Naming your baby. Would you give your baby a name you can't pronounce? Serious question.

My best friend in middle school was half Korean and named Sara. Her mother born and raised in Korea still had a thick accent and called her Sariah lol we always made fun of her crazy ass mom.

SO wanted to give our son a Nepalese name - because that's what he is. But I literally couldn't pronounce 98% of the names, so they were off the table.

So, my answer to your question is No I wouldn't name my child something I couldn't pronounce.

I know families like that and it's usually the grandmother that cannot pronounce the names. And yes the children I know call their grandmother's mom or mommy.

If I can't pronounce it myself, it wasn't even on the list!

We had to cross the name Tristan off the table because dh cant say it. We were saying names and I said Tristan, he looks at me and says 'I want our son to know I love him, lets pick a name I can pronounce properly.' Lol, he's a goof sometimes.

Sounds like something my grandmother would say. My nephews name is nathan she calls him 19 my son's name is aiden and she calls him alien. LO was due last week's name is Jameson ace she called him yam-son ass -_- I think it's just them being to lazy to actually say it.. because she can say the names but she's just lazy

She called her "mommy" so I'm thinking it was her mom.

I personally wouldn't I'm going through custody court for my niece due to some issues between her parents and on her birth certificate her name is spelled kayolaneigh but her parents are always telling people the wrong spelling they can't even remember how to spell her name....

You don't know if her name was spelled differently.

Many people who's primary language is Spanish spell their kids names the way they can pronounce it. I know a boy named 'Brayan' & pronounced Brian. In my opinion, it's lack of education and it's not fair to use that against them seeing as most immigrants come to the states at a young age knowing little or no English.

Maybe she's not her mother?

I'm 30 and my mom still can't spell or pronounce my name! My dad is Nigerian and she is American. I have a Nigerian first name in her defense. As a matter of fact, my dad was out of state when I was born, but he had her write it down before he left (in case he wasn't back in time). She still managed to copy it down wrong, and so my name is actually spelled incorrectly on my birth certificate. I have yet to change it, but need to.

LOL my boyfriends name is Jesse, his mom is from Mexico and she calls him 'Yesse' I think it's so cute. His dad is white though and I'm pretty sure he picked the name out. When I had my son she thanked me for naming him something that she can pronounce.

I live in a neighborhood with a lot of Hispanics and they always give their kids names they can't pronounce. For example, I was picking up my son from school and a lady was calling after her little girl. Her name is Scarlett and the lady was pronouncing it "Es-carr-le" So she was screaming out, "Escarrle! Escarrle!"

I just thought why'd you name her that if you can't even say it. Then again I'm probably just being a batch about it. I do feel very irritated today ?
