My hubby and I finally chose a name for our baby girl! Isla, pronounced eye-la! Just not sure if we should keep the original spelling like “island” or go with iyla,... what do you guys think? I’m scared people who don’t know the name are going to pronounce it “is-la”

@phoebe26 ehh it's life. Somebody will pronounce it wrong either way you spell it, so you may as well spell it how you want. My name is Alexis and I've literally had people call me Alex as if the end doesn't exist at all.
I think you’ll be fine! It’s number 86 on the Top 100 Baby Names for 2018, and it was number 90 in 2017. I think people are learning now that Isla is pronounced “eye-la” since it’s becoming pretty common. I just had a coworker name her daughter Isla and I can’t get enough of it! It’s so feminine and pretty!

I like isla. But personally I like unique names where there's silent letters and stuff
It's a beautiful name. I've liked it since I found out that Isla Fisher want Amy Adams lol. Not too many people have it.
