I have to go in for a glucose test Monday. I'm nervous because alot of people say its awful an it makes you feel dizzy an yucky. I just need some advice?☺
@hadleemae2018, that’s great that they’re letting you do it that way! You should be fine.
Also, I don’t like getting blood drawn either. I just make sure to turn my head and don’t look. I donate blood every year, and I do the same thing. I get queasy if I look.
@hadleemae2018, I don’t like getting my blood drawn either but it was fast and I was okay 👌, trust me you’ll be ok actually let me know how it goes but make sure they give you orange cuz it taste like soda I never had any other flavor before so I can’t tell you how those ones taste
@hadleemae2018, yes hun you’ll be fine I felt the same way I was freaking out like oh like almost every mom I know said it was horrible and it wasn’t don’t sike yourself out for nothing you’ll be ok 👌
@lulu85_18 I just called the doctors an he said I can eat the night before but I can not eat that morning I can only drink water. Also they said if I pick up a bottle to drink today I can put it in the fridge until Monday an drink it here an before the hours up go get my blood drawn . That's pretty nice so I dont have to wait in the office for an hour .
@hadleemae2018, ask your doctor what they recommend. Most say you don’t have to fast for your one-hour test, but I didn’t and failed mine. The 4-hr one definitely requires fasting and I passed that one. I wish I had fasted the first time to avoid taking that super long test. I don’t think the one-hr test is as accurate.
@lulu85_18 I'm going to call right now an make it for the first one in the morning. I love early appointments just getting it done first thing in the am is so worth it lol
@meg1204 okay eggs it is. Yeah my friend took her drink home I was wondering if that meant she just drinks it at home then goes in before the hour is up.
@hadleemae2018, they will give you directions. I think it’s something like not after 10 p.m. I can’t remember exactly. You are definitely fasting the morning of. I recommend making an appointment at the lab really early so you can be the first person. That’s what I did. Definitely helped.
@hadleemae2018, I never heard of not eating the night before.. I go on the 22nd my doctor told me eat an light breakfast (eggs) nothing with a lot of sugar or something that breaks down to sugar..
also never heard of taking it home cause you drink it wait an hour and they take your blood..
@lulu85_18 its the 1hr test. So I can't eat the night before the test?? Oh man I'm going to be starving lol some people get the drink an take it home ive noticed is that so they dont have to sit there for the 1 hour?
I've done did it twice.. I didn't have any issues with it.. it just taste like flat coke.. to me.
I think the hardest part is drinking it in within 5mins..
Just drink a ton of water the few days leading up to the test, but make sure you follow the directions and fast starting the night before. Make sure you’re hydrated. Other than that, just bring a book or magazine to keep you busy.
Is it just the 1-hr test? You should be fine. I took a 4-hr one and it felt like I was in there forever.
@hadleemae2018, no not at all! I was worried too because I had heard all the horror stories but for me it wasn’t anything like that so hopefully it won’t be for like that for you either!
It’s different for everyone honestly. The drink didn’t even bother me, and the only after effect I had was I got kinda sleepy after due to sugar crash.
