Have you ever went...
Somewhere public and realize that your parenting and your children aren't as "bad" as you thought??
@mama I take her to.the store because one of our goals is for her to be out in public and a functioning member of society. We prep before hand and read a social story, get a reward board and rewards ready and do what people do I life!! I hate grocery delivery services I have used them before. If anyone thinks that people with children with Autism shouldn't do normal everyday things that is sad.
Oh man, just the other day I was outside playing with dd and some of our neighbors’ kids. One kid who’s 7-8 and doesn’t really hangout with us much, came by with a multi-tool and was showing it off to the other kids. I didn’t really notice it until I was sitting with dd try to play bubbles with her and the kid comes up right next to me with the serrated knife part out. I was like ‘wtf?’. I asked him to put it away bc it’s sharp and he shouldn’t be playing with it (he was like petting the sharp edges with one of his fingers). He was said “no, it’s not even sharp! Ugh!” I told him it’s still a knife and it could hurt someone and asked him again to put it away. He refused to and just took off on his bike bc the other kids didn’t even care about it anymore.
He even came back the next day and did the same thing over again but it was in front of one of my neighbor’s! He got all upset and huffy when she told him to put it away or else she’d find his parents and tell them (they don’t live in our small circle of houses so we have no idea where his parents even are!).

I get it, your child might have autism or special needs. Why subject them to being upset in public if you don't have to? I'm never the one to judge a mom at all but all of the fuss just seems so stressful to the mom. Most grocery stores offer pick up or delivery nowadays. You don't have to make it a scene in public. My kid has meltdowns but he is 1 and we leave our cart in the store if he's upset. I just don't understand the whole entire show in a store. Whether your kid has a disability or is tired... Why make it harder on yourself? I don't even care about people thinking you're a bad parent.. I'm thinking of the excruciating anxiety your kid has every time you drag him to a store he isn't comfortable at.
I was in a home improvement store and this kid in a shopping cart with I assume the parents...just started screaming---not words, but just screaming... So loud you couldn't talk, in the same aisle.
Was with one of the workers, and we played it off to leave the aisle...and agreed, we ever did that, we got smacked upside the head when we were little.
The mother, I assume the mother, just looked at him like she was used to it.... didn't tell him to quiet down, no look of embarrassment that you kid is heard in the entire store....
When we passed by them again, the kid had some kind of muffin he was eating.
He had to be older than my DD by about a year, and all she said was, why is the boy screaming?
No doubt an unpopular opinion BUT I am actually over the excuses of you don't know if a kid has autism/aspergers or whatever so don't judge a parent. It has hit the stage of a parent will literally say it and blame it for their own child's behaviour even when that child hasn't been diagnosed. So yep, if I see a kid running amok and being an arse while the parent does jack s*** I'll judge away. If the child does have autism, aspergers or some other issue the parent should be there anyway supervising and if they aren't they are just asking to be called crappy parents.
If a kid is being an arse and the parent is trying their hardest to handle that situation then no judgement from me, just sympathy on the trials of parenthood.
This past summer, I worked at babies r us. One morning, there was a mom who was pregnant and then had three other kids. A girl who had to be at least 12. Another girl who was probably 6-8 and then a one year old boy. Through out the entire store, these kids were making a complete disaster. I get kids touch things, but the mom allowed them to be loud, throw things and just make a mess. Eventually they make their way to check out, I started checking them out, when the mom forgets something so she goes to get it, leaving the kids at the register. The boy was eating lil crunchies that they had to pay for (that's fine) but he started throwing the them at me. I let the first one go, and didn't say anything. Second one, I asked kindly to stop. Mind you, the mom isn't here right now and the older daughter just watched it happen, and she obviously knew better. The little boy continues throwing them at me and I asked again for him to stop and he thought it was funny and continued to do it. By this time I was pissed. The mom finally comes back, and the little boy continues and finally the mom says to stop. Well now, he started throwing them at a dad that was in line next to my register. The dad was nice about it and awkwardly laughed at first and then the boy kept doing it and the dad asked him to stop. The mom say it happening and just didn't say anything when clearly people were annoyed by it. She also made her transaction hell btw... Well after this lady left, I looked at my co-worker and told her that I need to go take a break. I was so frustrated and on top of that, pregnant and very nauseous.
