. Heck the kids here still have a 15 minute recess until it reaches -10. After that they stay inside
In Canada it's like - 40 right now with a good foot of snow that froze solid last night. Uhh.. buses are still running and no delays lol.
Which part of Virginia do you live?
They cancelled here in Ohio bcuz of temps. It was -13 though.
We don't even cancel outdoor recess for that weather here in Minnesota ;)
Although schools have been closed yesterday and today for the cold, it's a little colder here though.
School fees Having an intense debate on Facebook about school fees for public school. I'm in the "stop whining about school fees and stop having kids if you can't afford them" camp and there is the other camp of "free school is a constitutional right! It's bull s*** we have to pay anything at all".
graduate What year did you graduate high school?
I’m thinking of pull my daughter from her school and into home school because of the sex Ed coming to her school. How is home schooling.?
Transgender children So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. So the entire school had to take a course on how to handle transgender children. For example they can't say girls go this or boys do that. What are your thoughts on the matter? Do u think the parents are behind this? Idk because I haven't met the parents or children. I just think at 5 it's very young for children to really understand. What do u ladies think?