I was at the park with my daughter one day and there was this other family there also. The little girls looked to be about 4&5. I'm assuming it was there dad, told them they were leaving. They asked "where are we going?" And he replied, " to hell if we don't change our ways" I was like.. what the f!! It was really creepy and I just felt so sorry for the girls..
I wasn't there so I don't know if the child was in danger or not. I sometimes start walking away so my DD will get up and follow. Sounds like the mom went to get the child a comfort item to try and defuse a stressful situation for both mom and child!!! Trust me I know I am being judged when my DD is having meltdowns and some days I want to yell at the top of my lungs "she has Autism stop staring" but I just go about my business and ignore the stares and dirty looks, from ignorant people who don't know the struggle.
I was the bad mom yesterday ?
my 3 year old had his first wee ball practice, and he was super excited. It was at the park, so before we left I made sure that he understood he was there to play with his team, and not on the slides. I also made sure that he knew if he didn’t want to participate, he would sit on the side and watch the other kids, because he was part of a team. He agreed and was super excited to play with “his team”. It went really well for about 15 minutes, until the coach touched his shoulders and scooted him to where he needed to stand. It completely freaked him out and he lost it. He sat in the grass crying the rest of the practice that he wanted to leave. It was so embarrassing.
@reanna i know as parents we all have bad days but even if this child had autism or special needs that I couldn't visibly see.. leaving him alone near the playground around strangers probably isn't the correct way to handle the situation. Imho.
To the first poster, do you know of the child had special needs?? My 3 year old has Autism and hates the store but I need to get things done so some days she is in the carriage screamed or walking and throwing her self on the ground not because I am a bad parent. Don't judge unless you have walked in those parents shoes. Not all disabilities are visible.
Hairdresser here , the worst parenting I have ever seen is a lady bought her 4 year old son in for a cut and he hates them she warned me I was pregnant at the time and get kicked me punched me in the stomach then I stopped and said sorry I’m pregnant and I can’t continue to do his hair I went to lean over to grab my duster and he bit my arm !!!! She laughed and goes it’s so unprofessional for u to do a half ass hair cut ( I was getting someone to finish it) so me being hormonal said we’ll get your kid to stop kicking me and biting me ... he drew blood my boss asked them to leave and got there contact details incase anything happened he kicked me like three times and purposely I’d move and he’s reach around and do it on the third time I just grabbed his leg but the parent didn’t even scold him !!!!! I was shocked then rung our owner and told him I needed to be fired
Today!!!
I was checking out at the dollar store. The lady in front of me had a maybe 6 month old and 4 year old. The 4 year old was feeding the baby ice cream. The baby starts screaming and the 4 year old says there was a bee on her and he tried taking it off her. The Mom screams at the 4 year old and slaps him saying you scared her. I go up to the front of the line.(my turn) and I see a bee on the ground. I felt so bad for the 4 year old for being treated that way.
I used to manage a kids portrait studio. I have nightmares about some of the kids I used to see. It was incredible. I had a family with 4 kids come in one time the oldest was 11 and had this smart mouth just being a general jerk and he knew it. The 3 younger kids were decent but he was awful and I bribed him (with moms permission) that he could pick out a video to put on after we were done while I helped his mom pick out pictures. He kept the attitude so I let his little sister pick and he was so confused. I can guarantee he’d never had actual repercussions. His mom even thanked me for handling him because “she just couldn’t.” I seriously wanted to smack her. Like it’s only gonna get worse when he’s a teenager and bigger than you.
The McDonald's near me were just opened after renovations and you have to order your self on the kiosk and they have all the cups lined up right next to the kiosks and this girl was standing there pounding and sneezing all over the cups and then pulled out a ton of them and threw them on the floor, there were a lot of people in there so I have no clue which ones were her parents but nobody bothered to stop her. My kids just stood there watching her with their mouths open in shock and my 5yr old whispered to her older sister, we'd be in timeout if we did something like that it's not nice. We ended up walking out without ordering cause I didn't want to get everyone sick from those nasty cups and the baby was only a month old and I didn't want to risk her catching something serious.
@natbeee omg. I would be furious! I won't even let my kids walk alone near a shallow pond.. let alone a beach! There has been so many freak accidents that's been happening that I wouldn't take the chance of having my children out of my sight.. ever!
Like, the accident near Disney World where a little boy was playing on the beach and an alligator came up to him! ?.
My friends have a 3 y/o who is going to be 4 that is crazy out of control sometimes. My son is 2 and he's pushed him down, thrown toys at his head, and even locked him in a closet in the dark. He isn't as bad with him as he was before but still picks on him a bit. He will take toys away from him and try to push him over. He has bitten, hit, and pushed other kids, even bit our other friends son on the cheek. Bit and pushed another kid after he was told to leave her alone after he pushed her down once before. Mom believes in talking and explaining. If they try to put him in timeout he will run screaming and they try to pick him up he cries and starts kicking and hitting whoever touches him until you let go and they just let him run off. He really just lacks discipline.
Hitting everyone and especially biting (he knows it's wrong) would be a straw breaker for me if that was my son. Obviously talking it out has no effect on his behavior. She tries to follow articles she reads but he seems like he is far past that.
I actually witnessed it today. I went for My six week check up and I saw a lady literally just walk away from her toddler for 15 minutes. She didn't even look at him once to see where he went or what he was doing. He was just standing at the door crying. I went in for my doctor appointment then when I came out she was on her phone with her back turned towards him. She didn't even realize he literally tore up a rubber strip that runs along the front door. He threw a bunch of rubber at my dh when he walked by and we laughed.
Omg yes. We were traveling back to Cali via greyhound. Our toddlers were playing nearby, I was keeping an eye on them. Then this lady with her toddler that looked around maybe 2 years old. Her toddler was wandering off near my toddlers, her mom came over and started to drag her by her hair. It was so sad, I was going to say something but someone else beat me to it. I still feel bad for that little girl.
Im that parent every one stops to look at and probably talk about how horrible my parenting skills are.. but what people dont know is that my 2.5 yr old has no limits, I have tried everything!! Yet she doesnt listen and when told to stop she does nothing but throw tantrums, her 1.5 yr sister follows (monkey see, monkey do).
My girls being wild, acting up, throwing tantrums, will not stop me from going out with them...
Unfortunately some people are quick to judge the parents but dont realize that some kids are harder to deal with than others.
Oh there’s one girl who was part of my Ds’s Tball team and unfortunately part of his soccer team too. Kid obviously didn’t want to play. She refused to participate and whine and cry the whole time. I mean, if your kid doesn’t want to do sports, don’t force them. But instead of actually dealing the mom would threaten her. “I’ll cal your dad”, “well just leave”, “I won’t get you ice cream afterwards”. And of course she never once followed through. And the mother was just as whiny as the kid. Oy. Wanted to punch out my own eardrums.
@dragon lol same! Dh always thought our son was such a cry baby until he saw the kid at the park. He looked over at me in shock haha.
I've never used a pacifier with my children.. is 3 years a little old for one?
Chantilly, omgsh you just reminded me of when my 4 year old was like 18 months. Some little girl in God awful f*** ing ugly cheap jeggings kept pushing my girl at McDonald's. I'd had enough and finally yelled "who's kid is this?!" Some dude somewhere yells "which one?!" And I say "The one with..the ...PANTS" And her mother scurried right over obviously knowing it was her child ??
Wow.. I agree pp. McDonald's play place is like, the Walmart of food places. Crazy kids running around unsupervised and their parents get offended if someone says anything to their kids. Ridiculous.
McDonald's has to be the worst. We took the girls there and a kid kept pushing all the kids. When he pushed alisa and she started to cry I told him to stop touching her and his mom got up and started yelling at me to not talk to her kid that way. That he was fine and I should worry about my kids instead of someones elses. ? I was so mad I didn't hold my tounge and told her to get her kid under control. I was paying attention to MY kid while HER kid was hitting her. She said whatever and left. Bye lady.
When I worked at a grocery store in high school a little girl (about 5) climbed onto my conveyor belt and jumped on it and she peed her pants all over it. Her mom laughed and pulled her off putting her in the cart. Meanwhile the second sister is climbing onto the same spot. When I asked her to please get down so I could clean it up before it got on the groceries the mom went off on me saying that I wasn’t her daughters boss ?
All the time. I've seen toddlers clearly older than my 3 year old, running all over the place and whenever the parent tries to get them to calm down and to stay by them. A huge tantrum starts.
We dont go out much to stores or restaurants. But whenever we do its a treat for him. He likes to go on "adventures" thats why i think he never really acts up.
(We dont stay indoors 24/7 i let him play in our driveway to color with chalk and he sits out on the back porch to play with balls and playdoh)
Yes! My dd is pretty well behaved for a 3.5 year old. She has meltdowns and fits for sure but rarely when we're out.
When I was working in retail a mom had her son with her. He was maybe 2-2.5. He kept touching things (as toddlers do) and from the get go she was raising her voice at him. I get it, I'm a mom too. It was probably a long day of shopping and she was tired of him touching things.
Then he drops a box off the shelf and I was like "It's ok, I'll get it. Accidents happen ?" then she proceeds to slap his hand probably 4 or 5 times and is yelling at him about touching things. So I just stood there astounded. We don't discipline our daughter that way and I don't care if other people do it but in public? I thought it was ridiculous tbh.
The other night at work we had a father come in with his kids, they were all over 7 but he yelled SO loud at them. Like everyone in the store could hear, we’re not sure what it was about but it sure caused a scene. Then he comes up to the till like nothing happened it was weird. Like I’m all for kids needing discipline but he didn’t need to be that loud my god ??♀️
We were at a McDonald’s indoor playground when my girls were small. We were with a group of my girlfriends and their kids, all around 4 years old. I also had my youngest dd, who was around 9 months old at the time. The kids were playing on the playground and we were sitting at a table right beside the playground. There was a little clear area that was boxed in next to me with a steering wheel in it. I sat the baby in there so she could play but be out of the way of the kids running around. It was only our group in there, or so I thought. All of a sudden, a little boy, around 3 or 4 came from inside the play area and ran into the box where my dd was playing and grabbed her from behind and put her in a headlock! I jumped up and grabbed her from him and told him never to grab a baby like that. I asked where his mommy was because we were the only adults in the area, there was a door that separated the play place from the restaurant. He pointed at a lady and her friend sitting in the restaurant. I took him out to her and told her what happened. She acted like it was no big deal whatsoever to leave her kid alone in the playground or the fact that he grabbed a little baby by the neck. She took him to the counter and bought him a freaking ice cream. I was steamed that I gathered up my kids and left.
I got an older lady b**** ing to call CPS on me because I raised my voice to get my sons attention so he didn't run out into the parking lot when he was 2.5 years old. We were at Walmart and I was pushing the full cart so I trusted my son to walk by me. He got ahead of me so getting his attention I raised my voice and said "stop Bryce wait for mom!" And this old lady behind me told me to never raise my voice at my son and that she would call cps on me. I told her to f*** off and keep walking. She had me so heated because she would rather of had my son walk out to the parking lot than me get my sons attention. I was pissed.

How old?
How old were you when you lost your virginity?

How do you like your steak?
Just by taking your children out into public, they are learning. It's a huge teaching experience even for those who it is difficult for.
If my child screams, that's not the worst deal. I'll calm him as I can or distract him. (He's 1). He's still learning to be quiet.
If my child makes a mess, he cleans it up (the bigger boys). He's learning to respect property that he is still learning doesn't belong to him. Things for sale seem to have no owner to kids until you explain the whole process of making and buying to them.
My eldest is still learning confidence and that the actions of his brothers aren't his own or anything to be embarrassed by. He's learning to support their random dancing and bad jokes.
Yes, a parent should be present at all times. But I will say I am more likely to be a bad mom when micro managing as it gives me anxiety to not be able to control my Littles like cute robots. If I stay a few feet away and step in when actually nessecary I'm less likely to yell, whisper threat or just be mean by being short and not explaining anything and doing the whole because I said so bit.
So I don't judge a mom ignoring her child whining, a baby screaming or things that it might be better that she doesn't acknowledge that aren't hurting anyone. And I feel terrible for the kids and parents when an adult runs flat out of patience.
But I definitely judge absent parents paying no mind to their kids.
My husband parents in public as he does in private, dad voice and all. So seeing the "if that's how they parent out in public imagine what goes on behind closed doors" just makes me cringe. We should all keep our parenting consistent (minus the spanking for most) public or private.
